  1. Yes of course, there is an almost continuous supply.
  2. I have just discovered a number of brass whistles in my stash. Some are spoken for and will be distributed this weekend. There should be a few left over, PM me Sunday.
  3. So those PPI claims are very lucrative.
  4. Evening all from Estuary-Land. As you may recall I have found a couple of slugs in the house in the last few weeks. Earlier this evening just as I was readying myself to go to the model railway club I espied what I thought was another slug lurking under the furniture. I grabbed a piece of kitchen towel to pick it up with but I needn't have bothered, it turned out to be an old elastic band.
  5. There are several areas which would be of interest. The approaches to Fenchurch Street, the old Bishopsgate goods depot and quite a few others. Fortunately many of the old railway structures are now listed but many are not.
  6. Looking at the still picture there is an entry ramp for a car park over the shops. The car park is almost certainly part of the shopping complex and is at a level where a walkway could be installed above the tracks. Most such car parks have several points of access with lifts and as in my local shopping centre the pedestrian areas can be separated by barriers.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A wet and dull morning this morning but hopefully it will brighten up later. Just got a tap on the door, an E-bay purchase from the US. Delivered by Yodel, the young lady delivering the parcel must have been in a real hurry as when I'd signed for it she was walking away and I still had the stylus in my hand. Sorry to hear that the new job isn't going as you expected Andy, hopefully this is just a blip and not a sign of things to come. Best wishes to Debs and John as well, be back later.
  8. I can easily see why Network Rail want to shut this crossing. The road appears to have been pedestrianised.
  9. I see that its estimated to have cost him AUS$10,000* for the truck and equipment. Perhaps the police will confiscate it and use it themselves. *Not sure how much in £ Sterling.
  10. You could have a 'virtual' tour by following some of the excellent publications from Peter Kay and a copy of 'Fenchurch Street to Barking' from the Middleton Press is also highly recommended. However if such a walk is created I would like to participate.
  11. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Plenty of pics of yesterdays strange coloured skies on the box this morning one of which was reminicent of a Turner painting. Not much else to report, be back later.
  12. Indeed, I started my working days in 1964 in Mitre Square. At that time there was even a few of the goods depots operating.
  13. I remember as a child that putting ones fingers across any two of the rails of live Trix Twin track would result in blisters where you came in contact with the track.
  14. It was Leman Street goods depot. It was opened in 1877 by the LT&SR but was little used after being bombed during the Blitz. In 1889 a womans torso was discovered in one of the arches where the access lines left the main line, (the Pinchin Street torso). This was at one time thought to have been a Jack the Ripper victim but she was never identified.
  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I thought I heard rain last night but as when I looked out everything appeared dry. Today though when I went out to the car the deposits of Sahara dust on the windscreen confirmed that it had indeed rained. TOO MUCH INFORMATION!
  16. A worker in the Romford brewery did actually drown in a vat of beer, about 1982 IIRC. The vat contained waste beer that was returned to the brewery (so that they could reclaim duty paid on the beer).
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. All quiet here on the weather front and even the sun is shining. I too have been on Facebook this morning but gave up because of the adverts most if not all are totally irrelevent but one I did like was for toilet paper with a pouting Donald Trump on every sheet, don't go looking for it though, its sold out. Thats it for now, be back later.
  18. Thoughts are with Debs and John, goodnight all.
  19. Afternoon from Estuary-Land. Seeing the MF forecast reminded me of what might have happened. There was a deep low pressure to the north of Ireland/west of Scotland and another low pressure just off the Bristol Channel. IIRC these two low pressure systems joined forces and created the storm. Even today weather forecasting is not an exact science.
  20. With modern batteries such as those used in hybrid and electric cars an external power source will not be neccessary. Something to be considered for other preserved electric stock.
  21. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Warm and windy describes the weather here, at least its dry. Make the most of it as the seaweed twirlers are saying its not going to last, will have to check out the 5 day forecasts today. (1 o'clock and with Countryfile). Not a lot else to report, be back later.
