  1. Today I discovered that when a rake of uncoupled wagons is hit hard enough, the basic principles of Newton’s cradle apply. Even in 4mm scale. Just saying.
  2. I hope you don’t see this as offensive or negative but it looks odd to me because the outer walls are far from a regular circle. I know it is a many sided polygon but wasn’t the overall shape more or less a circle. Should the overall shape be an annulus, two concentric circles? For me it is that ‘off centre’ shape of the outer circle that makes it look odd. Given the space limitation, and the need to fit particular locos, I’m not sure what you can do about it. Mirrors in the far walls? Probably wouldn’t need to be angled as the operators viewing height would provide the angle to allow them to see into near roads.
  3. I have visited both and enjoyed both. I’m not sure why people seem to have such a ‘downer’ on them.
  4. … not without a drop or two of whisky. Just to be on the safe side.
  5. I’m doing a Shakshuka tray bake mainly to use up some tomatoes and a couple of peppers that were starting to go soft. This is a vegetarian version but I do occasionally include chorizo or something similar. I recently saw a recipe for a Highland version that included Stornoway black pudding and haggis. I’m tempted to give it a go sometime. I never used to cook but since I was diagnosed top end pre diabetic I started cooking recipes from the UK diabetes website. I’m definitely no ID but enjoy doing what I do. Plus it is helping keep things under control. Enjoy your evening people.
  6. That gave me a huge chuckle. Cheered me up no end. Thanks
  7. Just like the err… prototype then.
  8. Don’t forget to walk down the South Bailey to Prebends bridge and along the river to Framwellgate bridge. One of the best views in the World. Special kudos if any one can quote Sr Walter Scott’s inscription.
  9. And a very, very good evening to you too. It has just got so much better knowing that you are still keeping an eye on us all.
  10. It can be very frustrating. A victim of its own success, although as you (and others regularly) say, it should not be beyond the wit of humans or the grasp of technology to sort it. I have often left this very place without fully reading it or posting* because of the ridiculous delay.** * good! I hear many of you say. ** probably still beats the Royal Mail. Only just, at times, though.
  11. For the third year in a row life has conspired against me attending the exhibition at the Nissan Social club facility. Curdyturses. This is becoming a bit of a drag actually. I volunteer with the NT on Sundays* and Saturdays usually prove to be quite busy. Saturdays at exhibitions tend to be more crowded too, roads are busier etc, so the only exhibitions I have been to over the last couple of years have been Model Rail Scotland, which usually, neatly, ties in with family events, and York on the Monday. I really enjoy exhibitions so need to try to address this before I get out of the habit. * I enjoy this too, so it is swings and roundabouts
  12. Do wish her many happy returns from us on the day.
  13. I don't think there was anyone in the town who didn't know at least one of the men or their families.
  14. Sadly, and tragically, as has happened on more that one occasion, no-one. That is why the deserve out utmost respect.
