  1. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Happy birthday Andy and many more of them. Weather as reported by GDB and I'll be doing a bit of DIY myself today, making the shelves for the shed. I'll have to set the workmate up on the patio as the utility room is crammed with the contents of said shed, fingers crossed that there is enough space in the shed for it all. Bye for now, be back later.
  2. The Chattanooga one is very similar, only it doesn't have the statues or carpeted platforms. Its still a going concern with the station concourse used as a restaurant.
  3. There is/was a hotel in Chattanooga based in the old station where the bedrooms are in old 1930's sleeping cars. Needless to say it was called the Chattanooga-choo-choo.
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Managed to spot a couple of Persiads last night, helped by the fact that on a Sunday Essex CC switch the streetlights off at midnight instead of the usual 1 am. As it was the moon didn't help being about 5/8ths full, but that was in the south so by looking north I was able to spot a couple as I said. Back in the 60's living in Essex we were spoilt for choice over Pirate radio stations with Radios Caroline, Essex and London plus a couple of others (Kent and Suffolk?). Weather should stay dry on this side of the UK today so no excuses for getting on with a few jobs (sigh!). Subbuteo did make a cricket version, and a rugby version too. They claimed that they were 1/76 scale but some models varied between 1/72 and about 1/80. The accessory figures could be useful on a 00 scale layout, the cricket ones even included groundsmen with a roller and old men sitting in deckchairs. (For Morecombe & Wise fans?)
  5. Morning Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Oo-er this is the second morning in a row that I'm late on parade. If I keep soaking in the bath like I have done I'm going to end up all wrinkly like a prune. Glad to hear that Steve is getting better Bob and I hope he continues to improve. Thats where the Air Ferry used to operate from, hardly economic even then with only five cars and a dozen passengers per aircraft. They moved to Southend before they closed.
  6. Fifty years ago some tour operators used to advertise 'Flights from London' and then used to bus their passengers to Southend. Some of them were understandably a bit miffed, especially one passenger who had to make the journey into London, from Hockley.
  7. Have you tried the Indians?
  8. Morning Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. A bit of a late riser this morning, well not that late as I had a good long soak in the bath. Had a quick look-in on Facebook, Debs has reported that John is improving but still sealed up in a sterile room, he must be bored to tears. Things for boiling water are called kettles, some are painted green and some are made entirely of brass but a brass chimney cap? Hat, coat GONE..........................
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Purchased a new jig-saw so I expect the old one to magically re-appear now. Its only a cheapo Black and Decker one from Tesco's, £19 but it should do what I want. A lot of stuff has migrated back into the shed so it will have to migrate out again before I can carry on with installing the shelving. The neighbour has removed his van but the recent wet weather means that tomorrow morning I will have to reduce the vegetation overhanging the side access.
  10. What worries me is how can you tell if its just make-up.
  11. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Slept like a log last night, strangely the bedclothes were all awry this morning, the duvet was laying across the bed at right angles. If I have a night when I can't sleep the bedclothes are reasonably tidy in the morning. A friend of mine who is a motor mechanic will only buy petrol or diesel from a supermarket in a dire emergency. While we're on the subject of filling stations, there is a Facebook group called 'The golden years of the British petrol station' which many here should find interesting, several have said that there are many that should modelled on that site. Not a lot else to report, bright sunshine this morning, cloud and rain not due until this evening.
  12. I recall one being roasted for dinner in the film 'Walkabout', mind you thats one film where I wasn't paying much attention to the wildlife.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late on parade this morning, was reading a crime thriller and by the time I'd got to the end it was 3 am. Still cloudy and a bit chilly, the central heating was running for much of the night. Will have to visit one of the DIY emporiums today for a new jigsaw, having moved a lot of stuff back and forth I can't find the one that I have. Its coming up to 30 years old and as it hasn't been used for some time might not work anyway. Congratulations and commiserations where neccessary, be back later.
  14. Was it your housemate or the possum doing the screaming?
