  1. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Hot and sticky here at the moment despite the hour, we are promised a thunderstorm or two tomorrow afternoon but then perhaps not. There were still a couple of poppies flowering this afternoon but beginning to loose their petals. Teas made so time for a muggatee, be back later.
  2. Thats one train you won't want to beat to a level crossing, there aint anyone going to sound the horn or put the brakes on.
  3. Don't you have reversing lights on your car?
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Condolences on your loss Robert, like Andrew I lost my dad almost 30 years ago. I still think of both my parents almost every day. Now trying to get a list of events to take the young'n too over the holidays. Already booked is the bus rally at Barleylands Sunday week and the Southwold exhibition and a trip to the East Anglia Transport Museum are penciled in. Bye for now, be back later.
  5. There is a picture of a rake of Warwells loaded with Sherman tanks being hauled by a Metropolitan Bo-Bo electric.
  6. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The car passed its MOT with flying colours, only needing new windscreen wipers. One advisory, an oil drip that turned out to be a trapped spill from when they replaced the clutch, a steam clean would probably sort that out. The Mitsubishi was nice but a few things mean it would not suit. For example the folding rear seats on my current car are split 1 + 2 with the single seat on the nearside and the Mitsubishi is the opposite. I fold the double seat down to accomodate the stroller and my friends lad occupies the single seat so only in exceptional circumstances he will have to enter or leave the car where there is traffic. Has it got an expiry date?
  7. Even worse when its a van, they can't see anything coming from the left.
  8. Afternoon from Estuary-Land. Off to collect the car in about half an hour, no problems and another years MOT. They have given me a Mitsubishi loan car, quite a good motor and I might consider one as a replacement for my current car but I'm going to look at some others first.
  9. I have a 00 scale model of one, in the same colours. Actually its a Tomica diecast and very hard to find now.
  10. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Thoughts are with Robert and his dad. Up earlier than usual as the car has to go in for its 10 year service, not cheap. I am considering a new car but for no other reason that I now need a bigger one. Have to go now to empty the car ready for its service/MOT.
  11. Just collected from the sorting office earlier this evening a pair of Lima Fiat 131's which are 00 scale rather than H0. Very similar to Minix models.
  12. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Welcome to Natalie and I hope you enjoy your time with us. Didn't stay long at the club tonight, only five members there so there must be something interesting on the telly tonight. No fewer than three youtube videos have been made of our exhibition last weekend. I have posted them on the 'Basildon exhibition 7th & 8th July' thread. Thats it for now, be back later.
  13. Be careful though, some commercial bird seed contains cannabis seed.
  14. Brian is quite correct in post #6, it is the type of crane used for transfering nuclear flasks from road to rail. It is very like the one at Southminster and may even be based on that prototype.
  15. Who would want that particular brain anyway?
  16. I have checked it out on Google Streetview and it appears that the bridge has gone but at least part of the buttresses remain.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Enjoying the cooler weather while it lasts, the weekend is forecast to be a scorcher even if not as much as last weekend. The last of the poppies are flowering, both of them. The first to flower are now distributing their seeds, most of which are going down the cracks in the soil. Club night tonight but there will be no exhibition post mortem as it is the exhibition managers wedding anniversary. Very bad planning on his part what with the World cup semi-final as well. C & C's to those that require them, be back later.
  18. There was a small bridge giving rail access to Romford gasworks from the sidings next to Oldchurch hospital. It was still extant into the 1980's with the embankments removed. It might possibly still be there despite the redevelopement of both the gasworks and hospital sites.
  19. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Saw no more of the flypast than a few distant specks but the best view will probably be on this evenings news. Not a lot else to report so I'll be back later.
