  1. I thought it was very nice of them to say that they missed me. It's more than the missus ever says.
  2. This topic is for photographs of models. There is a prototype section for photos of the real thing.
  3. High Wapping Sidings, Carlisle Any more with glint?
  4. Did you hear about the man who boiled a Hyena? He made himself a laughing stock.
  5. A few years ago I was at the station in Pisa. I was amazed at the amount of graffiti on all of the trains.
  6. Evening all I took advantage of an offer in the local rag and bought a Northern Rail Rover for today for the princely sum of £10. For that price I travelled from the East Coast along the Tyne Valley line to Carlisle then around the Cumbrian Coast line to Barrow. I offered thoughts for Simon as I passed through St Bees and looked out for NHN but the IOM was hidden in a grey murk. As I hadn't done it before I continued from Barrow to Lancaster mostly around the sands of Morecombe Bay. From there it was back to Carlisle and home. I would have liked to fit in the Settle andCarlisle line too, but that will have to wait for another day. From river to coast, from Lakeland fells to salt marshes and sand flats, what a beautiful and varied country we live in.
  7. .......... and you certainly couldn't describe the English batsmen as long standing.
  8. The Band of the Coldstream Guards has been around a while. Not sure if it's the original members though.
  9. In BR Diesel Ttaction in Scotland by George O'Hara there is a photo of 47469 with a train of 2 molasses tanks and a rake of agricultural lime in 1988.
  10. Coming to a screen near you soon....... RMweb personality test. I'm ok though, I had my personality surgically removed years ago.
  11. I remember a walk in the Lake District that included the path around Blea Tarn. It was late winter and there were just the two of us when suddenly we heard the sound of a lone piper. We eventually spotted him far up on the side of a fell playing his slow lament and to this day we still don't know why he was there. Blea Tarn is in a bit of a hollow and the sound of the pipes echoed around the fell sides and seemed to fill the whole valley...... it was both a haunting and moving experience.
  12. I may have mentioned it before - there is a pub near Northallerton called The Cat and Bagpipes. I've no idea how the name might have originated other than perhaps when placed under the arm and squeezed hard they both sound the same.
  13. I spent the first fifty odd years of my life trying to avoid having my photograph taken. Quite successfully too. Then they went and stuck cameras on b!uddy phones.
  14. You learn something new everyday. I always thought the Northumbrian pipes were bellows blown.
  15. Once hookers had learned to count high enough to understand the calls.
  16. Very good. Haven't heard that one before. (but what a strange way to start a conversation)
  17. An FA Cup tie on a Saturday night? What's that all about? There are going to be a lot of disgruntled fans having to travel back to the South Coast after the game. Brighton fans might be cheesed off too.
  18. I think you are going to have to work a bit more on your delivery.
  19. Download and follow the instructions from the website. I have recently set up a Sprog3 and the instructions were helpful and comprehensive.
  20. KCS..... SBT...... GSD.... GDB...... it's all very confusing.
  21. J5643: Is that one for the 'prototype for everything' thread?
  22. Nope, can't see it, your network must still be down. One of my favourite voices was John Arlott. Although it is what he was best remembered for, he was more than just a sports commentator. I'm not sure how you would describe his voice but it was wonderfully evocative.
  23. .......... and it seems strange that it is only older people who reach milestones like their 40th and 50th anniversaries.
