  1. Another great video. The low angle footage shows off your excellent scenic work to great effect. Your layout has inspired me to think about a planning a small layout with a West Highland or urban Glasgow theme.
  2. Services north of Inverness were usually in the hands of double headed 26s. I've never seen any photos of 27s, however, it is entirely possible. Class 37s took over the services from the summer timetable 1982. Here's is a pair of 26s waiting to depart Inverness. 26040 & 26026
  3. If you have a local WH Smiths, you may be able to obtain a copy of issue 3 and 4.
  4. 27008 - an 'Ugly Duckling' with plated over central cab window at Eastfield on 11th Sept 1982 and a more conventional looking 27017 also at Eastfield on 1th Sept 1982
  5. Originally fitted with 4 headcode discs, by the 1980s they started to gradually disappear after works visits. As you can see from photos already posted, locos appear with and without / open and closed discs. By the time they were repainted into Railfreight Grey, the discs had gone.
  6. I must admit I hadn't notice all the panel damage on 26029. Here is 26004 also at Haymarket shed on 11.6.82 which also appears to have similar panel damage. Possibly, the gloss paint finish exaggerates the problem.
  7. Following on from starting a 'Class 25 photos' thread a few weeks ago, I've found quite a few Class 26/27 photos from the 1980s. Once again, I would like to invite all to join in and post their photos, including preserved examples. Heljan have recently announced another run of oo gauge 27s, so I guess they must be popular with modellers. Although mainly associated with Scotland, many were allocated to depots in England in their early days. I'll start off with a couple of very clean (possibly ex-works) examples at Eastfield 1982 26029 27063
  8. Agree - South Blyth shed was a similar design to the TMC model and would look great, although you would need a couple of dozen J27s to convincingly model a Sunday morning scene in the 1960s!
  9. Great photos. Shame the layout won't be at Birtley. Quality modelling which reminds me of another great layout across the river in North Tyneside - Chris Pendlenton's 'North Shields'.
  10. I've now exhausted all my 1980s photos and now move forward 30 years to the K&WVR Diesel Gala 2013. 25059 looks just the way I like to see a 25 - weathered, body-side number and snow ploughs. Only marred by the 'headlight'!
  11. Looking good Chris and the bullhead track looks great. I'm a big fan of small layouts, so I'll be following with interest. Mal
  12. A couple of Eastfield's 25s 25226 and 25229 on shed 4.5.82 I do have a liking for Scottish 25s with body-side mumbers. Mal ps I just noticed the different positioning of the mumbers on the 2 locos.
  13. Nice video and sound effects! I love all the small details in the scene which look so natural. Great work! Mal
  14. Apologies. I misread your post. As it's new it should be able to store/recall 6 locos.
  15. Something a little different about this pic of 25075 at Edinburgh Waverley. First pic shows the loco arriving at Waverley and the second shows the loco backing onto the coaches forming a service to Dundee. Unusual as this service was normally booked for a class 27. Also, 25075 was 1 of only 3 25/1s which received over-sized body-side numbers. The others 2 were 25062 and 25066.
  16. The original Powercabs ones were only able to store 2 locos in the 'recall' function, so your secondhand one is probably one of those. When switched on should display V1.28c. Later PowerCabs were upgraded to store 6 locos. I believe it is possible to upgrade.
  17. Thanks to everyone for the enthusiastic response to this thread. Some great photos and comments. It's good to see that the 25s are still popular with modellers and enthusiasts. Looking at all the photos made me think that I couldn't imagine a 25 painted in any of the later liveries that other BR locos received. For such a numerous class, 25s were not a common sight in the North East in the 1980s, however, a trip to Carlisle would usually produce a sighting or two. 25059 25202
  18. Toton 6th November 1982. 25/2 25245. Note the small black circle located centrally low down on the cab front. This was a fitting for a radio telephone cable wire to enable the driver and guard to communicate when the loco was used to haul Royal trains, 25245 was a regular on these duties. 25/3 25284
  19. I recently discovered that I have quite a collection of Class 25 photos from the 1980s and was surprised to find that here on RMWeb there isn't a dedicated thread for this, once numerous class of BR diesel locos. I've always had a fondness for 25s and they seem to be popular with modellers. Indeed, Bachmann have announced a re-tooled 25/1 and Heljan have announced a new 00 25/3. I would like to invite all to join in with their own photos including preserved examples. I'll start off the thread with a few 25s pics taken at Chester in 1984. 25191 25058 Unidentified 25/3 Mal
  20. £15.00 seems a tad expensive for 3M. I picked up a can for a fiver at ASDA some time ago but not sure if they still stock it. My seafoam trees have been re-cycled onto several layouts and not dropped there Noch leaves. Mal
  21. Great news. I hope to see they layout at Birtley in March. Mal
