Hi Martyn,

I don't believe that either layout has appeared in the model railway press per se.

However both appear extensively in Iain Rice's book Creating Cameo Layouts with Longwood Edge being a collaborative effort between Iain and Don Leeper.

An ultra quick breakdown, load and trip home for Leysdown and its three operators - now to unload in the sunshine.

And then a well earned pint of Bishops Finger!

As featured in April's Railway Modeller to coincide with the York Show - we present Leysdown, a portrayal of the Sheppey Light Railway terminus in P4.

Across Vicarage Road from the yard I had been looking about adding a house as shown on the Google images in Saturday’s post.  Looking again at the  area on the layout along with prototype pictures of the house, it was clear that the changes to the geography in order to get the location to fit the space available are preventing a model of the real building.   However the place filler that I have been using looks a pretty good fit (its actually based on the station masters house from Sandford & Barnwell borrowed from Kites Croft).  It will need a window adding to one side (along with adding stonework to that wall), and a repaint into a whitewashed finish (something I am unsure how best to paint).  I will likely also try to add a crude interior given the closeness of all those windows to the front of the layout.

Hi Geoff,

I thought so when making the original posting which is why the entry has it as being "exhibited" by the N Gauge Society. The layout list is as given to me by the Exhibition Manager and as such has the layout forming part of the N Gauge Society stand. Unfortunately the information given makes no mention of the Bentley MRG but does have the layout as being ex Grahame Hedges - the original builder.

I have updated the OP and the CMRA website exhibition page to reflect ownership by the Bentley MRG.

On the door Admission charge is £10 per Adult. Up to two children, aged 5 to 15 will be admitted FREE with each paying adult. Charge for additional or unaccompanied children is £4.

where advance £8 Adult tickets and £4 Child tickets can be purchased. There is no booking fee. A charge of £1 will be made per transaction if tickets are to be posted.

The venue is situated only a couple of hundred yards from Stevenage's main shopping area and offers a town centre location with the benefits of good transport links and car parking.

For those coming by public transport the railway station is literally just over the road and is joined to the venue and town centre by a pedestrian bridge. Services are mainly operated by Great Northern, lying on the route from London King's Cross to Peterborough & Cambridge. The station is also served by trains between London and Letchworth via Hertford North. The bus station is also close, less than a minutes walk away.

For those travelling by car the venue is on the dual carriageway A602 which is easily accessed by two junctions on the A1(M), one from the north and one from the south, with an estimated 5 minute travelling time from the motorway. The Leisure Centre is to the east of the railway station and has several ground level car parks. A little further away are the town's multi-storeys.

The rates vary for the car parks shown with the most expensive ones being the two railway station ones - marked as RS and RN.

If you wish to keep your car parking charges to a minimum it is best to visit on the Sunday where the rate for all the car parks - except for the railway station ones - is currently £2.00 for all day.

Note the one marked P is reserved for exhibitors on the Saturday and Sunday.

Please note the very large car parks to the west of the station - off the plan to the left - are for the Leisure Park, not the Leisure Centre, and although free for users of the Park will attract a PCN with a charge of £100 should you leave your car there and walk over the footbridge to the station and the exhibition venue.

Not yet in WH Smith at London Bridge today - which is usually one of the first to have it on their shelves.

De Graafstroom which as well as the most votes in the Public vote also picked up the Keith Nock Memorial Trophy as the favourite layout of members, exhibitors and  the trade.

The layout from the Netherlands measures some 12ft long with a scenic section 10ft  wide into the wings (7ft opening) x 3ft 10in deep.

The baseboard on the right, which is sitting in the lid of the transportation box, is lifted up and goes on top of the board on the left, sitting on its four peg feet.

The lid is then put on and the whole thing then lifted onto the roof rack on the car - total weight box and layout is 35kg.

The box has proved to be very watertight given the weather on Friday!

Two of the layouts appearing at the show,  Blueball Summit and Midland in Bristol, feature heavily in the latest edition of Model Railway Journal (MRJ 274) which has just been published.

Also Bottom Works Sidings appears in the Cameo Gems feature and elsewhere.

There may be a few copies of MRJ 274 on sale at the show for those who don't have it on subscription and can't wait to find it in a WH Smiths - that is if the exhibitors don't beat you to them!

Another layout appearing at Uckfield is October's Continental Modeller's Railway of the Month - De Graafstroom.

Built by Vincent de Bode and two friends the layout will be making its first trip to the UK from Holland.

Vincent is probably better known in the UK for his GER P4 layout Flintfield.

The layout is built to P87 standards using 12.26mm gauge track to represent the prototypes 3ft 6in gauge.

Featuring various animations including the sailing barge, swan, lifting bridge and of course the sound fitted trains this will be one to see.
