On VE day my dad was in the RAF, 514 Sqdn, flying over Rotterdam, Holland dropping food parcels to the Dutch people who had been left starving by the Germans. 'Operation Manna' (manna from heaven).

Added more grass tufts. The siding along the front of the layout is now becoming, decidedly overgrown.

To finish off the greenery on the layout, I needed some more grass tufts. As I had ran out, I decided to have a go at making my own tufts using static grass, PVA glue, my Noch Grasmaster, a cheap small baking tray and greaseproof paper. Quite pleased with the results.

Static Grass Tips and Techniques
Alcanman replied to MichaelW's topic in Scenery, Structures & Transport
Had a go at making some grass tufts. I picked up a cheap small baking tray and greaseproof paper on my weekly ASDA shopping trip. Static grass, PVA glue and my Noch Grasmaster produced these results. -

Bachmann OBA/ZDA body/chassis removal?
Alcanman replied to Foden's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
I have a Bachmann ZDA (ex OCA) and a few OCAs. They all have a very small screw located centrally underneath the chassis. I think you probably also need to remove the screws at each end which hold the axle housing in place. Not sure if the OBAs are the same. -
Today, I've been working on the last part of the layout which required scenery. A mixture of grass mats, grass tufts,( I made some of my own this time) ,static grass and sea moss trees. The layout has taken only 2 months to build and is now almost finished. Just a few more details to add. I love building small layouts.

Today, I've been working on some concrete hard standing along the front of the layout. I used some Ratio platforms (having used the platform edging for coping on the stone walls at the back of the layout)

Bonjour Alain. I very much enjoyed your cab ride video, reminded me of my trip from Fort William to Mallaig back in 1984 with 37191. The whisky hoppers look good even though they are a very old model. (Liliput moulding and slightly under scale, I believe). Shame that Bachmann didn't upgrade them and add NEM couplings. I bought a couple very cheaply on e-bay last year.

Humbrol color like sleeper grime?
Alcanman replied to Derrick23's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Track colour no 173 is most suitable for sleepers not rail as it is ,essentially, dark brown. I add a little rust no 62 and together the 2 colours give a fair representation of the colour of rail seen on BR. I usually add a little grey to no 173 for sleepers. Generally, I find mixing colours works best. -

Having plenty of time available due to the lockdown, I've made good progress with the layout, which I started building on the 1st March. This portion of the layout is virtually finished, but still plenty of work to do.

Added a stone wall and some bushes along the back of the servicing shed to join up with the low relief warehouse.

There are some Model Scene scenic mats for sale on e-bay at the moment.
