  1. In my experience of Cornwall Council, they make no attempt to do this now! Just a mad rush to allocate development land to get the government off their backs. Medical and dental provision is already virtually non-existent - and was so pre-Covid. Now that Cornwall Council has gone Conservative, they'll be even keener not to rock the Central Government boat. ...... and, amid all this house-building frenzy, the price of property is still way beyond the means of even the most optimistic of local young people.   2. Brakevan red lights move. Whatever; if we are talking about a dim, shaded red light in the cab of GT3, that could be barely discerned from the outside, I can imagine that would be perfectly safe. However, I get the impression that the red light in the model cab is rather too obvious - my comment was made on that basis. John Isherwood.

I am certainly no lawyer, but does the law not include any proviso as to unknowingly selling an item which is subsequently found to be defective? .... no provision as to the period of time after sale that such defects become apparent? .... no provision as to the reasonable expected life of the product? Just questions for a more legally knowledgeable member. John Isherwood.

Confidentiality is all very well but, in the absence of even the most basic justification from anyone as to why customers have had their money taken with nothing to show for it, their patience is not inexhaustible. Why hint at Jim's issues if they are known? Illness of any kind, physical or mental, is no longer the taboo it once was - some plain speaking is what is needed here.   12. If it is a simple mazak bar with no projections or recesses, it should be possible to cut the plastic of the spine laterally, and withdraw the bar. It is likely that the bogie pivot screws are tapped into the mazak- this may be a complicating factor. If I had an affected model, it would certainly be worth a discreet cut with a razor saw.   13. My first reaction too! Apparently, it can't be done - being moulded within the outer plastic injection moulding. John Isherwood.
  14. I was surprised to note that the two green Class 24s are both ER allocated examples. Not being too knowledgeable on such matter, is there any reason why they could not be renumbered as LMR D5084 - D5093? Were there detail differences - for instance, was the silver grille livery variation of D5094 a Finsbury Park feature? Thanks in anticipation for any input. John Isherwood.

  17. These look to be excellent models, and I am sorely tempted to add to my small stock of detailed Tri-ang examples. I don't recall it being mentioned previously that the Tri-ang ones suffer from the then-common practice of representing plank lines with raised rather than grooved lines - presumably as this would have considerably reduced the cost of making the injection moulding tool.   19. From what you say, it should be possible for the person who gave you the kit to approach DJH for the missing parts - presumably that person DID purchase the kit from DJH, if it's not secondhand. You are implying that DJH sold an incomplete kit. John Isherwood.
  20. Does the law differentiate between scale models and toys - I doubt it! I also doubt that Dapol will feel under any obligation after such a period of time. If the damaged models were mine, I would be dismantling them ASAP - by cutting through the spine with a razor saw if necessary - in order to extract the metal core. If the metal is indeed responsible for the damage - which I strongly suspect it is - it could be replaced by some steel bar and the model components reassembled around it. It does surprise me - no it doesn't - that so many owners are reporting that their models have never been out of the box. Why on earth do they spend their hard-earned cash on such things, and then never even look at them? Are they convinced that they're making a finacial investment? They or their families are in for a shock if that's the case! John Isherwood.
  21. Don't you watch 'Police Interceptors', or any of the other myriad of police 'fly-on-the wall' TV series? In many parts of the UK, the standard response to a police stop is "Me no understandy" or, even more commonly, a blank look in the hope that the offence will be overlooked - it never is !!   23. Why not? It is well known that DJH don't supply parts from their kits; as a matter of policy. Kits comprise a specific number of each part, and an efficient manufacturer will obtain those parts in multiples of the number of parts in a kit. If they then cannibalises kits to supply requests for spares, they end up with numerous kits that are incomplete. DJH sold a complete kit to whoever sold you your incomplete kit; they are not responsible for the deficiency. It's very much a case of buyer beware when buying secondhand kits. John Isherwood.
  24. Give me strength !! Ever since the day when two neanderthals swapped a bone for a rock, there has been something called supply and demand. If you choose not to purchase when supply is good, you pay the price when supply is virtually non-existent. If that is being moral-free, we're better off without morals. Get real, please!
