  1. I think that Roy Link was instrumental in promoting its use as a more accurate way of portraying 1'-11.5'' gauge in 4mm. / 1ft. scale. His erstwhile range of 4mm. NG track, locos and rolling stock were available for 8mm. gauge. Regards, John Isherwood.
  2. I know of WREN and THRUSH - which number was named CHAFFINCH? Regards, John Isherwood.
  3. That's great thanks - I will now need to find photos of the various painted lettering on the crane and supporting wagons so that I can compile a transfer sheet for the BR livery. Ideally, I would like to represent GWR crane 17 in its BR condition before being cascaded to the LMR. If succesful, I will add the transfer sheet to my website for the benefit of anyone else mad enough to take a paintbrush to this somewhat expensive model. Regards, John Isherwood.
  4. Can anyone say what the early 1960s livery for the GWR version would have been - or even better, point me at a photo? I have ordered the grey GWR version, but I intend to refinish it in BR(WR) livery. Regards, John Isherwood.
  5. CCT (Cambridge Custom Transfers), David. Regards, John Isherwood.
  6. ...... which is ED10 in its Tracked Hovercraft incarnation - unless I am very much mistaken. Regards, John Isherwood.
  7. 'Cos 'pretty' sells - overall crimson is seen as less attractive than crimson and cream - despite history. Moreover, the ones painted crimson and cream would have remain so until they were next due for repainting. I'm pretty sure that some overall crimson versions of the Airfix / Hornby autocoach have been produced - though I may be wrong. Regards, John Isherwood.
  8. Let's hope that that is the case then - I had to pay a premium price to obtain mine. Regards, John Isherwood.
  9. Chipmaster, It is not clear to me whether your post is intended to refer to my post (above) re ED10. It is my understanding BR ED10; a 3'-0'' gauge loco supplied for use at Beeston Sleeper Works, (as you say); subsequently went to Tracked Hovercraft Limited near St. Ives (Cambridgeshire). It was there fitted with non-flanged wheels and adapted to run on the concrete beam tracks of the (abhortive) tracked hovercraft project; (as per Honest Tom's photo above). It's subsequent ownership is not known to me. Regards, John Isherwood.
  10. Within the diagrams quoted for the new sheet, NO cutting-and-shutting is required - EVERY number within each diagram is provided, in both early (large) and later (small) formats. I would recommend sealing the transfers with the same water-based GLOSS varnish used as an undercoat; then, and only then, dull or matt the surface with your chosen finish varnish. Regards, John Isherwood.
  11. To complement the development of a replacement interior for THRUSH by David Bigcheeseplant, I have designed a new sheet of transfers to cover the BR liveries of the Airfix / Hornby, Bachmann and Comet Coaches ex-GWR autocoaches. Being uncertain as to which vehicles had large and / or small numbering, (and not having access to Volume 2 of Lewis), I have provided both ! I have also included the other markings that these vehicles carried under BR. The 2mm., 3mm., 3.5mm. & 4mm. scale price is £8.00; S scale is £16.00; 7mm. scale is £24.00; and the Gauge 1 price is £30.00; all prices include UK P&P. Ordering details can be found at https://www.cctrans.org.uk/products.htm , or write with a cheque, payable to C. J. Isherwood, to Cambridge Custom Transfers, 6 Roseland Gardens, Bodmin, PL31 2EY. Regards, John Isherwood.

  13. There has been some suggestion that the tools are no longer available to Hornby - though for what reason is unclear. Regards, John Isherwood.
  14. Not so much filling-in Chat Moss - surely it's still there? What George did was, to all intents and purposes, to 'float' the railway across Chat Moss. OK, it slowly sank to the bottom as more fill was piled on top of the floating base, but the genius was in conceiving the floating foundations. (Though I've a feeling that the Romans did something similar). Regards, John Isherwood.
  15. The bottom line is that the loss of respect / support for the Police occasioned by a prosecution for 71mph in a 70mph zone cannot be worth the revenue generated by the action. RIP common sense - so often the case nowadays. Regards, John Isherwood.
  16. Looking at the Interior Layout, all the compartments are marked as Thirds. I'd guess that the NSR upgraded some compartments to Second and First, thereby creating a 1st / 2nd / 3rd composite. Regards, John Isherwood.
  17. Tony, I think that the North Sunderland Railway acquired several items of stock from the NER / LNER. Regards, John Isherwood.
  18. North Sunderland Railway ? Regards, John Isherwood.
  19. Not this one, then - which is in Switzerland. Regards, John Isherwood.
  20. Yep - it's from a GRAMPUS ballast open wagon; the grid pattern components make up (fiddlily) into the underframe baskets for the (on the prototype) removeable ends. Regards, John Isherwood. PS. The other components are buffer heads and door banger springs.
  21. All this 'floppy chassis' business seems to me to be making trouble for oneself; I'm with Tony Wright on this - give me a good old rigid chassis any time. (..... and, yes - I have built compensated and sprung chassis, but they were a lot more faff and didn't run as well as my rigid ones). Regards, John Isherwood.
  22. Formerly BR 3'-0'' gauge ED10, I believe. Regards, John Isherwood.
  23. There's no justification for it on the S&DJR either - but I always thought that the banks on that line would be an ideal testing route for new traction ! Regards, John Isherwood.
  24. This one is going to be a BIG seller !! Late crest version ordered. Regards, John Isherwood.
  25. Did the LNER really put the RESTAURANT CAR lettering down at platform level? Regards, John Isherwood.
