  1. Austin did offer an estate based on the later '53-'55 A40 van (column gearchange and pressed steel grill).
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit breezy here this morning with the sun popping its head in and out of the clouds. I spotted an ad for an exhibition at Sudbury this coming Sunday in this months Model Rail. I looked for more detail in the listings but there was no mention but with 18 layouts and 14 traders it looks quite reasonable at £4 per head (kids free). Muggatee is waiting so be back later.
  3. Has it always slipped or has it started slipping recently.
  4. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Living not far from the local A&E hospital I often hear the local air ambulance flying in to the hospital. They were very busy about five yesterday afternoon. The reason was this, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-43775826 it actually made the national news today. I thought the grass area where the helicopters 'parked' looked familiar, it is where the larger vehicles are parked for the Canvey Island Bus Museum rally in October. One of our MRC members is a retired teacher who spent his entire career teaching on Canvey and he probably knows some of the victims.
  5. You are leaving yourself open there. Seriously though I recall that there was a car (not sure of make or model) which had a similar arrangement where a special pump/tool was required to put oil into the gearbox.
  6. The prototype rod drive ones have larger wheels. IIRC 3' 3" as opposed to 3'.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Happy birthday Debs, I hope the next ones are many and better. A bit foggy first thing this morning, hopefully it will clear soon as I'm off to Rayleigh soon.
  8. Are you pouring it into the right hole?
  9. I am thinking about a freelance underground bomb store. I intend to build the layout in an A3 boxfile using Z gauge track (6.5mm) and a scale of 1/72 to represent 18" gauge.
  10. That will be an American pint which is smaller than an Imperial pint.
  11. Evening from Estuary-Land. Watching Channel 4 at the moment, Coastal Railways with Julie Waters, very interesting. Pedant mode on >> 2.7 millimetres to be correct << pedant mode off.
  12. I think that the 'take-up' of the trial issue must have been less than Hatchett had hoped for. After all we don't need as many LMS brake vans as we do Mk.1 coaches.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Great to hear from Debs but watch out for the awl. I only have a paper licence and my passport has expired and I haven't renewed it. I will seek advice on Monday when I go to the post office to get the additional form to retain the minibus etc. entitlement. Incidentally if you do want to retain it you cannot renew on-line. The problem is that I had a letter recently from the pensions office (re. pension increase) that is one of the documents that is accepted but I now can't find it. The only alternative is to get someone who knows me to countersign the photograph I send, and they have to hold a photo licence. Time now for a muggatee and to get out and enjoy the sunshine.
  14. On the horse or in the car? Goodnight all.
  15. The ID required for the licence renewal seems a bit strange. I haven't got any photo ID except for my bus pass, but this apparently is not acceptable but a letter from the department of pensions is?
  16. Evening all from Estuary-Land. My driving licence renewal landed on the mat this morning. I didn't realise that you could still retain the minibus and 7:5 tonne part of the licence provided you got a form signed by your doctor or optician. Question is is it worth it? Mick, sorry to hear of that young mans suicide, when that black dog bites he bites very hard. I know of two suicides among the families of friends one of whome I was acquainted with, I never thought he would do such a thing. We have foxes locally despite being very suburban but the marshlands are less than a couple of miles away and there is plenty of cover for them, they were certainly kicking up a racket last night.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I PM'd CB with my birthday greetings for Debs but I will also put them on her Facebook page in case she can access them there. Commiserations to all ER's who are suffering, sorry about not naming anyone as I'm certain to leave one or two out if I did. A bit grey weather wise but its dry (for the moment). Thats it for now, be back later.
  18. Wickham trolley, most of which had a JAP V-twin.
  19. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The usual bin lorry dawn chorus was enlivened by the bottle and glass one squeaking like a rusty door hinge. Just as well as there didn't seem to be a lot for them to collect this fortnight. Weather is still dull and overcast as predicted so no change there.
  20. The X-flow cylinder block was longer so as to accomodate a 5 bearing crank as opposed to the original 3 bearing one. Ironically they reverted to a three bearing crank in the Fiesta because of width restrictions.
