  1. Now, if that was sitting in the Forthcoming Releases display case at Warley we would be drowning in drool. That really looks excellent, the sections of relief all round you've worked on really brings it to life.
  2. Could some kind soul please take a pair of calipers and a ruler to the Schools boiler and give me the outside diameter and length, I have an idea. From the reported shortages, these do seem to be selling well which augers well for not having to subscribe to get the few I want as the series continues.
  3. You might just be able to pull the disc wheels off and replace them with spoked from somewhere (another A4?), but check the axle height allows this without creating a rock. Otherwise it might be a leave it alone jobbie. No useful advice on the swearing issue, you're probably OK so long as its Lincolnshire dialect.
  4. 3ft 6in is the standard, so that's 14mm. Great stuff Jason.
  5. Hi Tony, May I point you in the direction of this part of Ron Hegg's thead http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/28293-manchester-central-clc-gn-warehouses-castlefield-viaducts/?p=296162&fromsearch=1&do=findComment&comment=296162 using a Cameo cutter. Now you might think it's cheating but no more than an etched fret is. You could well find a willing cutter from amongst the ranks.
  6. Will you need a bigger cutter for the window frames then?
  7. Limonene is banned in Canada! Something to do with causing respiratory problems! It seems it cannot be imported for delivery to private residences. I don't know if the B&B will count as a business for importing it as a cleaning agent, but you may be able to get someone to help. It is often sold as d-limonene. There appears to be an orange variety (orangina?) but I ghave no idea if it works the same.
  8. IIRC it was two slices of best white, ham and tomato.
  9. I got issue 1 from Ealing, the stand was to the left of the entrance. I got issue 2 from the Paradise Fields shop near Greenford yesterday.
  10. There's a few of these that interest me as a source for parallel boilers, tenders, the odd detail fitting, but not the whole lot. I would be wanting to buy 4 or 5 of these and not bother with the others. Do these part-works remain on general sale or do they eventually end up as subscription only?
  11. The May 2011 Railway Modeller has a piece by Neil Burgess describing a simple bar and wire inside bearing 6-wheeled chassis that seems to give plenty of room for sideplay.
  12. Avoid lead with PVA, although I think the issue is more prevalent in closed areas. Both thick slow setting superglue and araldite have worked for me on plastic wagon kits.
  13. One more owner on the books, a Portrait arrived yesterday. Only £125 with next day delivery http://www.yolo.co.uk/silhouette-portrait-contour-cutter-1039-p.asp Going back quite a way on this thread there was the issue about drawing rectangles against drawing four lines. Jason, you commented In Mike's Inkscape tutorial rectangles are used all the time. How then do you get a object with sharp corners (not just squares and rectangles) drawn in Inkscape understood by the machine to be a series of lines so the blade lifts rather than turns while embedded in the material?
  14. Good man, Jason, keep the punters happy. Also its good to see you've got a cameo there of someone interested in fencing, an often overlooked detail on many layouts.
  15. Google search on Testors for the UK comes up with only a few suppliers, but it is available. I'm going to do some laminating experiments out of interest with Plastic Weld, Mek Pak, Limonene and any other glue I have squirrelled away. Using up a sheet or two of styrene will be worth it if a conclusion emerges. With a bit of luck I will pick up a Portrait today, I found a supplier based near where I have a meeting this afternoon, but I don't know if they are mail order only. As a side issue, I was planning to go over to a Linux OS because of the withdrawal of support of W98 next month, unfortunately, it looks like Silhouette machines are not fully compatible with Linux.
  16. Excuse me, Jason, but back in mid-February you promised us some more photographs of fencing. What`s with this coach thingy when there`s a ready audience for Lincolnshire boundary joinery!
  17. That is excellent, Mike and thank you for taking us through it. I hope Limonene is indeed the magic bullet against warping, I had some 60 thou twist alarmingly and was starting to think shellac and cardboad might be the only route through this.
  18. I've used wire out-riders in the past and I have heard that corn-plasters do the trick too.
  19. Hi Keith,Try following the topic (button at top right) and then from the choices on the left select 'topics I'm following'. Took me ages to find this method!
  20. deleted as point of joke spiked by the forum`s formatting sotware. I`ll try to find another way. Sorry.
  21. Task Manager isn`t that dangerous in my experience, forcing a close when something has frozen or done a Studio. I can`t remember a problem relaunching afterwards.
  22. As a general point you're right Gaz. But without the experiments of Jason, Mike et al we won't always know what the best options are. Making a master for casting is clearly a viable use for the cutter, and may result in a better result, especially for bulky components. But,there again for (eg) just 4 weird axleboxes is it worth it in time, rubber and resin? Everyone has their favoured techniques and materials and with bespoke etching, 3D printing, home casting and now affordable cutting the are going to be a lot of skinned cats around.
  23. I was intending (hoping) to use Sketchup for drawing preparation as I've used it a fair bit in the past, but this looks much better. Also being 2D there isn't any risk of slipping out of the axis. I really appreciate this tutorial, thank you Mike.
  24. I came across this blog (don't be put off by the title) which is UK-based:- http://ramblingsofababymakingaddict.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/replacement-blades-for-silhouette-cameo.html http://ramblingsofababymakingaddict.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/silhouette-cameo-blades-update.html although it seems cutting depth cannot be set except by eye.
