  1. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I intend to go out on Sunday so I'm checking the weather forecasts. However the BBC forecasters will not tell you whats happening beyond the early hours of Sunday. I've been a subscriber to Travelzoo for at least 10 years. They are in fact a remainder shop for holidays rather than books so the prices are ridiculously cheap in most cases, but you might not find exactly what you want. I would paint a message on them, something like 'Smile your on camera.' Edit for finger problem.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit breezy but otherwise warm and sunny this morning. Not much else to report so its be back later.
  3. The one survivor now on the K&ES is the one that was at Longmoor.
  4. IIRC the track was raised in some of the stations to give step free access to the tube stock.
  5. Ever thought of putting it on a pendelum? arranged that it turns at the end of the swing so that its always nose first. The only problem I can see is that you will need a 30 foot high ceiling to accomodate it.
  6. I lived for a few years in Burnham-on-Crouch. The soil of the Dengie peninsular is different from most of the rest of Essex which is mostly heavy sticky clay. The Dengie however is a lighter soil overlaying gravel so is well drained making it ideal for certain crops. The one drawback is that the land suffers more during drought.
  7. Certain weed roots should never be put in the compost especially bindweed. Many years ago I had a garden with an infestation of Japanese Knotweed, before it was compulsory to report it. I successfully disposed of it by cutting it back to a few inches and filling the hollow stems with rock salt, it never came back but nothing grew in that corner of the garden for a few years. Getting back on topic, carbon monoxide is the product of incomplete combustion. If you have to remove a large ammount of ash the wood burner isn't burning properly and producing CO. There can be several reasons for this but most often its down to the flue not being swept often enough.
  8. Why can't a trust be set up to mantain the museum?
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late this morning, I blame it on the lateness of the bin lorries dawn chorus meaning I overslept, just as well I have nothing much to do today. It was the arrival of the lesser spotted glass and bottle wagon that in full song can awaken the dead that woke me up. Next doors skip has been blessed with another visit from the metal faries but seeing that very little has been deposited in there the pickings must have been slim. At least they have left things clean and tidy.
  10. I do notice that the spider has only two eyes, IIRC they usually have more eyes than they have legs, I suppose he saves a fortune at Specsavers.
  11. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The water supply is back on in the clubroom but at very much reduced pressure. The cause is a leak beneath the building and in one of the layout rooms the (concrete) floor is bulging and has a crack due to 'heave'. At least the wooden building has absorbed a lot of movement only a couple of joints have opened. The water company is going to lay a new pipe after which the ground should hopefully settle back. In the meantime we have had to clear the room in question. Hopefully once the new pipe is laid the excess water under the building will drain away quickly.
  12. They could have used the 1983 tube stock, which was to all intents and purposes was a tube gauge version of the D stock, even sharing such items as bogies, unfortunately the 1983 stock has all been scrapped.
  13. Google 'Indian Hills Sign'.
  14. The mandatory ban for drink driving was brought in after a magistrate did not apply it to a drink driver as it would 'Interfere with his duties as master of the local foxhunt'. There was such an uproar that the magistrate was forced to retire from the bench. A prime example of not what you know but whome you know.
  15. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Will have to make the most of the Indian summer, retribution is on its way for the weekend which is predicted to be wet and windy. Hope you have a great time Chris on your trip down under and hopefully you can keep in touch while your there. C & C's where neccessary, be back later.
  16. There is a bonfire ban hereabouts, I thought such bans were common throughout the country.
  17. Mark and note any thick clumps of bushes on the route?
  18. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright sunny and warming up nicely. I hope your time 'inside' will not be too long John. C & C's to all that require them, be back later.
