  1. Good evening from Estuary-Land. GDB reminded me that I have to fix the felt on my garden shed, a chunk was removed by the wind about six months ago. Fortunately the rain hasn't penetrated the roof which is T&G not chipboard but another job that needs doing before the winter. Off now to see what goodies Oxford Diecast have got lined up for us on Facebook. Best wishes all, be back later.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny at the moment but showers predicted for today. Deposit made to the builders so I will have to start clearing out the shed for him to work on, it will take a few weeks for the window to be made so its end of October/early November by the time its finished. Its amazing how much clutter can accumulate over the years including forgotten/missing tools. The charity shops will be getting a few donations over the coming weeks. Thats all for now, be back later.
  3. Heads up. BBC4 8:00 pm new series 'Railways, the making of a nation'.
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late this morning as I overslept, mostly due to my being up until 2:30 this morning, nothing serious only I forgot about the time. AndrewC if I was in your wifes position I'd take a sickie if thats possible without any repercussions. Just had a downpour here but the weather report says that its going to be a sunny afternoon. Happy birthdays to Mrs. Baz and Mrs. GDB, have a good day all, be back later.
  5. Even more desirable IMHO from Stratford would be an E4 or an F4 tank.
  6. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Smiffy, that must be a big wall that needs repointing. I am in the process of commissioning a builder to do the same and install a window, all for £500. The front of my house when built had an open porch terminating in a storage/coal shed that was of single brick construction. Subsequently the porch was enclosed forming an entrance hallway and putting the access to the shed indoors. Last winter I was plagued by a cold draft which after inspection turned out to be coming from the shed. When I examined the shed from the inside daylight could be seen through the brickwork! I decided then to have a window installed as the shed was like the black hole of Calcutta even in broad daylight. Now all I have to do is find a suitable place for all the useful items rubbish that is occupying the said shed. Once the wall and window have been done I am having the outside walls insulated. Once all that is done I should have just enough space for a small shelf layout, 6' X 1'.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Talk of hearing aids reminded me of when I was a member of a working mens club about 40 years ago. One elderly member of the group, Charlie, used the old fashioned type of hearing aid that hang around his neck with a volume control knob rather like the radios of the time. Problem was that when it came to his round Charlie's hearing aid would suddenly stop working. So the rest of us decided to play a trick on him. As we were talking we reduced our voices until we were miming. Charlie in turn started turning up the volume on his hearing aid and then we all said in a loud voice "Its your round Charlie". The air was blue for a while after that but he did get his round in.
  8. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Glad to hear that GDB survived and topped up on brownie points as well, just don't squander them. Kelly, I use a wooden walking stick and indeed many gloves can be very 'slippy', the best ones I have found are golfing gloves. There's still the Rainham tip further west where they can go and IIRC there are several tips on the other side of the estuary in Kent. Hereabouts crows and magpies are the commonest scavengers, the odd gull that ventures over does have a considerable chance of getting mobbed. The actual Pitsea tip is on a finger of land between Pitsea Creek and another inlet named Timbermans Creek.
  9. I shouldn't worry, you've got two cars.
  10. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late this morning, last night someone came up with a list of the next dozen or so items proposed in the Atlas 'World of Stobart' series and its generating quite a bit of froth on Facebook. GDB any accidental injury is not a laughing matter so please take care. Thats it for now folks, be back later.
  11. As most luxury cars in Japan were imported during the 30's and the majority of those were American (Packard, Cadillac etc.) Left hand drive cars were considered a status symbol in Japan. This persisted until recently, 50% of Rolls Royces exported to Japan in the 70's and 80's were LHD.
  12. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I found this site useful for dealing with awkward minnions. www.ceoemail.com A rocket has a greater impact the higher it comes from.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit dull but dry weather-wise, odd shower predicted, typical Autumn weather really. Thinking of doing a bit of gardening, when I've finished thinking about it I'll think about something else.
  14. I have a Hyundai i10 which is a badge engineered version. You obviously do not check your fuel consumption, you can lose as much as 10 MPG with the air con on.
  15. So the road was done after the pothole took up the entire road?
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit blustery here this morning but the rain seems to have stopped. LE I take it they are going to resurface the entire road which is much better than they do around here. The potholes are marked out for repair but it takes so long that the potholes have got so large that they've swallowed the markings, so they are marked out again and again the markings disappear. Belated birthday wishes to Gordon for yesterday, congratulations and commisserations where neccessary, be back later.
  17. Back in the 70's a mate of mine put a 3 litre V6 in a Corsair. Very quick until the half shafts went (every few hundred miles). Not surprising as they were basically Anglia bits.
  18. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I have to take BP drugs, Ramopril. When I renewed my prescription last week the pharmacist gave me a brand that I'd never seen before, a bit worrying as last time I was given a new 'brand' it gave me a bad case eczema (which is a common side effect of Ramopril). The new ones however seem far better, the slight eczema that I had has disappeared.
