  1. If my maths doesn’t let me down that’s…. err …. a fair few drill bits.
  2. We received an ‘underpaid postage’ card in December and it being the run up to Christmas decided to pay it assuming something like this had happened with a Christmas card. It did indeed turn out to be a Christmas card but had no postage paid on it at all. It was from the local Hospice, a charity we regularly support. I suppose that’s one way of saving money but I guess someone just forgot to put them through the franking machine. Probably.
  3. The first two photos in the first link were enough for me. Thanks for the links.
  4. ... and while we are talking about spoons standing up... ... this weekend's broth.
  5. The sun is always over the yard arm somewhere in the world. Problem solved.
  6. The road from Glenshee down to Breamar and other roads in the Balmoral area were always a pleasure to drive.
  7. Maplin and before that Tandy/Radio Shack weren't always the cheapest compared to 'industrial size' suppliers but they weren't that silly expensive either. More importantly they were convenient and there when you needed things like this. Before Maplin expanded onto the High Street I used to look forward to their yearly catalogue.
  8. If any one does want ties I, like Baz, have loads lying about unused. Be warned though, that most of them have very colourful Disney characters on them. Or are in Sunderland colours with the club badge. Sadly, like the only pair of polished shoes I now have, the tie the gets used almost exclusively these days is black.
  9. Some (most?) schools have been ‘gaming’ the exam systems for years to ensure that their data satisfied Ofsted and in turn the local press. Toward the end of my career there were an awful lot of staff who believed that if you trained your pupils to answer the exam questions and they got a grade C (pass) then it was for them you were doing the service rather than the school. I suppose to a certain extent that was true as x number of passes were the key to further education, training and possibly jobs. How much educating and understanding was taking place was debatable. It was difficult for an individual to ‘fight’ against such a system that attached so much kudos to a good Ofsted report and even more stigma to a bad one. I think things were just starting to turn away from that approach a little bit when I retired. I don’t know what the situation is like now.
  10. I prefer to avoid ‘the main’ roads as much as I can. Otterburn and Carter Bar instead of the A1. Then if I’m going up the middle Glen Eagles (the Glen as well as the town). Crieff and the Sma’ Glen rather than the A9. There’s less of a choice if you are heading up the west side. It is much more relaxing and enjoyable doing it this way. Until all those 20 signs appeared that is. I think I still prefer it though, in the same way I go out of my way to avoid motorways and trunk roads here unless needs must.
  11. Whatever was chosen they would still insist on having that ruddy soprano sing it.
  12. How come the Welsh*, Scots, Irish, French and Italians are quite capable of singing their National Anthems but the English need some Prima Donna soprano. * Alright, the Welsh have a male voice choir or two but that’s traditional and adds too rather than detracts.
  13. Flippin’ eck. Or words to that effect. I need some 20mm T2.5A fuses. Preferably ceramic but not essential. £2.59 for 10 on Amazon. Thinking about the postage and wait, I thought I would have a look at Screwfix. They have fuses that size but Worcester Bosch labelled and with a replacement part number for their boilers. £27.99 for 10. Can fuses differ that much in spec. and tolerances? Like I said, Flippin’ eck. Off to do more searches.
  14. When we were driving up in Scotland shortly after covid restrictions relaxed it seemed that every little village, small settlement or even individual roadside houses had a new 20 mph limit applied.
  15. One lives in hope. Worcester Wasps anyone?
  16. It probably was the same quote as I'm convinced they just act as a broker for the insurance side of things.
  17. Thoughts are with you and yours, Phil.
  18. I have ordered her a set of new filters for ours. I will probably wrap them nicely.
  19. Just as well you weren't hoovering then - you might have been Dyson with death.
  20. If I had 50p for every time I failed a maths exam I’d have at least £7.80 by now.
  21. The only thing I remember about Latin were that the two books Civis Romanus, a reader, and its associated Mentor invariably had their covers graffitied to make Elvis Romanus and Cementor.
  22. Where’s the challenge in that.
  23. Good grief. We are all class correspondents in a divorce case.
