  1. I'd say extended where the window opening is. If you compare the end to the postcard, it is the same van.
  2. I'd say it's the same but re-boarded with horizontal boards, this has the effect of changing the perspective (if that's the right word)
  3. The vagaries of different Building controls. I've got worse soil conditions as well as being on a steep hill and haven't got anywhere near that amount of re-inforcing. There is a 130 rafter slated roof which will be bearing on the slab as the walls aren't sufficiently stable. We always say there is more in the ground than above.
  4. Too much steel within the slab actually reduces the strength as it reduces the 'mass' of the concrete*. It wouldn't matter on a slab such as this as it's not structural, but there is no benefit for having so much and it will now require a vibrating poker as the chance of air pockets has increased. * it also depends on the aggregate used within the concrete.
  5. I'm currently building up a reinforced concrete slab and it has half the steel !
  6. take your own advice, I was enjoying the thread till you posted….🥱
  7. I am currently unable to access the folder with the info on the Orchid van (house move) Not 100% sure where I filed it as it's not on the hard drives I've unpacked. If you want to move this into another folder I would ask @AY Mod if it is possible, or whether you just change the title of the thread (in the first post)
  8. They are for the centre wheel set. The inner springs are set behind the half round bracket(?) and can't really be seen, it only needs an axle box on the front and it allows some more movement on the centre axle. I tried it on the Orchid van and now use it on other 6 wheelers.
  9. This was the etch I produced and part way through construction. It's 90% finished but is currently packed away following a house move.
  10. I did etches for this one 18 months ago, I’ve got some details on it but am currently at work and not able to access files, I’ll look later.
  11. This years trip to Warley is from the new abode. It entails a 490 mile round trip (£88) , 2 nights in an AirB&B (£160) as well as the hop into the NEC on the train (£10). The entrance fee is minor in this equation. It may sound a lot but we're making a weekend of it (I get 1 day at the NEC) and doing things on the way down as well as on the way back. I get to see traders I purchase from (Gibson, H&A etc) and have already put together a list of requirements that runs to £250+ it sounds a lot, but these are parts that will finish off 12 months of modelling.
  12. As annoying as it might seem I'd put a watermark across them. I've found my own photographs (taken in the 70's) on Ebay when they were downloaded from a site some years ago.
  13. Looking at it paying cash in is via the Post office for 0.7% (£3 min). Cheques under a £1000 are via an app and over a £1000 are via a Freepost service. I've done an enquiry and the cost of an account with equal services (which I use) is more than I am currently paying.
  14. Who is it with ? I'm yet to find a business account that doesn't charge
  15. I don't agree that there is a positive. You have at least one funder of the model who paid his money up front in good faith that when produced he would receive a model. KR have stated in the past that they don't like going down the retailer route, and yet RoS had a supply of models and a funder doesn't. That to me says that more have been returned as faulty than was envisaged and KR have run out. I can't see that there is another explanation as they knew how many that had to be produced and supplied. KR did say themselves that they wouldn't commit to production until they had enough confirmed orders so the number required with a percentage on top for faulty models was known at the start. The poster is stuck between a rock and a hard place. If he still wants a model, would KR still hold one from a further batch at the same price that he's paid for one from the first batch. What if he waits for a further batch to be commissioned but KR decide not to. KR miraculously find a model to fulfil is order, but it's actually a returned item. He accepts a refund of £150(?) which after 18 months is actually only worth £140 due to inflation. Personally I would ask for a refund of the full amount paid as well as a 20% fee for part funding the production of the model. KR haven't used their own money to produce the model so should re-imburse those that have that they have let down.
  16. Thanks Steve, that is new info to me (it's a bit late for my period) and yes that is the article I have a copy of.
  17. I've got a timetable for the late 50's which has a 16.06 Hitchin to Sandy with just 1 set. After terminating at Sandy it ran back to Hitchin empty stock
  18. And yet another well respected kit maker whose range ABS took on, was rather frustrated that very little (if any) saw the light of day and his work was criticised for being inaccurate but without any evidence being produced. The same kit maker had reservations that ABS's own range was not as accurate as it was made out to be. Horses for courses.
  19. This is very sad and unexpected news. I conversed with Mike occasionally as he worked at Sealink in Victoria where my older brother worked and we knew some people in common (Brain Bartram...standing on a table in the bar at St Pancras drunk and singing). I must say that for such a sad read I did snigger when I read of the car keys in Mikes pocket.
  20. When FS was at the Gloucester Warwickshire in the early 90's (owned by McAlpine & Waterman) she was in BR green with the German smoke deflectors. I set up the camera in a field in amongst a few others filming and photographing. As FS approached a very loud gent behind declared "I'm not wasting film on that f*&^%$g thing with those f&^%$*g deflectors on the front, Waterman and McAlpine want f&^%$*g shooting for putting it in that livery" as we all turned around there stood a small gent with a dog collar in what can only be described as a rage. He packed his gear and stomped off and the chap next to me with a video camera looked at me and said "I was going to tell him to shush but I thought it might really get him going"
  21. That's a lot of food to push that out a day........Oh..you said 'sheets'...my error.
  22. I have found trip advisor unreliable at best and fantasy at worst. I haven't bothered reading it for a long time and don't leave reviews. I've always used my own judgement in booking places and not had issues with the hotel, any issues have generally been with other guests (nightime karaoke/drunk)
  23. As these are 'new' I doubt that one would be available (yet) Myself and others I know who make after market parts purchase a model.
