  1. 47308 was reported as being fitted in 1983 Here it is a year later. [/url]47308 Lostock Junction by Dave Chamberlain, on Flickr">http://47308 Lostock Junction by Dave Chamberlain, on Flickr
  2. This is very impressive work. I am really enjoying seeing how you are going about this catenary.
  3. In this case, yes, it is more about the rivalry than geography...
  4. As we approach the end of 2016, the club has seen a year of transition. As mentioned above, there has been some personnel changes, but we are still fighting fit and ready for 2017! Our main change has been to take over the main hall of our current meeting venue for the majority of our club nights - we now have more space ever imagined for 35 weeks of the year; the rest will be in the committee room. This gives us the opportunity to carry out work on both layouts simultaneously and means we can actually run things on a more regular basis; which is what it is all about surely? Our club open day back in October was a success, with a good number of visitors and a decent opportunity to play trains! This was held, as always, in the main hall of our meeting venue; now our club room! This year's guest stars were the Farnham club with their 0 gauge layout Haydon Square. The layout is still under construction, but was fully operational and provided some much needed 0 gauge in our lives! A few snaps of the day overall In more detail: Haydon Square: I am rather peeved that my pictures of Haydon Square were indifferent, to say the least. This is the best of the bunch. Thank you to the Farnham club for bringing it along. Titherleigh: Titherleigh is our new 00 layout - based on a Railway Modeller plan from about 1980 (although in this case mirrored). It is set in 1950 Southern Region west country and is due for completion in the new year. It debuts at the Rotarail show in Fareham on 22nd April. Looking the other way towards the station Loco shed, dairy and mini viaduct Freidrichstrasse: Not too many pictures of 'Fred Street', but this picture shows the catenery starting to grow. Plus a couple of member's layouts Erwald - German N gauge Uberernst - German H0 US H0 narrow gauge Next year's open day will be on Sunday 29th October at the Milland Memorial hall. We already have one excellent guest layout attending - who will be familiar to a number on RMWeb - and I am looking for at least one other. If anyone is interesting in bringing their layout, even if it is work in progress, do let me know. It is an open day, not an exhibition. We also had our club biennial jaunt to the Cologne Model show. 6 of us made the trip by rail, with a two hour stop at Brussels for some beer, chocolates and chips! A great couple of days were to be had in the company of trains (real and model), beer and German food! Here are a couple of our number discussing the finer points of an ICE unit. Next year we will be out and about at a couple of shows. Titherleigh will be at Rotarail as mentioned. My layout, Kanjiyama, will be at the Abingdon club's show on 18th March, followed by the Crawley MRS show at Tanbridge school (Horsham) on 22 and 23 April. Anyone attending, do say hello. And finally. We are always on the look out for new members. If you are in the Liphook, Haslemere, Petersfield area (or even further afield, we have members from Waterlooville and Pulborough) and interested in a club whose members have many and varied interests, let me know.
  5. E351 unit arrives at Matsumoto with a 'Super Azusa' express from Tokyo by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr An E351 'Super Azusa' unit arrives at Matsumoto with a service from Tokyo - 14 May 2014. The replacement for these units is already being delivered, so this scene will soon be history.
  6. It is the Royal Naval dockyard connection which makes this a 'derby'. Nothing to do with locale. The South Coast derby involves Portsmouth and Southampton (although also can include Bournemouth and Brighton).
  7. Edit: Beaten to it with 33113! 25191 made it to Littlehampton with 33011 with a railtour back in July 1986. http://www.railwayherald.co.uk/imagingcentre/view/258729/RD
  8. There are a few tilting Japanese models produced by Kato. Their class E351 'Super Azusa' has a very effective tilting mechanism.
  9. Looks like the first sets were dispatched the other day. Power cars 3005 and 3006 the unlucky pair. 66704 did the funeral honours. https://mobile.twitter.com/chichibugou/status/791556189284892673/photo/1
  10. He is probably lying down in a darkened room. Then again, I am sure he wouldn't be happy if he wasn't complaining about the Derby manager.
  11. I am still at a loss as to why experts and commentators are saying Allardyce has gone for 'non footballing reasons' - for example Phil McNulty's latest offering. I cannot see how much more 'footballing' you can be, with discussions on how to circumvent rules set by the FA, UEFA and FIFA on third-party ownership. Should he have lost his job for a catastrophic lack of judgement? Well, Steve McLaren did, and had he not resigned, Hodgeson would not have had his contract renewed, for the same reasons - bad decisions and judgement. It is one of the main requirements for a manager. Not sure where he goes from here. Still, there's always Derby County...
  12. Gone. http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37483344 Sorry Sam, but you're an idiot.
  13. Not without precedent though. The 300 series Shinkansen only had a working life of about 20 years. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/300_Series_Shinkansen I suspect 20 years of hard slog more or less knackered them. Probably not unlike the Eurostar.
  14. 66559 rolls the 13:29 Hoo Junction - Pulborough ballast train into it's destination - Saturday 17th September. After pausing at the station for a minute or so, the train then headed into the possession. The stop sign being replaced once it had passed. As an interesting aside, the engineering work south of the station meant the rarely used up cross-over was pressed into service. Trains terminated here, with the onward connection by bus to Barnham.
  15. A few from the weekend on the East Lancs Railway. A three train trick, but a very entertaining selection. 40106 at Bury Bolton Street 80080 arrives at Bury with a Rawtenstall train 34092 - a little off region - blasts into Ramsbottom with a north-bound train
  16. Class 47 variety - of a 1990s 472xx variety. All taken between 1993 and 1996 at Eastleigh. 47228 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 47228 heads north with an evening freightliner (taken into the sun I'm afraid). 47276 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 47276 stands light engine at the platform. 47283 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr Tatty 47283 heads north. 47285 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 47285 rests at the stabling point. 47299 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 47299 arrives at the down platform, ready to shunt into the depot
  17. Update on mine. After discussions with my supplier - Hobby Search- the tamper was returned for repair. They accepted this on the basis of a short video showing some the issues, for the benefit of their support team. They offered to to repay my postage costs which, upon provision of a scan of the receipt, was refunded within 10 minutes to my Paypal account! It is reassuring that whilst it is a risk purchasing 'blind' from the opposite side of the world, HS can be relied upon to be honest and diligent. It was sent out to Japan as a return item (for import duty purposes), and will be posted back to the UK as a warranty (nil value) repair. Hopefully that will not be too much for UK customs to cope with...
  18. No it's not. The shadow beneath the 47 is different (meaning it was taken at a different time of day), and there is clearly steam in the background of the first picture...
  19. A pair of E2 units at Nagano on the Hokuriku Shinkansen - May 2014. Little aside - the unit on the right had just terminated with a service from Tokyo; we're not seeing the Japanese indulging in some wrong line running!
  20. A few more from Carlisle - August 1994. 86233 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 86233 'Lawrence Olivier' pulls into Carlisle 86247 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 86247 'Abraham Darby' with a south-bound service. 90003 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 90003 'The Herald' 90125 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 90125 stands at the head of a south-bound freight.
  21. It was a mixture. At least one would have been a thunderbird, but some mail trains were still diesel-hauled. I have a rather indifferent picture of 47777 'on the blocks' at Kings Cross with a mail train. Missing from the first picture was yet another 47 and a 90 (hiding behind the two 47s). 20 years earlier, 47854 was journeying towards Plymouth. 47854 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 47854 leaves Dawlish Warren - late summer 1996.
  22. A couple from Kings Cross in the summer of 1994. I was doing my work experience at the time, spending a week at the British Library. Being close to Kings Cross, I took the opportunity to see what was there. 47s x 2 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr I am sure I have the numbers of these two jotted down somewhere, but I'll never link whatever scribblings I have to these. 47520 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 47520 keeps 90017 company at Kings Cross
  23. There seems to be a lack of class 91 on this thread! 91011 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr Line up of class 91s at Kings Cross. From the front, 91011, 91027, 91003 and a final unidentified example. Pity about the lamp really... 91027 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr Portrait of 91027 at Kings Cross
