I think you could.  Class 08's were moved as they moved so slowly on rail.  Also stripped large diesels that had been withdrawn became considerably lighter, rose on their springs, and became out of gauge.

Thanks for that! That's handy to know. He was specifically thinking about a diorama surrounding a fire damaged coach I'll let him know a fire damaged diesel might work better

There were other, more specific circumstances earlier than that, such as when locos and rolling stock were moved from Anglesey, following the fire on the Britannia (Menai) Bridge in 1970.
