  1. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Had a wintery shower just after lunch, as predicted by Arthur Itis. Arthurs predictions are far more accurate than the seaweed wranglers, the wet weather as usual arrived 6 hours to the minute after his warning. I can confidently confirm that hereabouts will not be getting any more wet stuff for the next six hours.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny here this morning with just the odd cloud but the forecast is for north easterly winds so its going to be cold. Nice to hear some better news about Debs and I hope that the next news is even better.
  3. That also occured on other systems IIRC. Nottingham was one such system where the 'skate' was a bunch of chains dragged behind the bus.
  4. As stated there is no compulsory testing. Mine came about because I had blood in my urine and passing it was very painful. It turned out to be an unrelated condition (a kidney stone passing through the system) but even then I had to request the PSA test. I said that the kidney stone was an unrelated condition but I have been led to understand that kidney and bladder stones can indicate prostate problems. Prostate problems aren't necessarily cancerous but does anyone know if they can develope into cancer?
  5. I read somewhere that where bow collectors were standard the overhead wire at terminals was slack so that the bow collectors would be able to swing over when the car reversed. Glasgow used bow collectors and when trolleybuses were introduced the routes chosen were those with the fewest crossings of the tram system. As an aside there were few places where trams and trolleybuses shared the same overhead but one was in South East London. In some places where trolleybus overhead had been installed the trams still ran on the conduit system the trams were forbidden from using the trolleybus overhead except in an emergency. This was because the negative return was through a second contact rail in the conduit instead of through the track.
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed for Debs. With all this talk of prostate cancer I was wondering how often it is advisable to have a PSA test? I had one about 18 months ago, all clear fortunately. I know several people who have the condition not including my former next door neighbour who had his prostate removed as both his father and grandfather died of the disease.
  7. Thoughts are with Debs, goodnight all.
  8. I have had the same request. I can't remember what the original price was but £103:94 seems pretty reasonable.
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. This morning I sat down to do the sudoku in yesterdays paper. Then there was a knock on the door, it was the milkman calling for this months payment. When I returned to carry on doing the sudoku I couldn't find the pen I was using anywhere so I had to get a fresh pen out. About half an hour later I went to switch the TV on and there was the original pen sitting by the remote. Later this afternoon I needed a pen again and again the pen had disappeared. So I resorted to the replacement again but it soon turned up having fallen to the floor and under a shoe. I started using it again then for the ink to run out.
  10. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Slightly warmer today according to the seaweed wranglers but still bl@@dy cold. Fingers and anything else that can be crossed for Debs.
  11. Peugeot central locking, tell me about it.
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The bin lorry dawn chorus has been and gone including the fortnightly bottle and glass wagon that didn't sound as busy as usual. A re-check of the rail trip brochure revealed another trip starting locally and with more time at the ultimate destination so I'll be putting it to the lads at the club, and its on a Saturday as well. Debs seems to be on a bit of a roller coaster but fingers, toes and anything else I can think of is crossed on her behalf. Bye for now, be back later.
  13. Thoughts are with Debs, goodnight all.
  14. That'll teach him not to go through a red light.
  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Was club night tonight and some members were trying to revive the Thomas the Tank layout that we used to have at our show until a couple of years ago. It consists of two ovals of track each with its own controller. The track, which was second hand Peco Streamline required replacing at the same time it was decided to ease the radius of the inner oval. The idea was to replace the track with Setrack which would be more durable but then a problem arose. An oval of first radius Setrack was assembled and placed on the layout to test the fit only for it to be more or less the same size as the outer oval. The layout board isn't wide enough to take a larger oval so its back to the drawing board.
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit grey and overcast this morning but forecast to brighten up later. I had my hair cut last week so I'm now noticing the chill wind, now what did I do with that cap? Not much else to report, be back later.
  17. Number 10 Downing Street was jerry built. During the 1970's it had to be completely rebuilt.
  18. Brands Hatch is a lot more accessable than it once was. I can remember going to Brands for an event when the only route available was either via the Woolwich ferry or Blackwall tunnel.
  19. An automatic ban, though only 12 months acted as a deterent to drink driving so the same should apply to mobile phone users. As for causing a death while driving, there should be an automatic life ban, no ifs or buts you do not get behind the wheel again.
  20. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Before it turns tomorrow happy birthday Laurence. I've been trying to sort out a steam trip for my fellow club members which on the face of it looks quite simple, find out who wants to go, collect the monies and book the required number of seats. First problem, the train leaves from London Victoria so I will have to arrange collection and transport for between 10 and 20 persons so a minibus seems the most suitable option. Second problem, the trip is in August so having checked around some of the minibus/coach companies I find to be sure of getting a vehicle I will have to book it at least three months in advance. I am having second thoughts now on this, perhaps for 2019.
