  1. I wasn’t going to go to Warley this weekend. Now… I’m definitely not going to Warley this weekend.
  2. It is good that it is only may and at some stage. I understand that if another stroke is going to follow a minor stroke it is likely within 90 days. All these mays and likelys must still be very worrying, especially after Sherry’s surgery, but I see positives in your statement too. I sincerely hope am right.
  3. In the past I have looked at quite a few model car after market websites and have found a number of headlights and thought ‘wow, that’s perfect’. Then I checked the scale. They don’t seem to produce stuff in anything close to 1/76, 4mm or whatever you want to call it. Could I live with something a bit over scale? I might order a pack (they are only a few pounds) and see how they look.
  4. You mean Cnut …. Patron Saint of dyslexics.
  5. Mine looks similar …. on January 1st … and it usually lasts as long as all my other resolutions.
  6. I do like the way you have managed to incorporate a Hornby advertising sign.
  7. For those users of L-space … has anyone come across my soldering iron yet?
  8. Wouldn’t your feet get wet? Seriously … ambitious and fascinating projects here. Please do start topics on them when they get underway.
  9. Comparing greys has always been fraught with dangers. Remember the optical illusions from school or elsewhere? Cover the middle line of the upright block with your finger…
  10. Sorry to hear about Lucy. From what you have said in the past we know that you care about all dogs and yours in particular. We are sure that she will receive the best possible love and care, whatever her future holds.
  11. Yes, it definitely gets late early. But worry not, in a month it starts getting early later again.
  12. I always think of Don at this time of year. Like many ERs we never actually met but I thought of him as a personal friend. Such is the way with ERs
  13. … and for supper a good slice of cold shoulder.
  14. Gosh, how many times have I met that very pose when getting in late from the pub. Of course, that was in days of yore. Now I am a paragon of virtue.
  15. As DaveF has already said, the Freeman. First infant heart transplant in this country and first single and double lung transplant in Europe. They are still highly rated. Some even have sheds … and as for the dark skies the Milky Way and even Jupiter can cast shadows.
  16. No guarantee that you will get it back though.
  17. Is that on field passion reflected by the supporters? Is there a ‘derby day’ atmosphere over and above that of other matches? I’m genuinely interested in what happens elsewhere. Certainly, although it has been described as such by the media, Newcastle v Sale just isn’t a derby game.
  18. I think if you just pointed the phone camera at a QR code so that the code filled most of the screen, the phone would sort it out for you ... whether you wanted it to or not.
  19. Earlier this year in Keswick none of the payment machines were able to read cards, although they went through the process of trying to. Apparently this is is occurring in an increasing number of areas where the 3G signal has been turned off. The parking meter, which is based on 3G technology can't talk to your bank to verify the payment. Some councils are saying that they can't afford/don't want to update all of their meters to 4 or 5G and are insisting that people start using Apps to pay. There was only one meter in the whole carpark that took cash. Guess what the queue at that meter was like. I fortunately had enough change to pay but I know there were quite a few disgruntled people there. I understand too, that there has been no agreement on standardisation of apps, so in theory you could have to download an app for each carpark you use, if you decided that you are willing to pay that way. I’m not too sure I’m happy about doing it that way anyway. As for calling the phone number given to pay for parking - you are joking. I tried this once and had no success in entering card details via the keypad. By the time I had eventually heard the instructions (I'm quite hard of hearing) and then switched to the keypad on the phone I was trying to hold my card in one hand and the phone in the other and enter the details. The system obviously got tired of waiting and hung up. I'm guessing that was almost a rant.
  20. Print out the function key overlay and … err…. over lay it. You don’t need anything else.
  21. I have got built in obsolescence. It’s called dying However, I hope that, like vinyl records, I come back into vogue a few years down the line.
  22. I see that the Premiership are trying to sell this weekend as ‘Derby Weekend’. I’m not sure that a derby in rugby has the same ‘oomph’ as one of the traditional football derbies. As a footballer follower too I used to get very nervous when my team played against our local ‘rivals’ although that hasn’t happened for a few seasons now, but one can always live in hope. During the match passions were at an amazingly high level. The atmosphere was always unbelievable. Being from the northern rugby outpost I honestly don’t know if such a passionate rivalry exists in these rugby ‘derby’ matches. I know that the ridiculous friction that often occurs between rival football fans doesn’t happen in rugby, it’s a much more friendly experience, but does that ‘derby passion’ exist or is it something that the ‘powers that be’ are trying to push? I’m sure some here can enlighten me.
  23. I was thinking more along the lines of ‘sheesh, there’s even a kettle on the top level there’. Anyway, that goods train was just splendid.
  24. Agreed. If you do manage to get a seat that doesn’t involve a degree in contortionism and a broken neck to look out of a window all you get to see is overgrown shrubbery.
  25. Ah, I’ve met a bit that wizzed around but had a reference hole not line. Before you read what follows, you must understand that I am the most technically inept person you will have ever met but I do have a very logical mind. I can spot the difference between left and right (it’s binary, you see) but ask me to put my right slipper on the correct foot …. Anyway, a good friend once, many years ago and just once, asked me to help set the timing or some such other technical thing on a car. He was to do the technical bits and I was to lend an occasional hand where three were needed but mainly decipher the manual and give instructions. All went well until just after we opened the bonnet. You see, it was a Lada and the instructions were translated from the Russian. We had to find this wheel thing that whizzed round, find a hole in it and then push a screwdriver through the hole to align it at the top. It didn’t say at the top of what or what type of screwdriver to use but we managed. Then came the interesting bit. We had to set the gap to miximum. Yep, miximum, that’s what the manual said. Now, all those clever technical people among you will say, “ah yes, should say maximum” but then me being logical says “but, equally it could read minimum”. So we ‘’ad a a cup of tea” and got it wrong. For those who say well that’s his fault for buying a Lada, it was his dad’s car. His was a 2CV6
