  1. Thanks John. Glad you like the roof, first time working with copper sheet. The moving is going well, I believe. Just waiting for the magic word, 'exchange'. I know you've been through this recently.
  2. It's beginning to look a lot like a railway.
  3. Still a few more details to add such as hinges and a lock. But 90% done now.
  4. Merci beaucoup mon ami.
  5. Thanks Graham. I think you can tell I'm loving this new scale. It really does open up a bunch of possibilities. And despite being larger, it's still only 60mm across the roof.
  6. A bit further on with this little project. Still need to add the small details and add a bit of texture to the surroundings. The roof is still wet, hence a bit shiny shiny.
  7. I made a model of a cliff once. There were shadows all around that also.
  8. That's looking the business there Graham. Advertising signs by their very nature are very colourful anyway. But it could be that the chroma needs knocking back in order for them to recede. Think I might want to either spray a pale white or cream over all of them or a slight dusting of white weathering powder. You could try a test on some you haven't used yet.
  9. Thanks Ade. Yep, I did a number of material tests back in 2019 before starting on Bovey Tor. I never really got on with Das clay. I now use a couple of different plasters. From basic casting plaster (plaster of Paris) to Crystalcast dental plaster. Which is the hardest of them all. There is probably a better shelf life with these plasters as they come sealed in a bucket.
  10. Thanks John. The main structure is made from polystyrene sheet, not the light foam board, but the solid type. I bought a bundle of different sizes to try out. This one is 2mm and I've doubled up to give it more strength. The bricks are moulded in dental plaster. Cut out individually and then carved after laying. The rendering is also made from dental plaster. The door and framework is all made from lime wood strips.
  11. It was way back in March when I last did any modelling on here, so about time I think. I've decided to nudge Bovey Quay to the side and start a small diorama. Just to get used to building in this new scale. Trying out some new techniques etc. And also wanting to experiment with blending the backscene with the model. It will be built on one of NHY 581's famous Lack shelfs. The bigger scale allows for the use of different materials and adding more detail. Started this a week ago, still to add: glazing, grouting, roof timbers, corrugated roof, hinges and lock. weathering etc.
  12. Shine On You Crazy Diamond – Pink Floyd
  13. Back in the early 90s, I trained on a new application called Adobe Photoshop. It was good but... it required a huge amount of RAM which we didn't have. So took ages to do anything! And it didn't have layers! Not for the faint hearted I can tell you. I would demo it to visitors to the studio, they were quite amazed with what it could do. And now...
  14. Well you've trimmed the beech, added bushery and shrubery. And it all came together in the end. Way to go!
  15. Three Little Birds ( Don't Worry About a Thing ) – Bob Marley
  16. I Love The Sound of Breaking Glass – Nick Lowe
  17. I Wanna Dance with Somebody – Whitney Houston
  18. He's a modeller and he's OK He sleeps all night and plays trains all day
  19. "I chop down trees, I eat my lunch.."
  20. (There's) Always Something There to Remind Me – Dionne Warwick
  21. Play That Funky Music – Wild Cherry
  22. The main reason for moving to 7mm was precisely because of these kind of issues. As I wanted to scratch build everything apart from the track and rolling stock. But now I've got nothing to complain about? Well we'll see about that, as I'm still working on the first building.
