  1. Some twenty years or more ago a street curcuit was laid out here in Basildon for demonstration purposes only. It was even suggested that it could become a venue for the British GP but the whole idea was ruled out on cost grounds. Even for the Sunday on which the event was held the disruption was horrendous so just as well. I remember it well as our model railway exhibition which was then held in the town centre was effectively killed off on the Sunday.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The rain had stopped when I got home from the club last night. It is my normal habit to put the rubbish bags out when I get home as normal bin day is Thursday but as Tony said they run a day late when a bank holiday happens along so they'll be out last thing tonight. As Andrew said the whole Diana thing is way OTT and quite frankly I'm fed up to the back teeth with it. What makes it even worse is they have to revive the conspiracy theories, it was a tragic accident, nothing else so live with it.
  3. Its not a Matador, its an 0854 though it is derived from the Matador.
  4. Try running after a trolleybus when its leaving a stop. (When we had trolleybuses).
  5. More likely elfin safe tea.
  6. Before I retired I used to give Christmas presents to my colleagues young children, at the time that was two boys 5 and 6 years old and a girl of 12. Selecting a present for the boys was easy but I found it difficult to select one for the girl. Then I happened upon a science kit with the prisms and a few other light experiments which I gave to her. As it turned out her favourite school subject was science and the present was much appreciated.
  7. They are still available but no longer include the items for making loud bangs or nasty smells. Nowadays they contain such things as prisms for making pretty colours.
  8. Thanks, I've now got that as an earworm.
  9. They later had some special bodied Dennis dust cart chassis.
  10. Bargoed Hill, the first buses built for use on that route were on Leyland Bull heavy goods chassis. The AEC's which replaced them were Regent V double deck bus chassis fitted with single deck bodies.
  11. Its a Standard 9 with the production body.
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Glad to hear that you escaped serious injury Neil with your accident. I once had a car with an enormous tow hitch, the reason for its size was it was a combination ball and pin hitch. And someone managed to run into it fortunately without damage to my car. I cant say the same for his though, he decided to reverse his car off of mine, this was accompanied by a cloud of steam where his radiator had been punctured.
  13. Its when the Elderberry trees are on someone else's property that it gets annoying.
  14. The GER had plenty of good locomotives, the N7, J15, J20 and B12, the N7 in particular. Gresley knew a good locomotive when he saw one that is why he continued building N7's and B12's.
  15. But don't put your washing out while they're eating the elderberries.
  16. Using a lathe while naked is not recommended.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Sat up reading a crime thriller (again?) last night hence late on parade this morning. Sun is peeping through the haze so it shouldn't be a bad day today. Not much else to report so bye and be back later.
  18. Nipped down to Tesco's lunchtime for my bread and papers. Not all that busy so there was plenty of parking spaces but when I came out I found that some cockwomble had parked next to me, at an angle, partly into the bay I was in and despite there being two empty bays on the other side of him. I just managed to open my car door enough to get in.
  19. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late on parade this morning, one hour and twenty minutes to be precise. This was the time it took to upload updates to W10. Yesterday evening a notice popped up saying there was some updates due and on checking I noted that you could set the time for the updates to run. So I set it for 1 am this morning, or so I thought. I switched on at just before 9 o'clock this morning and was just checking my e-mails when at 9 precisely the screen went blue and the uploads started! That was 8 hours after the time that I had requested, there was no time zone mentioned when I set the time for the update so I assumed it was BST. I have been up since about six this morning and when I woke up it was very misty/foggy, autumn is just around the corner.
  20. Congratulations Dom and Elise and Goodnight all.
  21. The RCL's certainly had a good turn of speed. The last 'turn' on the 721 finished at the Robin Hood in Brentwood just after midnight and the bus then returned empty to the garage in Romford (London Road RE). Coming out of Brentwood there is Brook Street Hill, dropping away about 1 in 12 and dead straight. I was courting a young lady from Brentwood at the time and on several occassions I followed the bus into Romford in my car and I couldn't keep up with it.
