  1. My wife just stopped and said, "Do you ever suffer from deja vu?"
  2. Not unlike the state of my workbench.......... except my plastic strip in in a Laphroaig tube.
  3. I have just watched Wasps play a rugby match at the Ricoh arena, Coventry. Is that the same arena where Coventry City play? I thought the pitch in pretty poor condition for a rugby pitch. I fell sorry for anyone having to play football on it.
  4. A thing of great beauty. The semaphores, that is.
  5. Evening all. I think the new PC is up to speed and I have managed to reinstall all of the software and files that I need. I have tweaked settings, network etc so that it is working in very much the same way that the old one did except that it is of course now Windows 10. I'm getting used to that, I'm sure everything is there, just in different places and sometimes in different formats to the older versions. Just waiting to check that the scheduled backup runs tonight and that's about it. And in other news..... It snowed today. Sadly though only after I had been out for my walk. I enjoy walking in snow.
  6. Is this a 'light the blue touchpaper and retire to a safe distance' moment?
  7. I don't know.It looks like it's about to roll to me.
  8. Morning all. As pointed out in one of this morning's papers. A firm wants to build a long zip wire in the Lake District but the Lake District doesn't want it. Boris wants to bridge the English Channel.................
  9. I walked down a street today and noticed the houses were numbered 128k, 256k, 512k and 1Mb. It was Memory Lane.
  10. Some excellent modelling and photographs here. Glad you moved it across and I found it. Definitely one to follow.
  11. Yes, thanks Tony. I still managed to muck it up though. I will have a look at it again this morning. Morning all. A light covering of snow. Enough to perhaps half cover a hobbit's toes. Lorries struggling on some local roads. End of the world is apparently nigh.
  12. I bought a desktop PC and I'm starting to get the hang of Windows 10. Having said that most of today was spent twiddling thumbs whilst it installed updates. I have a laptop which lives in the loft and is dedicated to controlling the layout. I don't have a Mac, dirty or otherwise. The one thing I can't seem to do at the moment is redirect the user folder to a different location. Even following online instructions has uneXpected results. It was easy in Windows 7. JohnDMJ: I did play about with Ubuntu a while ago and may return to Linux at some point. Goodnight all.
  13. Evening all I bit the bullet and bought a new computer as it was the motherboard that had failed. Windows 10 appears to be a huge curate's egg. At the moment there is more to dislike than there is to like. It seems to want to take control rather that giving me the option. Things may improve as I get used to it. Time will tell.
  14. Perhaps we should petition for a blue plaque at your local tip.

    EBay madness

I think the price asked here may be a bit over optimistic too. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PECO-Streamline-Railway/152729913118?_trkparms=aid%3D888007%26algo%3DDISC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D49129%26meid%3D160d77f39be844f38afaa9e040255d6e%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D173092138457&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982
  16. Does anyone understand those Paddy Power adverts? Having said that, they've got me mentioning them so they have worked to that extent.
  17. And there are some as shouldn't be allowed on Twitter either. No names mentioned, of covfefe.
  18. Have tried most of that thanks. Even swapped HDDs then tried a Linux bootable DVD. Nothing. PCworld (I know, I know) do a free diagnostic service and then, if you choose, a flat rate £60 plus parts no fix no fee repair. I may just bite the bullet and buy new - but the hassle of reinstalling everything is putting me off. Arggghhh!!
  19. Oh, balderdash and other rude words. My main computer has just given up the ghost. All fans are working as expected and the CD drawer opens and closes but non of the LEDs that indicate power or operation light up. And obviously it isn't functioning. One of fans is powered from the motherboard so some power is getting through. I can't tell if it is trying to read the hard drive to start up because I installed a solid state disc for the OS a good time ago but the fact that non of the LEDs come on suggest it might not be even getting that far. Other than checking the obvious I don't have the skills to investigate further. I don't have a spare power supply to check the different outputs from that and even with my meter I'm not sure what I am looking for on the old one. Perhaps I should just pick it up and drop it slightly. I don't mind buying a new one if necessary but I'm quite happy with Windows 7 and dread to think how long it will take to install software and get a new one to a similar state to the old one. At least it doesn't sound like the hard drives and I have everything backed up so that is not an issue. That'll teach me not to post facetious remarks about Macs, eh?
  20. Morning all. It was dark but dry when I went for the paper a couple of hours ago. Fortunately I live within a brisk walk of a newsagent that still opens at 6:30. I look forward to Saturday as it takes me most of the morning, a bacon sandwich and at least three cups of coffee to read all of the sections of the paper. There is also a healthy dose of quizzes, puzzles and a crossword to keep the brain ticking over. It's just a pity that gone are the days when the local fish shop would swap a pile of old newspapers for a bag of chips. Have a good a weekend as circumstances allow.
  21. After all this we expect a fully working layout and you playing off a low single figure, if not scratch. ............and all by Christmas.
  22. I always understood that Macs didn't need updates and there were never any security issues and they were perfect in every way and.......
  23. It's on their bucket list.
  24. This one is sound fitted. The lighting and sound project as developed by Legomanbiffo is very impressive indeed. A second one would be useful as they did/do split and join at Crianlarich. You swine Baz, you.
  25. Oh, forgot to say, parcel was with number 3 the only neighbour who doesn't go out of heir way for others. The rest would all have noticed our return and have called around fairly quickly. That aside the parcel contained a long awaited Scotrail 156 from Charlie Petty. The model is superb.
