  1. Fill the centre of the roundabout with plenty of redundant telegraph poles. It wasn't a dashcam, it was a motorcycle helmet cam.
  2. Back in the 70's there was a novelty shop in Romford High Street (Opposite the Salvation Army.) that had a quantity of Egger-Bahn 009 stock in the window at a very cheap price, needless to say it didn't remain in the window for long.
  3. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Sun was shining earlier but now its come over a bit dull. It was predicted by the seaweed wranglers together with a bit of wetness this afternoon. Did anyone else spot the young ladies sunbathing topless on the beach?
  4. OK pink for the girls, blue for the boys but whats the green one for?
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The wind has dropped a bit and the cloud has disappeared, evidenced by the bright three-quarter moon. As many of you are aware you can take any vehicle on to the Nurburgring, here are a few of the more unusual ones.
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I was woken up at 2:30 this morning by the rain rattling on the windows and the wind howling like a banshee. I managed to get back to sleep quite quickly though. Still a bit breezy this morning but at least the suns out. Now its time for muggatee, have a good POETS day, be back later.
  7. For illustrations of loaded military wagons including Warwells the 'Working Wagons' series by David Larkin is a good photographic reference.
  8. My friend is taking his young son to Duxford this Sunday for a WW2 flying show. Regretably the forecast is for strong gusty winds and heavy rain.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A tad blustery this morning but the rain is not expected before the early hours of tomorrow evening. The usual bin wagons dawn chorus this morning was barely noticable, perhaps I turned over and went back to sleep. Muggatee awaits so its be back later.
  10. An interesting train variation, London Transports Acton works was charged with preparing Sherman tanks for D-Day. The tanks were delivered and collected on Warwells hauled by ex-Metropolitan Bo-Bo electric locomotives.
  11. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Wind is a lot stronger than this morning but the sun is shining. Now to put the kettle on for another muggatee.
  12. The point I was making was perhaps the engine could have been made even quieter, perhaps with more insulation. The army once tested a special silenced diesel generator for use near front lines, what was remarkable was that the engine that powered it was an air cooled two stroke diesel.
  13. Morning all from a windy Estuary-Land. At least its dry, at the moment. The fourth packet arrived yesterday, containing one of the two largest items ordered, in a Jiffy-bag! No sign of any slugs this morning so hopefully there is no more. Not a lot else to report and muggatee awaits so be back later.
  14. A quick hello as I should be somewhere else in ten minutes, be back later.
  15. I disagree, for me the diesel sound detracts from the image of what was a petrol vehicle. Perhaps its not possible to quieten it any more and there are problems with using petrol/LPG alongside live steam.
  16. The original intention on grouping was to have five companies, the 'big four' plus a separate company for Scotland until it was realised that such a company would not be financially viable. Of the companies that made up the LNER the GER was the most efficient considering it had very few mineral sources or industry in its area. In fact the GER railway posed a financial problem in a surprising way, part of the grouping agreement was that wages would be set at the highest rates (for the grade) of each group. The GER generally paid the highest rates, as much as 10% more than some of the other LNER companies. The cost of bringing the wage rates into line would have affected some of the lines in Scotland in particular.
