  2. Problems only 90s kids can understand http://www.pleated-jeans.com/2012/07/04/best-of-the-1990s-problems-meme-24-pics/
  3. noticed earlier that they must have had some paint left over from the 08, the wood around the top of the booking on point/shunt cabin at bescot has had a coat of schenker red too!!
  4. i never took my camera with me last night and i ended up sat in bescot right next to the DB 08 for a while, could have got some nice night time shots of it, on the same job later so will be taking the camera and tripod tonight
  5. first time in the shed for an age today, been having a new patio built so the back garden has been a no-go area until this week, did the one job i've been putting off for a while, wiring the removable section basically i wired the 4 track feeds into one pair of chocolate blocks and fed them to 2 wires of the 8 strand cable i have, i then wired the point motor wires to another 3 of the strands which has left me with 3 spare strands to add maybe lights to the section the other end went to a female flush mount din plug on the removable section, soldered each wire to an individual pin which in turn goes to a male din plug which is attached to the main layout board which i then wired the 2 wires to the track feed situated under the main board, the 3 point motor wires are currently loose but will continue on to the accessory decoder under the board now its just a case of plugging the removable section in and its powered up i did hit a snag that when i wired it up i realised it somehow, even though i checked a few times managed to get the pos and neg wires mixed up so the polatity of the removable section was the opposite to the main layout, an easy fix by simly swapping the 2 wires round where i joined them into the main feed when i came to test the track it kept shorting out so i ended up removing wires from the chocolate block below until i traced the fault to a single wire, no matter what i did i could not get it to work properly, then it twigged, i had wired up the polarity wire on the points to the motor and as i hadn't removed the point motor wires from thr track it was still in reverse polarity, i unsoldered it and hey presto no short, rewired it with the wires swapped over on the track feed and it works perfect tested the track by letting my 33 pull the train of hachette mk1s round which it did without problems for a good 30 mins, amazing what a set of new wheels can do net up i went onto the point motors for the other end of the layout for the entrance to the yard and first set within but here i have hit another snag but i'll start a thread in the dcc questions section to try and find a solution but it involves, point motors, accessory decoders and a reverse loop module not playing ball next major job, in the next 2 weeks hopefully is power to the shed, the new patio has wall lights that need wiring in so the electrician i coming to do those as well as putting power and lighting to the garage and shed, it certainly need some sort of thermastatic heating in there now as it felt very damp in there earlier after a few weeks of not being used
  6. no, i sit in humberstone road, the one at knighton is a freightliner coming from the burton branch
  7. nice pics just had a look at my timesheet for that week to see what i was on, thought i may have been on the 56 which i wasn't. however i had been on that 66 earlier in the day from bringing it into toton and was back on it later the same evening from didcot
  8. indeed, beast has been known to take more photos in a day than i took the whole first 2 years of my first sons life!!
  9. apparently so according to various magazines but not heard anything official
  10. the difference between my cab and yours scott is about 1000ft though so its bound to be cold! 105 was cold on the move earlier, it has blower heating under the seats facing the rear bulkhead so it takes a while to warm the cab, then you get moving and the draughts cool the cab! 087 has a massive blower on the bulkhead behind the driver which is a good idea except it works based on engine/loco/throttle - speed/position, so while stood still it does nowt, flat out it cooks your back (and its noisy!) 66s have a single heater which is quite good even though its a pain to try and adjust on the move as its closer to the "american" side of the cab, again it is a bit noisy though
  11. today was the first 56 i've driven for a month or so, been on 66s on the coal and ballasts mainly and i must admit i have actually enjoyed working the 66s recently especially as i've had a 3 hour layover in leicester every night, on the 66 you can drop the seat right back in the big cab and get a good sleep, or even lay a coat out and get a kip on the floor in the small cab, even get your phone charged with the plug in there, like a home from home!! still enjoy working the classic traction though, i particularly enjoy it when i get a 47, i may have to refresh 37s at some point apparently which i'm looking forward to if it comes off, cant wait to get a play with a 70 too
  12. worked the logs for the first time in ages today, bit late leaving kingmoor so a chance to get a few pics these came in and collected a train of sidetippers the loco for the day, 56105 and a lot of hours later, in warrington
  13. Tell me about it, couple of weeks of nights and im out of the loop... Working a log train for the first time in a month on monday then back to the ballast job the rest of the week
  14. looking on wnxx someone has commented its off to landore at some point soon, the path is in the system wonder what its going there for?
  15. something different today, first day back from a weeks leave and a conducting job on a tamper conducted it to the worksite at greenbank on the cheshire lines, got a few pics, no tripod again but not too bad shots back to the coal tomorrow though
  16. i only moved here in 2005 by then the rail traffic into the works had ceased, there were however a couple of fuel tankers sat in the sidings next to "dunwoody way" but i dont know how they left the works or if they have just moved within the site i can hear stuff from my house, 67s on the ETD mainly or stuff heading towards chester (DRS 37s and 20s on the flasks mainly, even heard the 56 on the logs a few times!)
  17. Bombardier are still in there but everything comes in by road, its all bogies though coming in for overhaul and maintainance, no "trains" any more, i believe the traverser has gone now too, the line linking in from the mainline is still there, only accessable from the up line so its a shunt into the etd and back across to get in however the wall between the mainline and works building has recently been pulled down towards the works and the rubble left on the track The 1960 style offices that are off west street (by the old main entrance) are used by bentley now, morrisons is on the old paint shop near flag lane and there is a leisure complex the other side of the bridge at the back of what i believe are the old drawing offices on edleston road which are long gone but the bricked up doorway is still in the wall "The dell" is still clearly visible as you enter the leisure complex, basically a cutting where the old works line used to go, they stored a load o class 40s in there back in the 80s Next time i go into town i'll get some pics if anyone is interested
  18. what amazes me is how many different types of "secondary" locos the GWR had! to me the gwr i know from preserved railways is all sparkling clean panniers, prairies and 14XXs etc but there are so many variations on a theme in these photos and some fantastical looking contraptions!!
