  1. Sorry Jonny, I hadn't twigged that you'd actually seen 852 "in the open" so to speak. It has pretty much has sealed it for me, the two warships behind 856 are 807 and 852 (caveat emptor).Neil
  2. Returning to yesterday's debate on Warships - noticed this on eBay today, D854 at Newton Abbott, in 1969 what a wonderful shot. Edit - assuming this is the right end 854 has data panels above the number, not like my photo. 852 therefore still favourite. If 852 was in store, wouldn't it have been in the old works shed, I remember D1014 plus a few others being put in store there a bit later? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=111589185742 Neil
  3. I like you Jonny only started taking notice in 1974 when I formally started spotting. That summer most of my Hymek sightings were on coal and parcels traffic to and from South Wales through Bristol Parkway. We need a 1974 WTT to find out what 8A87 was. Neil
  4. This post from Brian suggests 8A87 originated in South Wales, 1972 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/380-on-this-day-in-history/?p=781494 Neil
  5. Maybe again though Paul if the D6358 project is successful, I hope it is - I've bought some of their goods to support. I only saw 806 at Swindon at her end, along with 824 in January 1975, the last two to be cut (excepting 818 of course which went in the 1980s). Neil
  6. Good morning hydraulic fans First up this morning is a couple of photos of D1028 Western Hussar First light engine at Castle Cary on 29th December 1971 Then at Plymouth North Road in September 1975, on the 4M05 1240 Penzance-Crewe parcels service Next 806 Cambrian at Redhill - we were discussing M25 Stone trains and warships only yesterday - this one is light engine too D7038 at Thingley junction, which seems to have been taken on the same day as the D1066 and D1032 photos upthread. And finally a splash of colour D7016 in company of one of her late surviving sisters at Old Oak common in May 1974 Neil
  7. Thanks for posting D6331 Peter. I think I've mentioned before but your book in the 1980s was one of the first to tempt me to have a go at detailing diesels, a classic. Neil
  8. Wow thanks - I'd scoured the web and this hadn't surfaced. I have a GBL Midland compound, the tender of which was going to be donated but that's a much better option. Neil
  9. And Robert has shots of the roof grilles of the first D800s which lacks the walkways - they look very strange without them. Neil
  10. Agreed an amazing piece of detective work. Phil if you PM me your email I'll send a high resolution TIF file of 856. Neil
  11. Yes something D8X7 - and it does look like a 42- there's no raised roof fans. Neil
  12. Zoomed in- not sure it helps, but the green Warship sure looks like a 43. Neil
  13. I've looked through my 1977 logs recently of Westerns still in service around Bristol in January and February that year. My last service trains included D1022 (on a BNS-South West service) and D1023 (on Stratford-Danygraig Freightliner). Will edit for dates and service identification when I get back to Plymouth on Monday where the logs are. Neil
  14. The Trojan slide is labelled "Circa 1969" so could be a few years earlier- will need to look and see when D856 went blue. Neil
  15. I sometimes smell of salt and vinegar crisps too Peter Neil
  16. A very historic shot Phil! Just wish I knew the other Warships in the photo though. Neil
  17. Good morning Some more photos today First class 43, 856 Trojan at Newton Abbott in 1969 A broadside view of D7046 at Bristol Bath road, July 1964 D1063 Western Monitor at Bodmin road on ballast train, 1st August 1973 D1056 Western Sultan at Temple Meads, date unknown but between September 1967 and April 1971 based on livery. One of my only colour maroon full yellow panel photos, a recent acquisition, still needing attention of photoshop to colour defects in the slide. Finally an unknown Hymek at the wonderful Avoncliff halt, near Bath in the Avon valley- the nearby Cross guns pub was a favourite haunt of mine when it was owned by a butcher- the steaks were amazing. In the 1990s there was a huge waiting list, and you needed to book weeks, if not months in advance to get a table - not the case anymore sadly. Neil
  18. Well I'm resurrecting this thread rather than start a new one. I've just acquired a DJH S&DJR 7F (1914 batch) with a Deeley tender, but with some damage to the tender (which includes two steps missing). I've contacted DJH and they won't (rather annoyingly) provide an after sales service for a secondhand model (?), so does anyone know of a supplier of said steps for a Deeley tender as per attached to a 7F? Neil
  19. Pretty route though through Abergavenny and the Marches, Hereford et al., ghosts of hydraulics in the railway infrastructure though. Neil
  20. Ah yes indeed it is! This thread is rapidly correcting errors written on the slides (not by me!). Neil
  21. Good morning, travelling through to Chester this afternoon (by train) which will be fun, via Newport. But some quick uploads. Most have been posted before on a rather old thread in a previous incarnation of RMweb, but nice here for completeness. First to follow the image of D1032 is D1066 Western Prefect (for some reason rarely photographed) at Thingley Junction in 1969. Second Hymek D7041 at (edit) Cardiff Third a groggy looking D1036 approaching Whiteball tunnel on 24th April 1971 Next two slides are a pair of MFYE Westerns (although in black and white!) D1068 Western Reliance at Paddington platform 2 on the 1630 to Plymouth, 21st April 1968 And finally, D1012 before the square ventilation panels were fitted at Woodborough in 1969 Neil
  22. For those not following DaveFs superb picture thread 1. do so 2. Highland baby Sulzer posted tonight http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/85326-dave-fs-photos-ongoing-more-added-4th-february/?p=1769746 Neil
  23. Ah - it's Thingley junction not Clink road, will edit
  24. I showed this at talk I gave in the USA for my Texan friends. Neil
