  1. It's the silly season, runs from Jan 1st. to December 31st. every year.
  2. The North Eastern likewise with their own fleet of coal wagons.
  3. One idiot this evening on the A13. I was driving east approaching the Pitsea flyover having pulled out to the outside lane to avoid the queue of cars that usually forms there in the rush hour. A lorry in the nearside lane indicated that he wanted to pull into the outside lane (due to said queue). So I flashed my headlights to allow the lorry to pull out. As he did so this idiot in a Fiesta sped up alongside me only to have to brake sharply to avoid hitting the queue of cars.
  4. But the captain wants to go water skiing!
  5. The crane looks like a Thorneycroft, as per RAF recovery set. A temporary road would have probably been laid to spread the weight. The tail of the aircraft appears to be supported on a trestle as part of the recovery process.
  6. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Feeling a lot better but my appetite seems to have gone, I'm not searching that diligently for it yet as I could do with a bit of weight loss, though I am eating a little but not as much as usual. C&C's to those that require them and I hope those black dogs stay kennelled.
  7. There is one preserved in the UK at Mangapps, IIRC the stove is coal fired. They usually accomodated three men, a senior conductor and two conductors. These could spend more than a week out on the road. Coming fully equiped with the various facilities grounded examples were very popular as holiday homes.
  8. I am also frequent user of the A127, I usually move into the outside lane as I approach junctions on that road and a few others as well.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The lurgi has almost disappeared and I'm feeling a lot better today. Those gel fiiled knee pads sound like a good idea thanks Andrew though I think in my circumstances a kneeling stool would be preferable, getting down on my knees is not a problem its getting back up again is. Thats about it for now, be back later.
  10. Many drivers expect the traffic on the motorway to give way to them when they enter the motorway.
  11. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I seem to have recovered from the lurgi but still feeling a bit weak so I think an early(ish) night tonight.
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Almost shaken off the lurgi, took a 'Micky Finn' last night and went out like a light. Both my grandfathers survived the war though my paternal grandfather was gassed, which probably caused his poor health in later life. C&C's to those who require them and happy birthday to OD.
  13. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Still feeling like death warmed up so its off to bed.
  14. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Looks as if I've got the dreaded lurgi, I keep coming over in hot flushes but my feet feel like blocks of ice. I've notched up the central heating and consuming plenty of liquids, that seems to have eased the symptoms. Held the two minutes silence at the toy fair and no one interupted it.
  15. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Hissing down here this morning, hope it clears before 11 o'clock. I will be going out shortly to a toy fair that allways occurs on Remembrance Sunday but everything stops for the two minutes silence. C&C's to all that require them and thoughts for those who were lost on this special day.
  16. When they went into departmental service the veranda was often enclosed which made them very cosy.
  17. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Bob, if you do go to Peterborough there's plenty of places both inside and outside the venue where you can go for a meal. When I last visited a couple of years ago I had an excellent meal in the carvery thats just inside the entrance for £12. Gwiwer, you might find this useful to complain about the jobsworths>> http://ceoemail.com Of course it would be useful if you can identify who employed them, if you can't I would suggest the management at Twickenham.
  18. You forgot the Teutonic penile extensions cutting across from the outside lane to one of the exits.
  19. Mike, Peterborough is an excellent show. No parking problems but it might mean a long walk to the door. I hope to go on the Sunday but that depends on a number of factors. I would also recommend booking in advance, the ticket booths are some distance from the front door and very exposed. You can get very wet if its raining.
  20. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late this morning due to the RMweb server not being available but everything looks OK now. I forgot to mention that I took some locos to the test night on Thursday. One in particular was an Ertl Thomas the tank engine diecast of Toby the tram engine. I found it on the club stall at an exhibition a few weeks ago. It had been motorised with a Tenshodo spud, the 'face' had been removed and replaced with a panel with yellow/black chevrons and a pantograph on the roof. When I placed it on the track it went in fits and starts but soon got into its stride, not bad for £22.
  21. Thats because they were withdrawn earlier than other contemporary designs due to the lack of duckets. Other types, LMS designs mostly were withdrawn for the same reason.
