  1. I have spent the afternoon drawing out diagrams of coaching stock running on a 1000m. radius curve. As anticipated, the ex-LMS period 2 twelve-wheeled restaurant car has the most overhang; I calculate that platform edges at 24mm. from track centreline will allow sufficient clearance. John Isherwood.
  2. The problem is that the prototype, Evercreech Junction, had one. John Isherwood.
  3. I am about to commence the construction of a layout which will use Peco Code 75 track, at moderate radii, and I need advice concerning platform clearances. The two platform station will, of necessity, be located on a curve; and the outer and inner track radii will be 1000mm.; (the radii will be diverging in order to accommodate a central lay-by track between the two platform tracks). I would very much welcome advice as to the necessary clearance between the outer and inner track centrelines and the adjacent platform edges. The longest coach will be a Hornby ex-LMS Period 1 six-wheeled bogie restaurant car, but the rest of the coaching stock will be BR Mk. 1 or shorter. Alternatively, if anyone is aware of a formula from which such clearances can be calculated, I would love to hear of it! Many thanks in anticipation. John Isherwood.
  4. Are you sure that it was Euston? Not Marylebone? John Isherwood.
  5. A 2.4m. (8ft.) high security fence of plywood panels - with just one controlled entrance / exit - would keep out any source of media contact from those in the tunnels. A strict rule of 'you can leave but not re-enter' should be in place on the gate. Allow food and drink in - but handed over to the security staff. Starved of publicity, but not the essentials of life, enthusiasm would soon wane. Back in the day, this is how we dealt with illegal traveller encampments - but used earth banks / ditches instead of fencing. A couple of burly / not easily intimidated security men on the one gate, and it was only a matter of time. Site clearance was usually very prompt! John Isherwood.
  6. David, Thank you - I must admit that I read the comment at a time when I was easily irritated; I meant no offence. I think that the 'aggro' was exacerbated by the comments of a third party. Regards, John Isherwood.
  7. Just to point out the other side of the coin .... As a small supplier, a surprising number of my orders come from the EU; (and all other corners of the globe). When posted on a group with an international membership, the specific statement that ordering from abroad with small suppliers is "near impossible" can have far-reaching consequences. I fully accept that the OP had no such intention, but the unintended implications could be disruptive for both suppliers and potential customers. All I was asking for was a little more thought before posting sweeping statements. Not unreasonable, surely? John Isherwood, Cambridge Custom Transfers.
  8. Please point me to the word 'some' before 'small suppliers'; it ain't there! The statement is crystal-clear; 'in the case of small suppliers, near impossible'. Please read postings before interfering. John Isherwood.
  9. I don't think that Flangeway Models would be quite so enthusiastic!! John Isherwood.
  10. No he most certainly did not - 'near impossible' was the exact wording. Who are these mystery lazy suppliers? John Isherwood.
  11. What difficulties? I'm a small supplier and I continue to send orders to the EU exactly as before Brexit. John Isherwood.
  12. If posters are allowed to berate hardworking shop staff, and no-one takes them to task for it or points out their unreasonable behaviour, they'll continue to do it in future. Act unreasonably - expect to have it pointed out! John Isherwood.
  13. I rely on medication to 'retain a level mental playing field', and I also have a 16XX on order. Casting aspersions at the hardworking Kernow staff may make him feel better, but it will do nothing for their 'mental playing field'. It's all about patience, and keeping things in proportion. John Isherwood.
  14. Oh dear !! (Just a bit playground toilet humour, don't you think)? John Isherwood.
  15. I suspect that they could not get the moulded windows - similar to those in Kitmaster kits, to reliably fit the coach sides. In recent years, this has been overcome by the 'zig-zag' moulding of the windows, to enable them to stretch / compress to fit the coach sides. John Isherwood.
  16. Does it really matter? Another day or so before you can play with it? Considering the state of the world at present, it's hardly earth-shattering, is it? John Isherwood.
  17. I've been hauled by that one - at the Ecomusee des Landes. Regards, John Isherwood.
  18. I'm pretty certain that Adrian did his own casting - in fact, I believe that he acted as a casting contractor for quite a number of well known brands; (W&T springs to mind immediately). John Isherwood.
  19. Not my copyright Surely the NPCCS vans were not that full? Pies needing to be kept warm? John Isherwood.
  20. I'm not aware of any statistically significant survey into whether the majority of railway modellers want 'firebox flicker', and other similar gimmicks; let alone a scientific demograph profile being published. I think that these 'features' are more to do with the various model suppliers trying to outdo each other - and, of course, these 'upgrades' provide a perfect cover for increasing prices (and profits). John Isherwood, (self-confessed GOG).
  21. In which case, Sheet BL80 at https://www.cctrans.org.uk/products.htm is what you need. Regards, John Isherwood.
  22. That doesn't alter my opinion - and, for what it's worth, the same goes for sound in my book. But, then again, I am an old-fashioned, grumpy old git - so who cares? John Isherwood.
  23. Only two years?!? That's positively light speed compared to the near-decades that some recently released (and not yet released) models have taken! John Isherwood.
  24. On mine, it is not discerible at prototypical speeds - but it glows like a minor volcano if you open the regulator right up! Such things are a gimmick for the kiddies, IMHO. John Isherwood.
