  1. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Dull but dry here this morning. Had a quick word with my neighbours last night about their barge board, another thing on their list for their builder. The fireworks last night sounded a bit nearer but there wasn't so many of them and they'd finished by ten. Muggatee to be drunk, be back later.
  2. I agree he looks a right troublemaker from the way he looks furtively around to see if anyones spotted him.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Last night the fireworks were quite distant but tonight they sound as if they are in the next street. Just met my new nieghbours this afternoon, Dave and Irene, they seem to be OK. At the moment they are giving the house a thorough going over. We did discuss the repointing of a wall that straddles both properties, and extending his gutter to connect with mine, the gutter is the cause of the problem in the first place. Our guttering is of identical profile fortunately only his is black and mine is white. I will have to point out a few things that need attention that they may not be aware of, such as a barge board on their extension that is falling apart but is only visible and accessible from my side of the property.
  4. The sign to the left of the tracks indicates that there is.
  5. I have the entire series and some of the other 30 or so models are quite useful though some have glaring faults. Some of the best ones in the series are the Unimog, the road sweeper, the Komatsu bulldozer and the Volvo excavator. The only other pure rail vehicle is the ballast undercutter, another one to practice your weathering skills on.
  6. The Liverpool Street lines used to run on dual voltage 25 KV on the 'country' lines and 6.5 KV towards London. IIRC the changover took place near Chadwell Heath. It was very noticable on the 305 units, if you rode in the carriage with the guard compartment, a loud clunk followed by a vibrating sound.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. After yesterdays exertions I felt a bit knackered but a long soak in the bath this morning and I feel a lot better. I don't use Radox unlike ChrisF but a cheaper alternative, the big advantage of adding such substances to the bathwater is that it makes the bath easier to clean. One of my purchases at Romford was a book of photographs of buses and coaches around Romford in the 60's and 70's. What surprised me that on reading some items in the captions (about the car he drove and where he worked) that I had actually worked with the author at the time he was taking the photographs. His name is Dave Christie and he also mentions photographing the last steam locomotives on the old GER. Thats it for now, be back later.
  8. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Managed to visit two shows today, Romford and Wickford. Both shows were pretty good but very different in nature. The Romford show was your typical local club show with a good mix of layouts and traders. The Wickford show was a typical 'church hall' type show which despite that had some very high quality layouts. The only bugbear of the whole day was nothing to do with the exhibitions but with Essex CC highways department. Some idiot had decided to close parallel sections of the A13 and A127 at the same time. Traffic chaos ensued. Fortunately I have the local knowledge to enable me to avoid most of it, I think my companions were impressed by my knowledge of the back streets of Hornchurch and Romford. I made a few purchases at Romford including the Oxford Warwell with Sherman tank load. Thats it for now, be back later.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A quick hello and goodbye, off to the Romford show.
  10. It can and does happen. When Eurostar operated into Waterloo on the third rail system pantographs were left up a couple of times and damaged as a result.
  11. Bl00dy is the definitive word.
  12. I had something similar a couple of weeks ago. I dumped it in the spam folder and blocked the sender.
  13. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. A bit of a kerfuffle on the A13 this morning, It was closed both ways from Tarpots, where Tony resides to Sadlers Farm. My mate who also lives in South Benfleet was on a bus that was diverted via the station and Canvey Way. From what he observed all three emergency services were in attendance in some numbers. When I discover more I will let you know.
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny this morning if a bit nippy and should last over most of the weekend. I will be visiting the Romford show tomorrow and if time permits I'll pop into the one at Wickford. Not a lot else to report so its be back later.
  15. I once had a similar two up two down cottage, about 80 years earlier there had been a family with twelve children living there.
  16. Perhaps we could build them some new locos. After Brexit we will need the business.
  17. A feature of the Garratt design was it could accomodate a larger diameter boiler within the same loading gauge than a rigid framed locomotive. Generally the largest boiler that could be fitted to a rigid framed locomotive would be 6' 3" to about 6' 8".
  18. I have that problem with my first name which is spelt with two L's.
