Looking forward to seeing you in Springfield in January!

Love the brickwork. And the weathering. Great job!

Displays such as the above, I think, can be a great motivator for folks not yet sure about the hobby. While perhaps not a "layout" (depending on one's definition) it does show a way for people to "test the waters" so to speak. Excellent job Andy!

Christmas ads on TV? No way! Don't they know it's too late for that, Easter is almost here!

OK, it's been several weeks since I sent in my entry form for this layout. I've always been impressed by many of the layouts on Carl Arendt's website and figured something developed from a few of them would make for an interesting cameo layout. Specifically, Carl's Imports, Carl's Exports, Box Street Yard and Boxer Shortline.
As interesting as each of these layouts are, each had a sector plate that needed access from the rear - two had other access needs. I wanted to avoid these as I wanted to be able to totally operate from the front of the layout. I also wanted space for a few more places to spot wagons increasing the switching (shunting) opportunities.
As this will be my first experience in British outline, OO and a sectional/portable layout, I figured it might be best to do some careful planning. My goals were:
maximum size - 6 feet long by 2 feet wide scenic area (divided into either 2 or 3 sections) with an 18 inch cassette on each side to swap out rolling stock
baseboard to be as lightweight as possible
peco trackwork
dcc control
possible use of servos for point motors
some sort of automatic coupling - kadee, sprat & winkle, dingham etc.
From the above I fired up Anyrail to see what I could come up with. I think I have a trackplan that will work. Once I figure out how to post Anyrail diagrams and pics I"ll update.

Yes Dave the free version does all that you see above. The free one will limit you to 50 pieces of track but for my "plank layout plans" it's always been more than enough.

I thought it looked familiar. I love Anyrail in that it is a very easy to understand and use package. In a way playing with Anyrail has almost become a hobby in itself. lol I have not yet printed out a full size plan, but looking at your pic has convinced me to go out and buy a printer. Thanks!

"Not really," replied God, "just wait and see the a*sshole neighbours I am going to give them."
Love it! And I'm one of those neighbors.

Perhaps I missed it in an earlier post, but which software are you using that can do those printouts? Anyrail?

Just wanted to post my recent Model Railways Direct experience. I was looking for some Ratio and Wills kits and living in the U.S. pretty much have to do so via the web. I found what I was looking for from Model Railways Direct and submitted my order on 31 October. Today (7 November) when I got home from work there was a box on the front step with my order. Seven days to receive a transAtlantic order (without paying for any of the "super fast" shipping methods) has made me a very satisfied customer. I should also note that the items were packed in a very sturdy box. I shall add MRD to my list of folks to shop with.

I use Prismacolor pencils doing brick and for weathering. I use both the soft core and Verithin (hard leads). Not sure if Prismacolor is available in UK.

Star Trek can be very useful in helping to understand these things
.
Or the Back to the Future trilogy.

And the correct decision was made.

But then are there any models that we really need? Or are all of them really more of what we want?
Naw, they are all needed!
Do You Buy Trains You Like, or Ones that Fit Together?

Perhaps I see it in a different way. If I don't like a train, then it doesn't "fit" and I won't buy it.![:sungum:](https://www.rmweb.co.uk/uploads/emoticons/default_sun_bespectacled.gif)
