  1. Morning all from Estuary-Land. On the news this morning that the Welsh slate mines/quarries are in the frame to becoming a World Heritage site. I have never had a problem reversing trailers but my dad was the expert but then he has driven a quad with limber and 25-pounder dangling behind and then a tank transporter (Diamond T and trailer) with a Sherman tank load. Thats it for now, be back later.
  2. When I visited the K&ESR a few years back I was invited into the cab of the ex Fords BTH locomotive. I don't know if it was the original seat but the drivers seat was of the fold down type and was quite comfortable.
  3. Surely the control desk would have been similar if not identical to the contemporary Tyneside electrics? Though I should imagine that using electrical equipment over 100 years old would be frowned upon.
  4. The Zephyr 6 estate is spot on 1/76, I placed one alongside the Oxford saloon model and the measurements are identical. Another one that is 1/76 scale is the forward control Landrover.
  5. Another demolition derby favourite especially the limo's and hearses. And the later Mk.1 Granadas are rare now.
  6. A lot of the stronger built classics ended up in demolition derby's. A good case in point is the A55/Oxford Farina saloons many of which ended that way.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Thoughts are with Debs today. The pruners are about, sounds as if we're surrounded by a swarm of angry bees. Those with wood burning stoves will be happy though. Talking of trees, an interesting pic popped up on Facebook yesterday. A truck (in the USA) had been parked up sometime in the 1970's. A tree had sprouted underneath the gearbox. Over the years the tree grew around the gearbox until it was decided to remove the truck. To do so they had to cut the truck up in situ leaving the gearbox imbedded in the tree trunk.
  8. The 105E Anglia used far less steel than the 100E and it showed. The 107E Prefect (100E with the 105E engine/gearbox) had a worse performance than its side valve predecessor.
  9. Any more information such as the route it took and any name?
  10. Its surprising how many models that were once so common have disappeared almost entirely. The number of Nissan Praires on the road can be counted on the fingers of one hand. There are none of the once very common Suzuki SJ Jeeps left at all (though quite a few are sorned and maybe being used off-road.)
  11. Not forgetting the Morris Minor that in van form that was produced up until about 1973.
  12. I was happily driving around in a Ford 100E Popular as late as 1974. Back then it was only 12 years old and even then was replaced by a newer car, a 122E Anglia estate that was itself six years old.
  13. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Thanks for the info re. the A13 Tony. I didn't venture that way until lunchtime and the roads were practically empty. The neighbours are finaly moving this week and I have just found out the buyer is a private landlord so its pot luck as to who my new neighbours will be.
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Hopefully the roadworks on the A13 are over and I can reach Tesco's without too much hassle, just as well the lorry under the bridge incident happened before the road closures. The high pressure dome sitting over Jamie is a different one to that over the USA as midweek that one is predicted to move east and settle in the Atlantic for most of the coming week. As winds rotate in a clockwise direction that means that very cold air will be drawn down across the UK from the Arctic. Luckily it will be dry air so the only snow will be on high ground in the north of Scotland but its still going to be cold so winter drawers on.
  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Gave Tesco's a miss today, even the access roads are blocked by people looking for a way past the roadworks so I went to Asda instead, I was going into Basildon anyway to get a magazine from W H Smiths. Now to watch the rest of the Amercan G P, be back later.
  16. This is from a third railway that operated in Cyprus, another mineral line that operated in and around Vasilikos on the south coast of the island. A surprising fact is that despite having the same 2' 6" gauge and running alongside each other for several miles the Government railway and the CMC never had a connection.
  17. They look very much like the pics in the Middleton press book.
  18. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Roundhouse, while you were in Chelmsford you could have popped into the exhibition. As for the football hooligans apparently they were all QPR 'fans' fighting amongst themselves according to the local news. AndyB, not just in Essex but in other counties as well it happens the you follow roadsigns to your destination only to find at the next roundabout there is no indication, or if there is its usually obscured by trees and shrubs. I point blank refuse to use a prattnav, it was the use of one that resulted in the lorry jammed under the bridge at Pitsea a couple of days ago.
  19. Tony, last time I visited Battlesbridge. in June the model shop was closed for the annual holidays. I do intend to visit the shop sometime in the near future.
  20. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Had a good day at the Chelmsford show despite it taking almost two hours to get there. The reason was the A13 was closed for roadworks which I didn't discover until I was caught up in the traffic. I managed to find my way to the A127 and then pick up the A130 at Battlesbridge but then not being familiar with the road layout there I found myself going the wrong way down the A130. Coming back the roads were clear so I decided to pop into Tesco's which upon leaving I found almost all the exits were gridlocked except onto the westbound A13 so I came home that way.
