  1. Those de-mountable bodies made excellent sheds when they were disposed of, I wonder if any survive?
  2. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Still on the warm side tonight but I think everybody is aware by now that we have a cooler spell coming along in a couple of days. Time to consume more (non-alcoholic) fluids, be back later.
  3. Best of luck with your new venture Andy. Will you be taking a stand to any shows in the future?
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Unlike many I slept like a log last night, but I still feel like going back to bed. Got to get in touch with the insurance about fixing the chipped windscreen this morning, hopefully its just an 'invisible repair required. Muggatee awaits so its be back later.
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Still a tad warm this evening, the thermostat is showing 26.5 C., at least the forecast is that the heatwave is coming to an end. I forgot to mention that a stone hit the windscreen on Saturday leaving a chip about a centimetre in diameter, hopefully it can be repaired. Luckily it is at the bottom of the screen, not in line of vision but in the swept area so its got to be done asap.
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. After yesterday's exertions I slept like a log last night and after a long soak in the bath this morning feel suitably refreshed. One thing I discovered at the show yesterday was that the East Anglian exhibition has found a new venue, The Arena at Kettering. Hope to meet a few other ER's there 8/9th June 2019. Thats it for now, be back later.
  7. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Has a great day at the Southwold show today, helped by the temperature near the coast being 3 or 4 degrees lower than inland. Managed to bag a bargain off of the club stall, a Bachmann HO Spectrum gas-electric 'doodlebug' in Santa Fe livery for £25. My friend and his young son also had a good time, the youngster fell asleep in the back of the car on the way home. Now for a nice muggatee, be back later.
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A quick hello and off to the Southwold show shortly. C & C's where neccessary, be back later.
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. It seems to be hotter here than it was during the day, the humidity is certainly up. Weather forecast for tomorrow is slightly cooler and even cooler on the coast but it looks as though you don't have to go that far inland to loose the coolness.
  10. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny here this morning but getting a bit sticky. Got to get things ready for the trip tomorrow as its an early start to get to the Southwold show. Fortunately the coast is going to be two or three degrees cooler than inland but still in the mid twenties. Also lined up for next Wednesday is the Family Fun Day at the Essex Fire Museum though I'm a bit dubious about one of the advertised activities, water squirting Though my friends young son is usually very well behaved he can be a little monkey when he wants to be I might pack a towel just in case. Thats it for now, be back later.
  11. Afternoon from Estuary-Land. Simon, glad to see that UU have done the thing that they should have done in the first place and installed a new pipe. I had new pipes installed a few years ago, no ifs, no buts just new pipes installed with a mole drill. There was a bit of keyhole surgery under the patio, they only removed two or three pavior bricks to install the connection into the house.
  12. A little girl goes into a toy store to buy a Barbie doll. On the shelf are two Barbies that looked identical, one was just labeled 'Barbie' priced at $19.95 and the other one was labeled 'Divorced Barbie' priced at $499.95. The little girl asked the assistant why the big price difference, the assistant replied. "The Divorced Barbie comes with Ken's car, Ken's house, Ken's boat, Ken's money, Ken's furniture, Ken's computer and Ken's best friend."
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Up a bit late this morning as a longer soak in the bath and nodding off wilst 'air drying' and I'm all behind. Just had a quick look in Facebook where a Canadian friend has just posted a pic of the weather in northern Alberta, SNOW! and quite heavy as well. Mind you it looked rather wet and slushy so hopefully it didn't stay for too long. Not much else to report so be back later.
  14. GDB had better watch out, he's now got competition.
  15. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Met my friend lunchtime and arranged the trip to the Southwold exhibition on Saturday so I'd better get the tank topped up before then. Also in August the Essex Fire and Rescue Service Museum has a 'Family fun day' on the 8th, 14th, 23rd and 28th. I would like to have a look around the museum and hopefully I can avoid the water squirting which is one of the activities promised for the younger visitors but no doubt my friends young son will want to do that. The museum is situated in Hogg Lane, Grays so not to far to go, we have penciled in the 8th but there is three further dates.
  16. I have a book in my library titled 'London's lost riverscape'. It is actually a photograph album showing both banks of the Thames from London Bridge to Greenwich in 1937. The photographs were commissioned by the PLA and form a continuous montage of the docks , boatyards, wharehouses and other industries on both banks of the river with some of the vessels visiting them thrown in for good measure. The TH yard features in the photographs complete with buoys under repair.
  17. There was a company making cheap white metal copies of various diecasts in 00 scale. IIRC they produced copies of many of the Dinky Dublo models as well as a few of the Matchbox models including the J2 pick-up. They were very crude and often poorly made.
  18. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Weather as reported by Tony, not sure of the limit of Trinity House's juristriction but I have seen their vessels as far up river as Gravesend. There was (is) a TH depot further up river beyond Greenwich but I can't recall exactly where. My own family were watermen working out of Gravesend and until the 1880's provided such services as pilotage between Gravesend and the sea until TH took over such matters. Not planning to do a lot today except to tidy the car up, my friend was eating something with flaky pastry at the weekend and made a bit of a mess, his 10 year old son however managed without making a mess (though ice cream is a different matter). Muggatee awaits, be back later.
