  1. Tony and Aditi. I can add nothing to what has been said already. Thoughts are with both of you.
  2. Most cars with two doors had tilting seats that were unsecured before about 1970.
  3. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Thinking of Tony and Aditi today.
  4. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I'm expecting my licence in the next few months just before I reach the grand (not so) old age of 70. Just as well really as my old licence looks as if its been eaten by moths including the plastic cover. I too remember the little red book that was issued when I first passed my test over 50 years ago.
  5. I know they're expensive but why not buy an Eco-drive watch? I've had one now for 15 years and the only thing I've had to do is to change it from GMT to BST and back again, and you don't even have to do that on the latest ones.
  6. I thought that was how most Americans drove their cars.
  7. Before I retired I used to get my cars MoT'd in my employers workshop. By doing MoT's for other than their own fleet it made the test station viable. The advantage was of course that as they did not do repairs you knew that any repairs neccessary were just that. Another bonus was that when I came to collect my car I would find such things as the handbrake adjusted and other minor jobs done. Regretably the workshop has been replaced by a block of flats.
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I hope things go as well as can be expected for Tony and Aditi and best wishes to Debs and any other ailing ER's. Not a lot to report from here, sun is putting in an appearance but it sounds a bit windy outside. Thats it for now, be back later.
  9. I purchased a plastic kit of a German V2 rocket many years (30?) ago, IIRC from Beatties. The main attraction was that the kit was to 1/76 scale and contained several vehicles that could be used on a layout plus some other bits I put to good use. I saw another example of the kit, this time unmade at a swapmeet for £450! about 90 times what I paid for the kit.
  10. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Stopped raining here this afternoon but it keeps threatening to return and Arfur Itis is informing me that it will return about 3 tomorrow morning. The seaweed wranglers inform us that this Saturday the temperature will hit a heady 18 C. so I'm contemplating a trip to Mangapps with the lad and his dad. I might even manage to fit in a visit to the restored WW1 airfield at Stowe Maries, last time I visited there the restoration had only just started.
  11. Then there's the 'Dead donkey' joke that shows the Irish as clever and canny.
  12. It was quite an elderly model. German MoT failures are often shipped east to Poland where the roadworthieness test is less stringent were when they fail that test they go further east. They leave Germany by the trainload, a very lucrative business for DR.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Overslept this morning, not much only about twenty minutes or so. I put it down to my body clock still being on GMT. My intended shopping trip to Southend has been cancelled due to the rain anyway so theres no problem. I got a reply to the Facebook message I sent to Debs yesterday, she was well pleased with what I sent in the message as I expected. Tony, glad to hear that the Irish authorities are easing the burden on what is a very difficult time. Belated birthday greetings for Mrs. Rick and generic greetings for any others celebrating an event.
  14. Mind you that will be the retail value, the whole lot will have been produced in some far eastern sweatshop for about 20 pence.
  15. This is my pet hate, even more so when instead of making the turn when its safe to do so they wave someone out of the turning.
  16. Evening all from Estuary-Land. All these egg jokes have scrambled my brain. Went down to the bus museum this afternoon with my surrogate grandson and his dad. I must be getting old as although the lad had never seen a side gangway low height double decker before and was quite intrigued by it neither had his dad. I did go down there to find out if they are running their model railway exhibition about May as usual only to find out that it had been cancelled due to the organiser having a new job and not having the time. I hope things go well as they can do in the circumstances for Tony and Aditi and best wishes to Debs.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. On my shopping expedition yesterday I picked up what I thought was a standard pack of hot cross buns, alas they turned out to be salted caramel with choc chip, yeuck! At least the birds seem to like them. Off out this afternoon to take the lad and his dad to the Canvey bus museum, hopefully the model railway they have there will be operating. Thoughts are with Tony and Aditi and Debs of course and any other ailing ER's. Be back later.
  18. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Ventured out to Tesco's at Pitsea this lunchtime, it seems that to pre-emt the usual bunfights over the reduced items they had started reducing the prices early so I was able to pick up a couple of bargains. Only a few but some people had trolleys full of stuff just because it was cheap, I wonder how much of it gets wasted. My mum never abreviated my name and was annoyed when other people did so but I knew I was in trouble when she called out "PHILLIPP". I take pains to point out that my name is spelt with two L's instead of the usual one, especially those who complain that I haven't answered their e-mails when they have used only the one L despite my writing it down. I do believe we still have more Ians than Bobs.
  19. There is what looks like it could be a British Railways totem front centre of roof. It is also now apparent that it is a Leyland with a pre 1935 radiator, probably a TS5 or earlier, unfortunately the registration just below the windscreen is not readable. The body which may possibly be later than the chassis looks as if it might be built by Roe as it appears to have the raised waistrail which was a distinctive feature of that bodybuilder.
  20. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I hope Debs can access her Facebook, I found a clip thats right up her street, a litter of collie pups playing. It was a bit sunny earlier on but now clouding over as per forecast. Not much else to report, be back later.
