  1. Edit: Sorry, missed the word wide. Have this one instead. Next up: A Fort
  2. A year and a half into retirement* I sometimes manage to lie in until 7. But mostly not. Still, it means I have the paper read, puzzles completed (that's the mental exercises of the day done) and a third dose of caffeine before I would have, in the past, started work. * and the layout is still nowhere near the end of the beginning.
  3. Should have just made a cat flap
  4. I lost my internet connection last night and so spent some time talking to Mrs BoD. I was amazed to find out she no longer works at Woolworths.
  5. I'm sure you will make a fine pair of legs.
  6. Then you must persuade Track Shack to stock them so that I can have them delivered the next morning.
  7. Watching Flying Scotsman over Ribblehead on Friday? Seriously, as a lad from the Land of the Prince Bishops I have a certain pride, but I must admit to many wonderful days spent in North Yorkshire. I'm sure they are delicious but Craster kippers fresh from the smokehouse .... no contest. Track laying for station throat finished today. What, who said that? Not me, Debs.
  8. Sometimes it's the way you tell them though.
  9. Chin up, DD. When it's in your nature help others, as you do so often, things are bound to catch up with you at times. Have an enjoyable, restful holiday when the time comes.
  10. Congratulations, Dom and Elise.
  11. It's not the best likeness, is it? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-39434585
  12. Mungo Jerry wasn't it?

    EBay madness

What? You owned a Daily Mail? You lucky thing, you.
  14. That's a group of nine or more trainspotters then.
  15. Mrs BoD has not yet noticed that the glossing has been done. I was right to lack confidence in it.
  16. I have just seen a couple of photographs of the tackle in last night's Ireland/Wales game that resulted in the broken leg. I'm not surprised that they didn't show replays on TV. They photos turned my stomach. I hope both players recover, both physically and mentally.
  17. Morning all I did a bit of gloss painting earlier. We bought the paint a couple of weeks ago, I prefer traditional gloss but there was only the choice of non-drip or quick dry gloss. I chose the quick dry. When I had finished I automatically put the brush into a jar of white spirit. The spirit remained totally clear, nothing, not even after swirling the brush and pressing it against the sides. I checked the paint tin and the instructions said wash in water. Water cleaned the brush no problem, but, water based gloss paint? What's that all about? Am I so out of touch with new materials? I will wait until it is dry before commenting but I don't have much confidence.
  18. Yes, I was mistaken and have edited the post above. Sorry.
  19. I was under the impression that you had to be 'currently serving' to be able to sign passport applications. I have done a few without any follow up but the passport office did once phone the school and insist that a colleague be called from his lesson so that they could verify that he was who he said he was and that he had signed the passport form. In other matters, clear blue sky here but it is very windy - and it's a cold wind too. Edit: Just checked - 'retired from' is acceptable. My mistake, perhaps I was thinking of must have a non-expired passport
  20. I hope you exclaimed "Ah, stoles".
  21. There is a half page photo of Departmental 52 in the December/January issue (no. 222) of Modern Locomotives Illustrated - Departmental Locomotives.
  22. This evening's earworm, Crocodile Shoes. How embarrassing. I've definitely gone off whoever mentioned Jimmy Nail earlier.
  23. Re posts in another topic. Please continue posting your photos and updates here when you can. They are a joy and inspiration.
  24. Morning all. Thoughts with Rick.
