  1. Today is my daughter's wedding anniversary. She and our son in law booked a few days in a lodge with a hot tub to celebrate. Unfortunately the lodge they booked is in the middle of the red snow alert in central Scotland. They are snowed in and have had no water since this morning. The hot tub is still working though.
  2. I haven't processed the shots from my camera yet but here is a quick one from my phone This is what happens when we get an easterly over here. There is quite a high 'bar' of water between the two piers. It has to be quite bad for snow to lie on the actual dockside. Looking at the sky can you guess what happened next. Looking out of the window earlier - no bbq tonight I guess. I wonder if we will have a full hemisphere on the table before the end.
  3. So even if you met those ladies from Consett...........................
  4. I'm down on the seafront with my camera watching the waves come over the pier and lighthouse. Blowing a hoolie and occasional blizzards. Loving it - although my chest isn't what it used to be. I guess my serious winter mountaineering days are over.
  5. A bit different this morning though, no problem finding deep snow, not here at least. Stay safe.
  6. You have to feel for them a little bit, standing there saying how bad things are with little or no snow in sight. I felt quite sorry for Ben Ando on the lunchtime news.
  7. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but if you have a spare buzzer/bell and battery, connect them across the bus whilst you are wiring. If you try to connect something the wrong way you get an audible warning.
  8. If perceived wisdom says don't eat yellow snow what does it tell you about amber stuff? The last time I remember the wind moving seriously to the East was 1978. We had 8ft drifts. Just saying.
  9. Mary Poppinjays The fawn hunter. The Silent Man Four weddings and a full recovery. The unhatched eggs. Let Carter go. The good, the good and the good.
  10. Great show. Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's visit with some super layouts on display. So good that, even though I was there for a good while, I missed some layouts and didn't give some others the time they deserved. Well done to all concerned...... ....... but blimey, that ink on the pass out stamp is good stuff. It will do for next year at this rate.
  11. Why did you taste your laundry?
  12. The Dull Glow with the iconic "Here's John-boy" scene.
  13. Sweet dreams on Elm Street. Edward Nailclipperhands. Saturday the 14th.
  14. Evening all. My legs and I are very tired* after a long but most enjoyable day at Model Rail Scotland. Sadly, and for obvious reasons, I didn't meet up with Mal for a chat this year but we have agreed to do so next year. Having missed some layouts and not given some others the attention they deserved I think my legs and I might try for a two day visit next year. Having clan members living not too far away should make it relatively easy (and cheap). Haven't had a chance to catch up but will have a quick read back tomorrow in case I have missed anything of import. * other expressions are available.
  15. Perhaps that is why the Vatican tried to get in touch.
  16. That struck me after I replied. Well, it was late.
  17. But if it is one particular section or dropper that is causing the short, the short will disappear when you disconnect from the bus then you can concentrate on that speaker lead, droppers and area of track work.
  18. The local press are doing another cheap Northern Rail Rover ticket promotion. The Cumbrian Coast line definitely beckons.
  19. A old friend, my best man, studied in London and I seem to remember him living in (or is it on) Strawberry Hill. Perhaps he lived in the flat above Rick. But then again probably not.
  20. If I read your description correctly you have various lengths of speaker cables running from the bus to groups of droppers. Can you disconnect speaker cables from the bus one at a time to try and find which set is causing the problem. Or is the whole of this section fed from one set of speaker cables from the bus?
  21. I don't know how I ever managed without mine, everything was just a muffled noise before. I don't care what it looks like, being able to hear people talk and listen to music clearly again is worth it. Plus, if I ever have to talk to Mrs BoD I can just turn them off.
  22. Hi Ian. I too am struggling with the shape of the West Highland roof. The rest of the building looks good especially if it was your first effort. I think the tiles look very effective. Can I ask which ones you used for this roof.
  23. Have you fully isolated the two halves ,fishplates etc., not just dividing the bus? How have you connected the droppers to the bus, is there plenty of physical separation between the two bus wires?
  24. The rest of us just call them incontinence pants.
