  1. This harbour will be modelled at low tide. So will include the mud, the ropes and chains, the buoys, the seaweed, the moss, the small trapped pools of sea water, the sea gulls.
  2. Thanks John I've not used dope since the 70s. I'm using OSMO wood filler, followed by acrylic paint. This is supposed to be a working trawler so like everything on this layout, it will be properly weathered.
  3. Still working on the wheelhouse. Just completed the window frames. Now working on the sliding door and rear window. Then it will be moved into the paint shop.
  4. I'm leaning on a lamppost on the platform of Little Muddle In case a certain little train comes by, Oh me, oh my, I hope the little train comes by.
  5. "Only one comment....it's always sunny here in Devon !" This was one of Grahame's first comments at the start of my thread. After I had threatened to actually model Dartmoor after a downpour. He continued to offer some very welcome comments and asides throughout the thread. So sad to hear this news. RIP Grahame George
  6. Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught on Little Muddle side, An escape from reality
  7. You can see a bit more detail here.
  8. This week I've been locked away fitting out the wheelhouse. Still plenty more to add to this.
  9. On Bovey Tor, I thought that if I wasn't bothering with wires for the telegraph posts, why bother with the fences? "That seems logical captain."
  10. When I wake up, well I know I'm gonna see, I'm gonna see how the Little Muddle grew And I would read 500 pages And I would read 500 more Da da da (da da da) Da da da (da da da)
  11. I can't beat it but I can match it. Unlike Kent the garden of England. Beckton is the sewer of London. So we know all about the wonderful aromas of which you speak.
  12. We had a similar situation when we moved from Paddington to Pimlico. The 'council' agent said we'd have glorious views of the river from our 7th floor windows. But in fact you needed to lean out so far from the balcony, you were putting your life in serious peril. Apparently, on a clear day you could see Battersea Power station. Nice.
  13. Brilliant Alex, please do. Can't have a harbour without the odd pub now can we?
  14. I love these views. You really get a sense of the depth of the place. Little Muddle has obviously been a big inspiration for Bovey Quay. That and spending every summer in Brixham. Early mornings watching the fish auction and the artists painting the harbour scene. The smell of fresh jam doughnuts and fish and chips. The noisy sea gulls singing away. Fond memories.
  15. Thanks for that Alex. I've just ordered the book 'Saltash through time'. Although I'll probably use Polperro as the main location in terms of geography and harbour layout. I've been trawling through everywhere looking for some interesting prototypes. And for this layout, I'm not limiting myself to just Devon and Cornwall either. In this diorama, my primary criteria is whether it looks right.
  16. Thanks Kevin. What I found with the last layout was that I got the most pleasure out of just modelling the structures. So having Polperro as an example, means lots of buildings and of course a sprawl of fishing boats drying in the mud. Oh, and I might just squeeze a railway in there too.
  17. Thanks very much John. Really enjoying working in this new scale. Err, that would be the 'royal' we BTW.
  18. This week we started on the wheelhouse. The main structure is pretty much there. But still need to make all the window frames and glazing. Today started working on the interior with the helm console. Then start on the smaller items like switches radio gear. And on the roof lifesaver, lights and then weathering everything. Finally the back may end up being removable to show the interior.
  19. Twas on a Tuesday morning The carpenter came round He hammered and he chiselled and he said: "Look what I've found! Your gate posts are full of dry-rot But I'll put them all to rights." Then he nailed right through a cable and out went all the lights Oh, it all makes work for the working man to do!
  20. The wires on the bus go 'round and 'round 'Round and 'round, 'round and 'round The wires on the bus go 'round and 'round All day long
  21. Thanks for that. I'm a big fan of his work. Allan set the bar pretty damn high.
  22. Just completed the hull build and starting the false deck. Followed by the wheelhouse exterior and interior.
  23. "Alright, " said Fred, "Have to put the door on Need more space to shift the so-and-so." Had bad twinges putting on the hinges And it got us nowhere And so we had a cuppa tea and...
