  1. Also the area is poorly served with Motorways, in fact it doesn't have any barring the M11 which is periferal at best. The two major roads, the A12 and A14 are heavily congested for much of the day.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Just after getting in to bed last night just as I was drifting off I was awoken by a strange noise. At first I thought it might be a jet flying overhead and then it dawned on me that it was the central heating firing up for the first time in two or three months. Thats it Mick, if you can't beat them, cheat.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. When I went into Tesco's lunchtime they had even more towels out at 'to clear' prices. This time though there was no one there to grab the lot so I was able to snaffle a bath sheet, even better it matches the hand towels I snaffled yesterday. I'd just got home when it bucketed down but an hour later the sun was shining.
  4. And require them to use their own toothbrush.
  5. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The Forecast for today is wet, according to Arfur Itis, the seaweed wranglers mearly confirmed that prediction. Nothing planned for this weekend but next weekend on the Sunday I will be visiting the East Anglia Transport Museum, and if we have time we might take in the 'Middy' on the way home. The dream was to take in both of those together with the Ipswich Transport Museum and the Long Shop Museum all in one day, just about doable if I was a bit younger but not any more. Sorry to hear of your friends death Robert, as GDB said its no age to die. C & C's where neccessary, muggatee 3 awaits, be back later.
  6. This is a true story, we've all heard the old joke about entry to a show or exhibition will be free to anyone over 90 accompanied by both parents. An Irish theatre actually printed that in their advertising. An elderly chap turned up with his birth certificate and two urns full of ashes, he got in for free.
  7. All the information I have is that it is a terminal illness. It could be any one of a number of illnesses, I will keep you updated if and when I receive any further information.
  8. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Its been a damp day today, slightly less humid as well. It was pouring when I went down to Tesco's where they were selling old stock at knock down prices, bath sheets at £3 a time. I would like to have grabbed one or two but one woman had grabbed the lot, about two dozen piled up in a shopping trolly. I did manage to pick up a couple of hand towels and a bath mat at bargain prices however. The slugs, or as it seems the slug had returned, I looked up and there it was crossing the lounge floor, so out with the kitchen roll and a good dose of salt and it was goodby Mr. Slug. At least they don't grow as big as the ones in the tropics. Many years ago I spent a holiday in Barbados, the hotel was a series of chalets in a large garden. One night I awoke to see in the moonlight something large and dark crawling up the wall. Upon switching on the light it was the biggest slug I'd ever seen, this one was about 8 inches long and an inch in girth. I later discovered that they could sometimes grow to a foot in length.
  9. Sadly the owner of Road Transport Images, Frank Waller, has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. He is therefore seeking a buyer for the entire business etc.
  10. They must be bad, they're coming through the planet and opening up on this side of the world.
  11. Morning all from Estuary-Land. There was an accident hereabouts early yesterday afternoon. I was returning from doing a bit of shopping when I came across the accident, just a few yards west of the junction of Clay Hill Road and Church Lane (Basildon). It involved all three emergency services but all that I could see was the underneath of an overturned car. The mystery is that it occured on a straight bit of road in broad daylight without any obstructions to vision. It was easy for me to avoid the hold up by taking a detour down Church Lane. I passed the spot later when I went to the club, the only evidence was white powder covering a couple of small oil spills. Not a lot to do today except for a bit of shopping, thats it for now, be back later.
  12. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. A lot cooler and fresher today thankfully. Luckily my friends young lad is just tall enough not to require a child seat/booster cushion, when we measured him last year he just scraped in by a few millimetres and of course he's grown a bit since. Must be off now for the club meeting, be back later.
  13. I recently won a bid on a job lot of old Matchbox and other plastic and diecast toys. I espied in the pics four Minix cars including a couple of the rarer ones so I bid £20 but expected to be outbid but I won the bid at £18, worth it at least for the Minix cars alone. Also included was a Lone Star 'Impy' Foden 8 wheel chassis and cab and a Matchbox domestic garage minus its doors plus another diecast garage of similar size that has no identification. Theres a few other bits that will be useful for code 3's, the rest will go to the 10p box at our next show.
  14. The RK registration is/was Croydon. Wherever it is I hope the current owners have kept the Art Deco features. (I can imagine it with a 1938 Triumph Dolomite parked in the drive.)
  15. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A lot cooler this morning, just caught the edge of the thunderstorm so Tony was correct about Gravesend copping it, ironic as yesterday Gravesend was the hottest place in the country at 34:5 C. If the weather map is anything to go by its heading east so Dutch Master should be getting some much longed for rain, not so sure about further east though. I was intending to take the lad to the family fun day at the Essex Fire Museum but he decided that he didn't want to go, but not to worry as there's three more this month if he changes his mind. Thats it for now, be back later.
  16. The second pic must be post 1971 (J reg. on 1100).
  17. Actually those BT bodies would make a good layout shed. They are solidly built with an aluminium frame and panelled in Plymax with a one piece translucent fibreglass roof. Inside they have plenty of storage built in and plenty of headroom.
  18. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Distant thunder but no sign of the wet stuff yet, not even the bit that Tony received. At least you don't have to put a googolplex in Roman numerals. Isn't that a Textopus? EDIT. Its now started raining as I was typing the above. But only at the front of the house, the back was dry. EDIT2 The rain is now falling front and back.
  19. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The thermostat is indicating 26.C already and the overnight temperature did not drop below 18.C outside. Despite that I slept like a log last night. Luckily for me my bedroom is on the cool (north) side of the house and never gets too hot. Thunderstorms are predicted by the seaweed twirlers for late this afternoon/evening but Arfur Itis isn't predicting anything at the moment. Muggatee awaits so its be back later.
