  1. Just a thought, the Rascal was basically a Suzuki Carry with Bedford/Vauxhall badging. The following model was virtually the same vehicle with the front wheels moved ahead of the cab and a short bonnet added. They were also fitted with 13 inch wheels so if you can obtain a set of wheels from one of these they hopefully would fit without any problems.
  2. I have one of these with the petrol pumps. However it is in a not very good condition, the facia board is missing together with the plastic parts of the petrol pumps and the BP sign. Not sure whether its better to try and restore it or make something else from it.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. It must be 60 years since I tasted peanut butter, then it was the latest new thing to tempt the kids, I never understood what all the fuss was about. Since the secondary school just a street away from me went back last week my internet has been dead slow before 9 o'clock then all of a sudden its back to normal speed. I got in touch with my internet provider and got a recorded message saying their experiencing heavy usage.
  4. There is now four or five times the number of cars on the road and the number of idiot drivers has also increased proportionately.
  5. I see you've yet to refit the windscreen wipers. I once had a Vauxhall Rascal and a vital part of the wiper mechanism fell out and it was neccessary to remove the dashboard to put it back together. If you have to remove the dash to wire up the door mirrors it might be an idea to do both jobs while the dash is out. If you have fitted larger wheels it would have altered the gear ratio so you might have to have the speedo re-calibrated.
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Found more stuff that needs to go to the charity shop over the weekend so its a second trip later in the week after todays car load. I will be taking it to the local hospice charity rather than one of the big national ones. Not a lot else to report, muggatee awaits so its be back later time.
  7. Not many of those left, I once had a Praire and there's only seven of those left according to the DVLA.
  8. Its not neccessary to take the whole vehicle to have tyres fitted, just the wheels. Also they have a mobile service where the tyres are fitted 'at home' but that costs extra.
  9. I got my tyres via Black Circles, very convenient, you choose and buy your tyres on the internet and then you only have to take the vehicle in at the booked time and place to have them fitted.
  10. My solution would be to dig a trench (2'X2') across the road on both sides of the level crossing and leave them open whilst work is being carried out. I do however appreciate the H&S aspects of this for those working on the crossing but if anyone drives their car into the trenches its down to them.
  11. I noticed that my tyres were showing cracks about the edge three years ago so I replaced them straight away. They were seven years old and less than 20,000 miles. I would have had to replace a couple of them due to pothole damage that was not visible whilst they were on the wheel. My brother had a Citroen Visa, IIRC it was 1100 cc with 4 cylinders mounted traversly but I understood the cheaper versions had the engine/transmission from the 2CV.
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I seem to recall Jamie mentioning a satelite dish so I assume thats how he gets British TV. When I spent a Christmas in Ostend many years ago the hotel TV's were all tuned in to British TV stations, the best reception was from Anglia and BBC East. I went on a trip to Brugge on Boxing Day though the day is a normal working day in Belgium though, I liked it so much that I have paid several return visits. Thats it for now, muggatee awaits, be back later.
  13. Under the 1930 road traffic act a 30 mph limit was placed on all roads except where a variation applied or the road was de-restricted. Roads where a variation applied the variation was shown as a number in a red circle that we are all familiar with as is the sign for a de-restricted road of a black bar in a white circle. The '20' sign indicated that the vehicle was even further restricted. You may have noticed that roads where a 30mph limit applies do not have the small repeater signs indicating the limit because drivers are expected to know of the 30 mph limit. EDIT As in Nearholmers post above vehicles fitted with solid tyres were even more limited, some as low as 5mph.
  14. Right up until the 60's heavy goods vehicles on British roads were limited to 20 mph. This was to warn other road users that it was a slow vehicle, and to inform police etc. that it was a speed limited vehicle.
  15. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Forgot to mention, the town of Bad Durkheim is also the home of an annual sausage festival that is held about this time of year. So if you like your wurst its the place to go. EDIT Its also the start of the Winestrasse for those who like wine.
  16. Not many places where that happens now, only *Hong Kong and Macau come to mind. Mainland China also used to drive on the left until 1946 but the colonies retained the left hand rule. One might have thought that Macau being Portugese would have changed but when it was cut off from Maoist China most of its contact with the rest of the world was through Hong Kong. *There are some places in Indo-China and Africa where the change takes place at national boundries.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The rain has now stopped, either that or it missed this part of Estuary-Land. There's plenty of large wine barrels in that part of the world including the world's largest at Bad Durkheim. Its so huge that it houses a restaurant, on two floors! It can also be reached from Heidelberg by tram if you don't mind changing trams a couple of times.
  18. The old Austro-Hungarian empire drove on the left and that included Austria itself and Yugoslavia, the change was forced upon them by Hitler. The parts of Canada where the left hand rule applied were Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, Newfoundland didn't change over until 1948 when it became part of Canada.
  19. It had two traction motors, hence the connecting rods making it a 1-B-B-1.
  20. Many of their light commercials are certainly 1/76 scale, they also do an armoured Unimog (police) that is also 1/76.
