  1. That’s a relief. For a moment there I thought it was a spanner and a piston.=
  2. What on earth is that on the bottom right bracket?
  3. ... and interlocking them with the signalling? Probably a step too far? Do you use DCC accessory decoders to control your points or do you use a more traditional system? If the former having a circuit breaker on the main bus and separate accessory bus is really useful if, like me, you occasionally drive into a trailing point with the route set against you.
  4. i wouldn’t know... it was P4 my time.
  5. How to settle the 00/EM/P4 war....... It’s a n00se. Sorted.
  6. But this is no longer a photo of your model railway. Use of photo stacking simply improves a photo of what is actually there. As Ian said, this is neither right or wrong but depends on what you aim to achieve. Are you aiming to show your photography/photoshop skills or your model railway. You may be happy with your photography skills, you have done a great job, but you will always know that it isn’t like that on your model railway. You bemoan the quality of figures on layouts so shouldn’t we be striving to improve these on the model, trying to make them look more like your photo ... at normal viewing distance of course... rather than correcting it in photoshop? But, as already said, it’s horses for courses.
  7. Would WD-40 make creative innuendo easier?
  8. Do you not think that it is just a simplistic term used to distinguish between diesel and steam?
  9. ... and not forgetting East Clintwood.
  10. I fear that they are all suffering from long-Covid. Seriously though, it has been nice to see them competing well at times this season rather than pinning our hopes on them being only the second worst team in the league.
  11. ..... seems to be somewhat lacking motivational skills. Or even worse uses them to wind up the up the opposition when he attempts his mind games. Alright, I know you shouldn’t need to motivate your players at International level but something is holding them back. I’m certainly not one of those who think England are entitled to win just by turning up but he does seem to have the knack of making the team a lot less than the sum of its parts.
  12. I think I worded my post badly. The model appeared to be going through the motions of tamping, not actually doing it. Having said that though, since I haven’t even started ballasting yet ...
  13. Do you have the DCC project where the tamper actually ‘tamps’. I saw one in action at Model Rail Scotland back when we could and it looked pretty impressive. I’m not even sure whether it was a one off DCC project or is commercially available though.
  14. We could well end up with another East and West Sussex.
  15. If push comes to shove I will, but mum is still fiercely independent and always likes to (try to) do these things for herself and asks for help only as a last resort and reluctantly at that. This 10 digit reference number is clearly unique because that was all that was needed for them to send out a paper form. So … … ours not to reason why.
  16. My mum, who is 90, tried that line several times and it was always ‘experiencing a large number of calls’ and played her some inane music. She got through once but, as she is quite deaf too, couldn’t understand the automated system. Someone, somewhere hasn’t thought this through. She gave me the reference number from the letter and after not a few calls I managed to get through, key in the reference number and she should get her form through the post. Being of a certain generation she was already starting to chew about the £1000 fine for non completion that is mentioned somewhere in the bumph.
  17. The map function of Traksy.uk is similar and I prefer its layout.
  18. Happy birthday Jonny777 - or more correctly Jonny778 now.
  19. That's the only way you'll get a hole in one.
  20. I recorded the two Dave Allen compilation programs on Saturday night. I’m sure they will be much more interesting and entertaining.
  21. Our son-in-law has just been called for his. He is in his thirties and wasn't sure why he has. He phoned the surgery to check that there hasn't been a mistake and they told him he was on the at risk list. He wasn't aware that he was and queried it. They investigated and rang back to explain. He has a genetic disease, I can't remember its name, but it means that he is prone to growing additional bones in strange places. It can be quite painful as you might imagine and he was undergoing treatment. The treatment was postponed because of Covid and they gave him some medication for the time being. This medication affects his immune system which explains why he is on the at risk list. He was not told and did not know about this (I suppose he should have read the leaflet). I guess this explains why he was affected by Covid much worse than the rest of us were too. In other news: Regarding pensions, having retired early I am wondering whether or not to buy extra years of National Insurance contribution. I have more than 35yrs worth but because I was part of a pension scheme with part opt out I will have a reduced state pension. I need to enquire if the figures mentioned above (£795 or whatever for about £5 a week) are the same for those who have opted out. Cracked the basics of Arduino programming and really enjoying it. Just finished programming a servo operated semaphore signal with bounce. Next will be a basic Theremin
  22. Congratultions Dom, Elise and all the family.
  23. These scams must catch some people out otherwise it wouldn't be worth their while. Unfortunately those likely to be caught out are the most vulnerable and least likely to be able to afford to be caught out. I'm thinking dear old Grannies here. To me the perpetrators are pure scum*. *other pejoratives are available.
