  1. Truth can be stranger than fiction. I have just received the October edition of Railway Bylines. On page 526 is a locomotive that I couldn't imagine in my wildest dreams. Its an 0-6-0F with the cab mounted about ten feet above the running plate making it about twenty feet high. It was built to operate in the NCB coking plant at Glasshoughton.
  2. That reminds me of this incident. http://www.boakandbailey.com/2015/08/the-strange-death-of-ronny-fincham/
  3. Probably would have used a 37 or Baby Deltic cab/nose.
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Put the new baseboard together with a dry run, everything fits as it should but its back in its box now until I can create more room to work on it. But they still have to put the ball in their opponents goal. Their arch rivals Ipswich are still knocking on the promotion door even with a game in hand.
  5. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit brighter this morning if a bit close. Will make a start on the flat pack baseboard today, first job will be clearing a space. You can't go far wrong with a Kia/Hyundai, you might even find one with plenty of warranty left, initially 7 and 5 years respectively. . We just have to live with the Glis Glis in the roof. They're too quick for me with an air rifle. Regards to all. Jamie Glis Glis otherwise known as the edible doormouse.
  6. My last two cars have been bought brand new, the first because I was tempted by the trade in offer on what can only be described as an old banger. I had been intending to keep it for more than the two years that I had it but I decided to replace it when I retired. The second car is now more than 9 years old but since I retired has done far less mileage than the car I had for two years.
  7. It may be one of those electric cars, maybe he was hoping to get a free recharge from the third rail.
  8. Or failing that use the wire from the Faller road system.
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. My new 'flat-pack' baseboard arrived this morning, I've opened up the packaging to do an inspection and everything looks OK so I'll be doing a dry construction tomorrow. I intent to make a few modifications for operational reasons as it at present builds into an enclosed box with access only from the front and above. My intention is to operate it from the side and use cassets instead of a fiddle yard. EDIT Good luck Andy.
  10. According to the report 'The car was straddling the live wire.' God give me strength.
  11. I should imagine as soon as it was reported to Paypal/the credit card company his E-bay account would be closed.
  12. Wasn't there an airfield in Northern Ireland where trains actually crossed the runway?
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Thoughts and commiserations to Smiffy. Dull, damp and overcast here this morning, at least the damp isn't descending from the sky. Just a thought on the gold smugglers, how did they get past the airport metal detectors? Thats it for now, be back later.
  14. Here's a link http://www.oxforddiecast.co.uk/collections/by-scale/1-76?page=1 If you want to see the offerings in other scales just change the 76 in the link to 43 or 148.
  15. Afternoon from Estuary-Land. Haven't spent as many modelling tokens as I expected to, only purchased a couple of Oxford Diecast cars, there was nothing else that took my fancy. Its neither muddy nor hollow.
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Just a quick hello this morning as I'm off out shortly to dispose of a few modelling tokens.
  17. I think he's scared that Australia will retaliate by sending over a selection of wildlife.
  18. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Neil, Kia (and Hyundai) have consistently come top of the tables with regard to reliability. My i10 is now over 9 years old and the only items that have needed replacement are the tyres and battery. The tyres because they were showing signs of 'feathering' on the corners of the tread. The battery was still functioning but was getting a bit tired, the difference was clearly noticable after the new one was fitted.
  19. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit dank and damp here this morning but signs of brightness are showing through. Best of luck Andy with the job application. Just on the breakfast show this morning, something that we've been talking about recently there is a 'Festival of thrift' on this weekend, where else but Yorkshire (Redcar).
  20. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Nice and sunny here this morning but definitely an autumn chill in the air first thing. It appears the slug must have been alone as theres no evidence of any others. Thats it for now, be back later.
