  1. Not sure that it's related directly to the blue banner issue, but I am finding it nigh-on impossible to use the ACTIVITY etc. tabs. As soon as you click on one, the drop-down tabs jump away from their original position just as you are about to click on them, and you have to go back to the original tab. Repeat this several times; tear your hair out; and you MIGHT eventually get to where you want to be .... or not ! If the web-design section want to play with the site layout in order to sell ads., ask them to do so to their hearts content off-line - and NOT to come back on-line until they've got it right! Regards, John Isherwood.
  2. I did the bogie cut-and-shut on mine - but I can't remember why now. (Probably my OCD) ! Regards, John Isherwood.
  3. They saluted you whenever they saw a vehicle displaying an AA badge. If they didn't salute - there was a speed trap ahead! Regards, John Isherwood.
  4. Browsing through some photos today, I came upon this (extract) :- Nothing out of the ordinary about the first two AX DRIKOLD containers, but the third container is a larger version that I have not previously come across. Checking through my database, I am bound to draw the conclusion that it is an ex-LNER BX DRIKOLD container to diagram 26. Would interested members agree - or are there other possiblilities? Regards, John Isherwood.
  5. I think that I am correct in saying; (Paul B. will correct me if necessary); that the Hornby (ex-Airfix) 21T rivetted mineral open purports to represent a prototype of which none were either vacuum-fitted or piped. To many of us, such anomolies 'grate' just as much as missing lamps or leaning return cranks do with you; it grabbed my attention immediately. Each to their own, though. Regards, John Isherwood.
  6. Now there's a coincidence - I live in Bodmin. Western Mould Services - Google doesn't find them; must be long gone. PL3 11EZ - part of one of Bodmin's industrial estates; now the 'Proper Cornish' pasty producers. 01208 77663 - Western Mould Services Feb 21, 2014 Western Mould Services Address: Western House Bodmin, Cornwall PL31 1EZ UK - United Kingdom Phone Number: (01208) 77663 Website: Industry: Tool Design and Makers. Observations :- The floor moulding has a defined rectangular area; apparently indicating where to cut if it is desired to fit a motor bogie. Ian Kirk produced a kit for a SR EMU which would require the fitting of a motor bogie. I suspect - no more - that these may be remaindered mouldings, sourced from the infamous Cooper Craft in its last and disastrous incarnation. 'Nuff said !! Regards, John Isherwood.
  7. Tony, What's the provenance; (model and prototype); of the LWB mineral behind the 9F, please? (Does it have a vac. / through pipe )? Obviously, the loco has lamps - one would expect no other ! Regards, John Isherwood. Regards, John Isherwood.
  8. I may be missing something here - in which case ignore me - but is there not some moulded lettering, in the centre of the underside of the floor, which might have given you a clue? Regards, John Isherwood.
  9. Nah - just raw, no-nonsense power; none of your namby-pamby Sherwood Green trim for these EE workhorses. The brass rims to the small circular grilles were the only concession to decoration. Regards, John Isherwood.
  10. Any chance of a scan - here or via PM - please? Regards, John Isherwood.
  11. .... or you could use them to cut and shut the bogies to the correct length. Regards, John Isherwood.
  12. There's nothing wrong with the coupling - it's a standard NEM fitting tension-lock. The problem is the NEM pocket position - it should end flush with the bufferbeam, but doesn't!! Regards, John Isherwood.
  13. Lofty, Normally, I would not dream of commenting on personal relationships - but you chose, some time ago, to share here the details of how your previous relationship had broken down. Given that your ex-partner commandeered your model collection, it would not be unreasonable to infer that, amongst the causes, was excessive / secret spending on model railways. I was merely offering friendly advice to the effect that a repetition of such practices is likely to lead to relationship failure once again. Apparently, you have given your girlfriend an undertaking not to spend money on models - yet you openly admit to breaking that undertaking; so much for trust and commitment! I prefer not to broadcast the details of my (happy) relationship with my wife, and thereby I do not invite public comment. Regards, John Isherwood.
  14. ..... and when she finds out - as she inevitably will ?? Some people must like living dangerously. Think about it - if there are no secrets, there's no dangerof being caught out. If you can tell us .... what's the problem? Regards, John Isherwood.
  15. I really couldn't say - but I genuinely hope that all goes well and the confidence of crowdfunders is justified. Regards, John Isherwood.
  16. I too hope that he delivers - but I've not read any 'snide' comments; just cautious comment - quite justified in the light of recent events. Quite a few overly-optimistic punters stand to lose significant money as a consequence of very similar circumstances. Let's all hope that history does not repeat itself. Regards, John Isherwood.
  17. On the RH model - could the weathering of the number be trying to disguise something? I ask this as a supplier of model railway transfers. Tut - tut! Regards, John Isherwood.
  18. In my experience - sneaking models into the domestic abode to avoid awkward questions is not the way to develop a trusting relationship. Just my two pen'north, given in the light of past events. .... but what do I know? Regards, John Isherwood.
  19. THAT is ridiculous !!!! Regards, John Isherwood.
  20. Summat's been done - it now works for me too !! Thank you, whoever it was. Regards, John Isherwood.
  21. Really? I have a first issue FALCON, which performs faultlessly. Anyone else care to expand on this? Regards, John Isherwood.
  22. Never buy model railways as an investment, or to pass on to family as a bequest. You'll be disappointed if you sell them, or the family will just take the first offer made to get them off their hands. Buy what you like, run them and, if possible, flog them before you peg it; to save the family the trouble of disposing of your treasured collection. Regards, John Isherwood.
