  1. Good morning and a happy new year from Estuary-Land. That sounds a lot more cheery than I feel at the moment so back to bed for a couple more hours shut-eye. Be back later.
  2. Both substances come soaked in wadding.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I had a quick peek at the Clarice Cliff on E-bay and its not as expensive as I thought it would be, I was expecting an extra 0 on the prices quoted so Bob (81C) its not as bad as it looks, thats unless it is expected to be in pristine condition. Just had a chat with my brother, my neice injured her hip at work a few years ago and despite a couple of operations and other therapies its still not right so she is being retired on medical grounds. She will have to find some sort of part time job as the pension although good in the circumstances is not adequate enough as at 44 years old she hasn't got the length of service in.
  4. Morning Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Another year over and I intend to toast the new year in with a wee dram, the granite dice that I mentioned before Christmas are now residing in the freezer. I've been examining the wooden presentation box the whisky came in, no doubt machine made but well constructed out of some sort of solid hardwood that resembles oak but isn't. The ends, side and base are about 5mm thick with the base rebated to take the sides and ends. It measures 33 X 14 X 7.5 cm now all I have to do is find a use for it. Its not the right size but someone I know converted a similar box that contained a pint bottle of ale into a nesting box for birds. Today would have been my mum's 97th birthday so I will raise a glass to her as well as Jock and other departed friends.
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Having a good look at yesterday's swap meet purchases. One was the new caravan model from Oxford, examination with a magnifying glass revealed a mass of interior detail that is for the most part hidden, well done Oxford. Whilst I was out the tea I ordered on Christmas Eve arrived, the postie left it in a safe place. When I opened the box I realised that I'd ordered the wrong size, I've now got enough tea for the next couple of months, a 750 gramme catering size. (A normal packet of loose tea is 150 gramme.) Tony, I have some turned brass whistles somewhere so if I can find them you're quite welcome to one for your Peckett, going by whats been said on the Peckett thread your not the only one to have this problem.
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I will be venturing out later for a few essentials later but its a good day to stay indoors. It looks as if GDB must have, or did have an excess of brownie points the way he has thrown them away today, perhaps he has bumped his head once to often. So long for now, be back later.
  7. The advice given by many successful authors is use your own life experiences.
  8. Then the route suggested by Jamie is better IMHO, more oppertunities for a quick stop/break if needed.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A real ER this morning as I'm off to a swap meet shortly. Weather as reported by Tony so a bit of scraping will be needed on the car, had to scrape the ice off at 7 last night before going out to the club. Thats it for now, be back later.
  10. Thats the one, I'm still not certain if its photoshopped or an actual item. Clever idea whatever it is.
  11. And will we be allowed to drive, sharing the road with cars that drive themselves?
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Still foggy here at quarter past ten but the sun still trying desperatley to burn through. Interesting pic on a Facebook group, someones made a candlelabra out of four (garden) fork handles, ideal gift for a Two Ronnies fan. Unfortunately due to privacy settings I can't save it to my own timeline. Glad to hear from GDB and that he still has a full set of digits but I do wish he wouldn't worry us by telling us he's going to be sharpening knives and then disappearing for a few days. And talking of thermometres, when I had my fall a few weeks ago the thermometre was inserted in my ear. Apparently its one of the few places a thermometre can be inserted that gives an accurate reading of core temperature, I refrained from asking what other orifices are suitable. Bye for now, be back later.
  13. I see that Smiffy has posted and GDB has 'liked' one of my posts so they're still with us.
  14. If a modern car developes a serious fault it invariably ends up in a scrapyard. I've known cars only four years old be scrapped because of a fault.
  15. Hate to say this but when I clicked on the 'view similar items' it directed me to one at £9.99 including free postage.
  16. Apparently the motors (usually coreless) are ideal for powering model locomotives.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Sun shining bright this morning but cold and frosty, not a lot to do except get the papers and read them and do the crosswords and soduko. Be back later.
  18. Sorry to hear your sad news Gordon.
