  1. All the Cortina based pick-ups came from South Africa. They were not sold in the UK until the Mk. IV came along. Some Mk. III's have been imported privately. The chassis is derived from the Transit made a bit narrower.
  2. Belated happy birthday to Andrew and many happy returns to Pete (who beat me by 24 hours or less).
  3. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Things are going to be a bit hectic after lunch as setting up the exhibition commences late this afternoon and goes on into the evening. Most of my stuff is a case of wheeling it in and putting it on the table which won't be done until the morning though it will be delivered tonight. Must get on now, be back later.
  4. The usual way of getting American cars into the UK was to make them in Canada.
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Been getting some sales items ready for the weekend and now my back is telling me its time to stop but it means a bit of a rush tomorrow morning. A member has donated four brand new boxed Bachmann wagons, they will have to be placed so they can be put out of sight when a certain dodgy trader (DD) hoves into view. I was going to take my blood pressure but having just consumed two mugs of tea it would be a waste of time, way over my target of 140/80. Booked the car in for its MOT for next Thursday, ten year service that includes a new cambelt so its going to cost a bit. I'm thinking of getting a new car but I don't think I can afford brand new this time, better check those lottery tickets.
  6. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. When I returned from shopping at lunchtime I spotted some storm flies (flying ants) getting ready for take off. About an hour later there was a heavy shower lasting for about 15 minutes. Ians post reminded me that I forgot to mention the bin wagons dawn chorus this morning, the lesser spotted glass and bottle wagon was in full voice after Englands success in the footie. Can I go back and start again?
  7. Minix chose the Rambler, it is the only American car in the range. The only other foriegn car they made was the Simca.
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I was one of the first born under the auspices of the NHS being only two days younger but according to a website that if you put in the date/time of birth will tell you where you were in the queue there was *4,124 in front of me, baby boom or what? There was a retired surgeon speaking on the TV yesterday who qualified just as the NHS was being formed. His opinion was that the advances in health care combined with the above mentioned baby boom has contributed to the costs of the NHS more than anyone thought. *Though I may have jumped the queue as I was in a bit of a rush, my mum was in labour for less than an hour and I arrived on the trolly as mum was being wheeled in to the maternity unit from the ambulance.
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Club night tonight so final preparations for the show this weekend. Various items have been handed to me for the club sales stand, some of it quite interesting. If your coming to the show on Saturday wish me a happy 70th birthday, where did it all go?
  10. Afternoon from Estuary-Land. Just opened my e-mails to find one supposedly from Paypal. It said that my recent card payment had been refused by the bank and could I please send details. It was so blatantly a phishing exercise that it went straight into the spam folder after I had blocked the sender.
  11. Morning all from Estuary-Land. My TV guide definitely said last nights football would be on BBC, but then the TV guide was printed several weeks ago. As football is of no interest to me I didn't watch any of the game but I gather England won (yawn). A bit cooler this morning so feeling a bit more comfortable. Thats it for now, muggatee awaits, be back later.
  12. Its on BBC1, thats what I thought as well so I checked the schedule.
  13. A new series of 1:76 scale motorbikes has just been announced, just scroll down to find them. http://www.facebook.com/80mbusmodelshop/
  14. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I was pleasantly surprised this evening to find that the BBC evening news/local news had its normal alloted hour. On previous evenings when there was a 7 o'clock world cup kick off the news was truncated to 6:30 but tonight it carried on almost until kick-off. Whether this is the result of complaints about the lack of any news bulletins on Sunday I do not know.
  15. They produced a six cylinder version of the 'B' series.
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. According to the forecast the temperature hereabouts is going to hit 30 this weekend. It is also the weekend of our exhibition and the Saturday is my 70th birthday. If you want to pop along to wish me happy birthday I will be supervising the club sales stand. The hot weather has started more heathland fires in Wales this time. Now time for a muggatee, be back later.
  17. Fujimi also produced some 1/76 military vehicle kits, some of them included motorcycles. One was a U.S. Jeep with an Indian solo motorcycle and another was a German Kubelwagen with a BMW sidecar outfit. The Indian was at one time a serious competitor to Harley-Davidson with a 4 cylinder in-line engine. The BMW/sidecar unit represents one of those with a driven sidecar wheel. Another kit available from an Eastern European maker is a 1/72 Jawa motorbike of the 50's/60's era.
