  1. Freight operated along the Portsmouth direct until fairly recently - the Fawley to Alton fuel tanks ran until about 2015(?). Unfortunately I never managed to get to see it, let alone get any photographs. To be honest, apart from this, there probably wasn't much in the way of freight since the early 70s, aside from engineering stuff and the odd train between Guildford and Shalford (turning onto the North Downs line to Redhill).
  2. Great picture of my local station, but yes, the semaphores are no more - there is a thread somewhere documenting their demise. They are much missed... Just for completeness, here is a gantry at Littlehampton - taken back in 2013, but I believe still with us. Portsmouth Direct is the route from Waterloo to Portsmouth via Guildford and Petersfield; as opposed to London - Pompey via Winchester, or the old LBSCR route via Horsham and Chichester. Re Pulborough, there was a degree of unevenness over that bridge - there was even a speed restriction until fairly recently. It was not apparent when I looked at it about 30 minutes ago (been out and about today).
  3. I would be more than happy to see a picture of a class 66 hauling a passenger train at Gairlochead. I don't doubt it happened, nor do I doubt there may be the odd photo of this (you may have one yourself for all I know). My comment was more about the sudden specificity of the request which brought the pictures to a screaming halt. This thread is good fun, with a huge variety of pictures from all parts of the world and many eras, and there have been some excellent pictures posted. Sometimes it is quite hectic, as last night, sometimes it is very quiet. My point is that if this request is followed by a wildcard with the request for a class 73 operating a Waterloo - Salisbury service at Andover (happened at least a couple of times), chances are it will be another 24 hours until the next picture, and so on and so forth. So there cannot really be an 'I told you so', because the basic premis stands. I do apologise if I came across a bit short, but it was very much a case of 'oh, well that's killed it for the moment'.
  4. Agree. Whilst to the letter of the rules, it doesn't really follow the spirit...
  5. Blue and white - and an overhead DC unit to boot! Next - another multiple unit
  6. Red and white at Stuttgart - 2013 Next - green and yellow.
  7. Steam special at Victoria - 5th December 2013. Next, a train in a city.
  8. A pair of Eurostar sets at Brussels Midi - April 20th 2017. Artificially lit, of course... Next, a night time picture please...
  9. Funicular railway on the island of Djurgardens - August 2009 Next, a picture by the sea.
  10. A train in the wet with puddles... 313220 stands at a very damp Seaford - 19 September 2013. It was raining; I got wet taking this picture... Keeping with the weather theme. A photo with a backdrop of dark/storm clouds
  11. Something big and black - 16 March 2013 9F 92212 at East Grinstead -on one of the first days of operation on the reopened section. Something green next
  12. Class 181 205-6 at Stuttgart - 13 September 2013 Something yellow next
  13. 50015 at Rawtenstall - 4th April 2015. How about something Orange next?
  14. Certainly not boring at all. Thank you for sharing.
  15. A Scotrail 47 a long way from Scotland? The usual suspect - 47706 - passes Eastleigh in about 1994. How about a cross country service in the hands of a loco other than a 47 - the more unusual the better!
  16. Nice picture, but not quite what I meant... 37046 remained 37046 throughout its life. What I was thinking of was something like this... 37274 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 37274 was rebuilt to be 37402 during the refurbishment programme. Apologies if I was not clear... In terms of 47s on cross country. http://47818 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 47818 sits at Exeter St David's with a west-bound cross country - June 1994 Pipped at the post!
  17. 37414 passes Conway Castle with a Holyhead service, back in August 1993. As we are on the theme of 37s, how about a 37 in its 37/0 condition prior to refurbishment? A before and after photo would get you a bonus point!
  18. 37412 rests at Bristol Temple Meads with, presumably, a Weymouth train - June 1995 Inevitably, next up should be a Mainline (Blue) liveried 37.
  19. Wow! This is very good. I particularly like the depth you achieve with the backscene, especially in the second picture. Your tube stock intrigues - along with most of your multiple units! How did you go about these?
  20. The stabling point just outside of Melbourne Southern Cross station. Next up, something unexpected...
  21. Perfect compromise. They have a yellow Bullet. A high-speed maintenance train known as 'Dr Yellow '... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Yellow
  22. Nothing to stop you posting them elsewhere on here. We do have the Railways of Asia sub forum, including a Japanese railway thread...
  23. That second photograph looks interesting. Looks like it is dragging a damaged class 50, which I suspect is 50044. I seem to recall 'Exeter' getting a smack in the face at Malago Vale carriage sidings in the early 80s.
