  1. Afternoon from Estuary-Land. Things seem to have quietened down on the Janus thread especially after a mod had rapped a few knuckles but post 500 is worth a look if you want a chuckle. However some of the wrangling seems to have transfered itself to the Oxford 6 wheel Toad thread.
  2. But none in 00 scale. There is the Cararama offering in 1/72 and 1/80 scale but the 1/72 scale model is rather large and the 1/80 scale model is hard to find but both models can be easily re-cabbed.
  3. There is also a Daimler Dart in there. Yes, it is a Super Minx convertible, the saloons readily rusted so the convertibles had no chance. I saw one still in use in Malta a few years ago where the climate is a lot kinder.
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Not much of a whisky drinker myself prefering beer and cider, not that I drink a lot anyway. I mentioned about this time last year that Tesco's had a presentation box with a couple of minature whiskys, a whisky glass and four small granite cubes. I managed to get one at a reduced price on Boxing Day. The wooden presentation box will become the basis of a control panel and the granite cubes might be incorporated into the model railway scenery, they make ideal 00 scale bollards. I sometimes have difficulty remembering the registration of my current car, despite having owned it from new, for more than 9 years in fact. When automatic tolls came in for the Dartford crossing when I set it up I managed to transpose two of the letters of my registration, I only found out when I got a demand for payment. Luckily when I phoned them I was able to sort it out and they even waived the late payment fee. Just as well the vehicle who's registration I had put on apparently had never ventured over the crossing.
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. A list of the cars I have owned/driven would take too long and I'm not sure if I can remember them all. One I'd like to forget I can't, a Pergeot 806, a right heap of rubbish. The central locking refused to unlock half the doors, fortunately the drivers door and the tailgate could be opened with the key. The gear change, which was on the dashboard fell apart, I was still able to change gear as the gate was visible under the remains of the rubber boot. It moved however (the gate) every time you changed gear. I did get rid of it, a prospective buyer came round and went to shut the tailgate pulled the lining out, I think he agreed to buy it out of embarrassment. One of the best cars I have owned was a Nissan Praire. We were invited to a model railway exhibition in France. It took three of us and our luggage, two layouts plus some displays without missing a beat, and we still found room for some 'duty frees'. Regretably it was written off a few years later when a lorry rear ended it and pushed it off the road. Only good thing was that with the last MOT only a couple of weeks before there was a longish list of advisories that would have been uneconomic to repair and I received the full 'book value' from the insurance.
  6. Not a problem, click on Multiquote, go to the thread you want to post it on and the 'Reply to quoted posts' should come up. Sometimes it doesn't appear though but it seems to work on others. EDIT it worked.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. My first car was a 100E Popular, I can even remember the registration, 760 BUC. I traded it in for a newer car after a couple of years. Two years after I'd traded it in I had a letter from a London borough asking to whom I'd sold it, apparently it had been abandoned. I passed on to them the name of the trader who took it in part exchange and heard no more. I've managed to keep a clean driving licence for nigh on 50 years, not even a parking ticket. In fact its in next January, I can't remember the exact date but about the 17th or 18th.
  8. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Popped down to town today to do a bit of shopping, it was heaving. I was surprised to see that one of the escalators has been removed leaving no evidence. It must have occured during the last month since my last visit. My brother just phoned about the family C********s arrangements, typical of my brother taking a suggestion as a done deal. Fortunately I can fit in with the suggested arrangements as it involves myself being chauffered around on C*******s day.
  9. I noticed that this morning. How long before the thread is locked? Sigh.
  10. Apparently there is a textured wallpaper available that is ideal for stone setts in 00 scale.
  11. Morning all from a sunny but chilly Estuary-Land. Glad that I didn't have to rise early and go out. Looked out this morning to a heavy frost that had followed a shower of rain leaving the roads very icy indeed. I try to avoid the overflow car park at Southend as its unsurfaced and some distance from the entrance. I have discovered a 'secret' parking space for about three or four cars very close to the main entrance. Its a disused loading bay hidden by shrubery, as long as you don't obstruct the fire access alongside I've been told its OK to park there.
  12. I used charcole grey mounting board for a road surface. As it comes it is too new and even so I weathered it using very dilute acrylics, in fact the water used for cleaning brushes. This had the effect of lifting the colour of the mounting board as well as lightening and flatting the colour. The only thing is to apply the weathering along the length of the road and not across.
  13. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Visited the Southend show today, quite enjoyed myself even if its a bit tiring on the legs. The lad enjoyed himself, you could find him either at the Lego trains or the radio controlled trucks which included radio controlled excavators and loaders which were fascinating to boys of all ages including yours truly. I put my suggestion to my friend and thats now agreed too. I didn't spend a lot of modelling tokens, the principle purchase was another 4Ground laser cut building kit, this one being of a pub/hotel.
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Off to the Southend show shortly, collecting my surrogate grandson and his dad on the way. His dad is getting insistent on making some form of payment so I'm going to put a solution to him. Entry to an exhibition can be expensive even with only one child but some exhibitions accompanied children are allowed in free so when we visit such exhibitions he pays my entry, I think that will be acceptable.
  15. There were 30 models in the set. Many people didn't get the full set, I had one missing but I was able to find one at a reasonable price. It should be listed on your account what has been sent to you, failing that there is a number on the boxes and the certificates for each model.
  16. Facinating picture, must be mid 50's at least going by some of the cars. But still an old luton van in use dating from the early 30's. (Morris-Commercial?)
