  1. A limited customer base?
  2. My bank card is contactless so I went out and bought a RFID wallet. Naturally I keep my wallet in a zipped inside pocket, in front of that pocket is an external pocket that contains a stainless steel comb and is covered with the last few years enamelled remembrance poppies. With all that metalwork around I wonder if it was possible to read the card.
  3. Well if you must read the Daily Wail. Speaking of which yesterdays headline* was about how many millionairs now pay little if any tax and how few are chased by HMRS. The Daily Wail is owned by Lord Ashfield, a millionair who has avoided paying tax for years. *I only read the headline when purchasing my newspaper.
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright but cold outside this morning. A couple of minutes ago I heard a noise outside so I went to investigate. An old TV that even the charity shop wouldn't take despite it being in working order has been collected by the metal faries, though judging by the noise they made faries is not an apt description. I wanted to order a few extra's for the new trailer last night but Paypal was down for some reason but I was able to place my order this morning. I too remember the high inflation of the 80's, I had an endowment mortgage which was 'all the rage' at the time but as the signs of the crash in property values were becoming apparent I switched to a repayment mortgage just before they did so and I managed to escape the negative equity trap and like theQ I kept the payments up when the interest rates fell.
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Collected my new trailer this afternoon and very pleased with it. It did mean however that I had to evict my old trailer from the garage not helped by one of the tyres being partially flat and the flat rotating with the wheel. The only place I have to put it is in the front garden with the only security a padlock on the ball hitch. A neighbour had his trailer stolen a few years ago despite a padlock and a wheel clamp, all that was needed was for the scrotes to bodily lift the trailer into a Transit truck. That won't be so easy with my trailer as I've filled it with a quantity of old building blocks, if it does get stolen I will just have to tell the police to look for those with hernias.
  6. GDB didn't say which mains it would be attached too.
  7. I was going to ask about the tower on the station, I thought at first it was some sort of chimney until I saw the arrowslit windows. A pity some of the doors/windows appear to have been bricked up.
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I had a note through the door saying that our waste collection is going to change in the new year. More confusion as they seem to change it every couple of years. Several years ago we received green wheelie bins strictly for garden waste, a few years later food waste was also added to the things to go into said bins. The latest idea is for those bins to revert to garden waste only and a separate bin for food waste. At least we'll be getting a proper bin for general waste instead of the black plastic bags so beloved of the local fox population. Tram and trolleybus routes remained fixed for obvious reasons but once they were replaced by buses it was a different matter. London route 193 is a case in point. It started out as the 693 trolleybus route from Barking via Ilford and Seven Kings to Chadwell Heath and when the trolleybuses were withdrawn in 1959 it became the 193. It was first extended from Chadwell Heath to Romford and lost the Seven Kings to Barking section. Then it was extended into Hornchurch and cut back from Seven Kings and diverted at that end to Chase Cross. So it ended up serving roads that were never served by tram or trolleybus. Although there were proposals to extend the trams from Chadwell Heath through Romford to Gidea Park that never came to fruition. Incidently if your visiting the Romford show Saturday week the 193 passes the door.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Is rather foggy this morning, glad that I don't have to drive in it, burning off very slowly so probably lunchtime before it clears. Just had a phone call from Halfords to tell me that my trailer should be ready this afternoon which means I've got to find space for it in the garage, not as difficult as it sounds as its designed to be stored up ended taking up very little space. Belated birthday wishes to Dom, hope you had a good day. Thats it for now, be back later.
  10. But will it splatter them with paint?
  11. Even cars such as Reliants can suffer from chassis rot, fortunately they a simple to repair.
  12. I'm considering painting one in army colours, a slightly different shade of green.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Took advantage of the clocks going back to have an extra hour in bed but despite that its going to take my 'body clock' a week or two to adjust. Best of luck Chris with your mucking out, I was compelled to do my shed because of the builders coming in. I thought it would take a couple of days, two weeks later.....
  14. I recall talking to Mike Pett a while ago and we discussed the Wickham trolley and he said he might consider producing some St. Trinians figures to go with it. Also on the subject of liveries I do understand that the trolley used in the film was not a BR trolley but an army one of which the army had several.
  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Happy anniversaries to Ian and Sherry and Mr. & Mrs. W. Its getting a bit tidier around the shed now, I must now resist the temptation to fill it up again. Mystery is how can the contents of a two square metre shed fill a garage 2.5 X 5 metres? In fact the garage was half full and there's some space left. I now have enough scraps of wood and plywood to make some shelves together with a screw cabinet and some wall mounted storage bins to go in there when the work is complete. I'm still finding unopened packs of nails and screws, enough almost to start my own ironmongers.
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Happy birthday Jamie and many more of them. The last couple of evenings I've gone to bed a bit earlier than usual, that is before midnight. Strangely that has resulted in my oversleeping both yesterday and today by about 20 minutes, just as well the clocks go back tonight but don't get me started on that which I consider as unneccessary and irrelevant in todays society. I now have the builders estimates for the drylining and installing a stud wall and doorway, ouch! Its a little more than I expected so I'll have to extend the equity release to cover the cost so I'm dusting off plans for a new kitchen of which the stud wall was part. Thats it for now, be back later.
  17. Is that the one who's fossilised brain has just been found?
  18. Just had a phone call from Halfords, my trailer has just been delivered. Seeing as the order only went in at 17:17 yesterday thats quite impressive, well done Halfords. Now they only have to let me know when its assembled and I can collect it.
