Inspired by Berlin Friedrichstrasse

I am currently between cameras, but I managed to get one or two pictures on my phone. A busy scene at Friedrichstrasse. -

Thanks Paul. Great pictures. -
Thank you to Crofton and others for organising an excellent show. We were very pleased with the way Friedrichstrasse performed and was received.

Really sorry to hear this news...what a terrible shock. My dealings with Jack/Shortliner was occasional, but he was always helpful, knowledgeable and courteous. RIP.

Looks very smart. Nice to see we're not the only ones trying to get the layout looking presentable for Rotarail. Looking forward to seeing it 'in the flesh' so to speak. Our 'Inspired by Friedrichstrasse' is another debuting layout at the show.

Right, that kit of parts seen in the previous post have now taken form... IMG_20190412_232817 by Liphook MRC, on Flickr The parts have now been individually covered with brick paper, whitewashed bricks for the internals, as well as some inspirational murals to motivate the people on their trudge to work. IMG_20190412_232840 by Liphook MRC, on Flickr Here the front has been positioned... IMG_20190419_194454 by Liphook MRC, on Flickr ...and a mural can clearly been seen. The doors along the front will be accessed by wide steps. The hexagonal shape at the top of the building is where a clock is located. Hidden under the roof are a number of small LEDs, so the inside of the structure will be lit. IMG_20190420_000542 by Liphook MRC, on Flickr Here two of the structures are in position - test fitted. Further detail to the brickwork has been added, as well as the clocks. We still need the steps, as well as detailing in the station plaza (stalls etc.) The overall roof has been fitted, as has the platform detailing (various kiosks (Artitech) benches, signs, people etc.). IMG_20190420_000632 by Liphook MRC, on Flickr Looking from the end of the layout, the cluster of houses around the tram circle have been fitted. These are Auhagen buildings (part of the Schmitstrasser range). Given the awkwardness of the space, a number have needed to be cut to fit. When the perspex is fitted, this should work quite well. The tree is a very nice lime tree, made by 4D Modelshop. The flats and backscene have been fitted into place (the flats are actually fitted to the baseboard, not the backscene. The basics are there now (I had to escape from the club last Friday before the station buildings were completed and fitted), and whilst there is much to do in terms of little detailing, we are ready for our first show - which is Rotarail in Fareham this Saturday.- 136 replies

Bachmann Europe to bring Thomas to the UK & Ireland
Claude_Dreyfus replied to AY Mod's topic in Bachmann
That is an interesting point. There are a number of cases where the licencing rules preclude Tomix sales outside of Japan. I believe the 'Hello Kitty' 500 series Shinkansen was one (not that such abominations should exist in any event!). Perhaps the Tomix Thomas range will fall under that category. -
Thameslink Class 700/0 and 700/1 diagrams
Claude_Dreyfus replied to TravisM's topic in UK Prototype Questions
The class 700/0s are reserved for the busiest periods; preferably south from London Bridge during the evening rush hour, when a number of other services have been cancelled. During this period the 700/1s are running north from either Brighton or Horsham, timed to get to London just as the volume of commuters subsides.... -
Terribly sad... thoughts are with those who are fighting the blaze. The roof and spire are lost, but hopefully the stonework is not seriously compromised. A mammoth restoration task to come.

GNR (GTR) Class 717s at West Worthing carriage sidings
Claude_Dreyfus replied to sem34090's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Wikipedia already had 313026 listed as going for scrap. Made its last journey last Monday (8th April). 313050 and 313055 are to join it shortly. -
RevolutioN Announeces N Gauge IPA Wagons
Claude_Dreyfus replied to MGR Hooper!'s topic in Revolution Trains
Wouldn't be a cheap do, but the Honda Jazz is available as part of this set (including the Nissan Micra). -
I honestly have no idea why Dave stirs things up like this. He has form, the behaviour around outing Revolution's 92, and particularly in the early days, his constant references to being a professional and not doing this as a part timer (a habit he has fortunately desisted from given his relatively poor delivery performance). Instead of playing games, perhaps he should just get on with what is supposed to be doing. People wonder why DJM gets such a panning at times. His casual statement about the mark 5s is a good example of how a large proportion has been brought on by himself.

Getting the 120 is worthwhile. They are being withdrawn in increasing numbers. -
New Japanese layout
Claude_Dreyfus replied to Earwicker's topic in Railways of Asia 🇯🇵🇮🇳🇨🇳
This is developing really well. It's going to be an excellent layout when completed. -
Very much a late addition to this thread is our club 00 layout Titherleigh.
-
A very similar set up to that train is depicted here... albeit with a BR64 leading Linked from the first website I mentioned earlier, which gives a good selection of train consists.
-
I cannot give a detailed answer on what codes actually mean, but yes, they denote the carriage type (something akin to the British classifications FO, BSK etc.). In theory getting one of each would give you a plausible consist. There are plenty of sites out there giving more details...the one below is good (the silberlingen listed are older Roco models) http://www.noetzel24.de/index.php?id=84 Also, if you don't have too much luck here, there is an English language German railway forum here. https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/germanrailfr/
-
It could be a BR64. They certainly hauled them...

Piko are pretty good...their latest offerings are scale length. If you're feeling rich, there's also the Brawa version. https://www.modellbahnshop-lippe.com/produkt/Brawa/5-4-001012-312811-0-0-0-3-3-2-0-gatt-gb-p-0/ein_produkt.html

OO gauge Crowdfunded APT-P (Warley announcement)
Claude_Dreyfus replied to DJM Dave's topic in DJModels
I would say that is a sensible approach...and one we have seen with a number of Revolution products. In an ideal world it gets the number of orders up, and once delivered creates some limited availability for the 'I wish I got one of those when they were available' brigade, albeit at the usual eBay prices. Given the uncertainty around mechanisms, capability of the manufacturer to deliver etc; there are many who would like the model, but are hanging back to see if it is any good/sees the light of day. It could be an excellent (but risky and costly) investment for someone, but definitely worthwhile if the model is delivered, especially to the spec being promised. -
Yes indeed. Two big clubs laid low over recent seasons...as proven by the large attendance. Pity someone had to lose, but being a Pompey fan, I was happy with the result. Nice to have some silverware after the rather rocky last few years. In Kenny we trust!

Should that not be doing your nut-kin?...
