  1. There’s not one particular button to respond to that. So… thanks, informative, supportive, like….. … you get the picture.
  2. Yes, it is down south in Yorkshire, but only just. Warning Trigger alert: Modelling stuff. Please look the other way if easily offended. The layouts are not a part of the original building nor anything to do with the owners and so are not used as a 'selling point'. They are very popular though with those who know that they exist and always cause a 'wow' moment for those who don't. For reasons that I won't go into here there are only two of the layouts open at the moment. Having said that, the house is worth a visit too. I did mention that the builder of the main layout also contributed buildings to Pendon. I like to think his own layout, which was donated to us, is quite Pendonesque too. You decide. Pictures grabbed on phone so don't really do it justice. Yes I did enjoy my day, thank you. I couldn't do any other 'playing' with that.
  3. I can smell the sea tang just looking at those pictures. Wonderful.
  4. Good morning all Shortly I will be off to Ormesby Hall where I volunteer for the National Trust. Ormesby is unique among national trust properties in that it has model railways and my role there involves operating one of these and describing it to the public. Why mention this? Well, our main layout was donated to us by its builder, a man called Ron Rising, who modelled some of the buildings on Pendon. @chrisf’s visit there reminded me of this. Ron duplicated some of his Pendon buildings on this layout and the rest are all to a similar standard. It is a thing of beauty which I feel privileged to be able to operate and talk about. We are a bit out of the way for many here but if ever you are passing and get the chance, it is well worth a visit. Enough of model railways. Have a good day, I know I will.
  5. Les Kellet and The Royal Brothers spring to mind. Always good for a laugh.
  6. You are Sir Humphrey. I claim my £5
  7. Despite my cynicism I was trying to give them credit for what they do.
  8. ….. or just lower that section of wall.
  9. Regarding old buildings, no matter what you say about ‘Spoons’’, and many people do, they seem to treat buildings they have taken over with a good degree of sympathy. Our local one was once a department store and they kept the distinctive windows, the one in Colwyn Bay was once a cinema and you can tell. Keswick Spoons is in the old Courthouse building and has the original cells incorporated. Perhaps it was part of the planning permissions and they were forced to do so, perhaps they felt it the right thing to do, or, in true spoons style, perhaps it was the cheapest option. Whatever the reason, they have preserved many features that may otherwise have been lost.
  10. It must be your dictionary because it’s in mine. It doesn’t show up in any internet searches though.
  11. Look at the old signs just dumped there (next to the caravan). What price now?
  12. That is looking really good, Rob. Did you know that MSE/Wizard models do the signal pulley posts? https://www.wizardmodels.ltd/shop/signals/ls008/
  13. Before RMweb went offline I found myself in a part of Newcastle station I had not been in before and came across this. Quite touching and it is nice to know that they indeed are not forgotten. I am also aware of the monument on the hill above Penmanshiel. Are there others?
  14. Morning all. I had to drop the car at a garage this morning as the boot latch refuses to unlatch and I’m sick of putting things in via a lowered rear seat. Not recommended for someone of my girth. I booked the car in last week, told the garage owner what the fault was and he told me the make of the car. He wasn’t on the computer looking up its service records either. According to him it’s a common fault with this manufacturer. Anyway, after dropping the car off we decided on a cooked breakfast before walking home. It was our first one for I don’t know how long and all the more enjoyable for it. It was just as well we were fortified because the walk home was directly into a strong wind. Fortunately, it was only a couple of miles, which is about all I can manage now since the dreaded lurgy. Knowing my luck, when I go back the wind will have swung through 180. Mutt is now demanding a walk too. No rest for the wicked.
  15. Not necessarily - they are supposed to be bloodless.
  16. Wire strippers Tony? Don't you have a pair of these from the school physics lab? Seriously though, if you are careful they can strip very thin wire.
  17. So nice to see Christian Erickson on the score sheet this afternoon.
  18. The fact that at was April 1st did make me wonder about some of the enquiries I had to deal with.
  19. Morning all Yesterday’s sugar all melted by mid morning but there was quite a heavy frost when mutt and I walked earlier. A reasonably successful time yesterday answering enquiries from the house buyer's solicitor. Only a reasonable success though as quite some time was spent searching for information or documents that we have never had or have been lost in the mists of time. Kudos to Corgi though, two minutes after a phone call giving them the address a copy of the compliance certificate for the boiler pinged into my e-mail inbox with paper version to follow by post. It cost slightly more than afternoon tea at F&M’s and theydidn’t give me any champagne. This afternoon may be spent making up more cranks for the point rodding.
  20. First time I've noticed that 37s have a chimney at the front. May need to add detail to some of mine.
  21. The weather here has developed bipolar disorder.
  22. Morning all. Someone has scattered a load of sugar about outside as an April Fool’s joke. It’s white out there. Today will be spent mostly searching for various documents and answering questions asked by the solicitor for the buyer of mum’s house. That includes going to Corgi to see if the can provide a duplicate certificate for a boiler installed in 2007. Enjoy your holiday @chrisf
  23. I wish you well, but I suspect that many (and in particular those who have large numbers of photographs here) will have neither the time or inclination to go through the process of uploading/replacing them. After Dediserve’s muck* up of both the site and backups might it not be an idea just to accept that ‘we are where we are’ and start afresh with discussions and postings. It is a shame (given other going- ons in the world I hesitate to use the word tragedy which I might otherwise have done) to lose so much that has gone before, but it would be worse still to lose altogether this valuable and informative thread. * other first letters are available.
  24. We would probably break Facebook too.
  25. You are correct. I’ve just had a look back at my thread and there seems no rhyme or reason as to which images are showing and which aren’t. Hopefully it may just be (apart from the last year, which we know about) that the database is still being repopulated/rebuilt.
