  1. Forgot to put this up on Monday, did the logs to chirk with 60087 Doncaster later with 60085 from Toton
  2. The Phoenix paint arrived today, they didn't look too much different to what I'd put on already until I brushed some on, the orange is a far closer match to the Bachmann rendition than the colour I originally did it with but the yellow is near as dammit the same as humbrol 99 I've put some gloss varnish over it in readiness for applying the numbers which also arrived today from railtec, need to source some new roof horns too Also added a modelu 'little willy' driver looking back at his train The only other thing I can't get to work is the lights, I got the loco cheap 2nd hand so they may not be working anyway but the cab lights are Pleased with it so far, should look good once the numbers and logos are also added
  3. The LEDs from Amazon arrived today so I now have them right round the edge of the whole shed, still got a reel left that I'm going to fit below baseboard level at some point One thing I am pleased about today was I managed to repair my broken lenz 100 handset, been having nothing but trouble with it for years, the cable has been very temperamental and I worked out it was the din plug so as I had nothing to lose I decided to cut it off and have a go at using a phone cable instead that I got from a charity shop about 4 years ago for 50p, after getting some advice on here a few months back about what wires to solder to where I gave it a go and hey presto a fully working spare handset!!
  4. One thing I've discovered today, they don't bounce! I was trying to change the coupling for a wider one when it took a tumble into the floor! Luckily it's more cosmetic than anything, the bogie needs re-soldering and clipping back in place and the drive shaft putting back in but the impact has destroyed a couple of the buffers and steps, the buffers broke into 3 parts and scattered far and wide so are not reuaseble unfortunately I also had an issue with my DRS one where the coupling got locked to the left after running round with a rake of coal fish wagons without issue and wouldn't re centre, took it apart, carefully and away from the layout edge this time, and discovered a tiny rogue screw jammed in the coupling mechanism, once removed it works ok again
  5. We are trialling an iPad app in work for 'real time' train running info, the data is inputted into the app prior to departure and it brings up the train details and various timing points en route, the pad is then housed in sight in a dedicated holder in the cab When you complete your leg of the journey you then input the reason why you were late at the various points where you have picked up as being behind time, quite a clever piece of kit really, until it throws a wobbler! As you can see below it claimed I was some 9 million minutes late departing chirk (even though I hadn't left and was stationary in the yard at the time) which equated to 18.7 years late! I tried to log out but when I logged back in with the train info it thought I was continuing my journey from my last log out point and kept me 9 million minutes late so the only way to cure it was to "complete the journey" while still in chirk and send the data off complete with reason code and notes before I could restart the journey correctly See the image below and my explanation for being 18 years late departing The rest of the 'note' says "called doc brown for guidance but no help" Hope it gives someone in the office a laugh tomorrow, either that or I'll get the sack!
  6. I've just been trawling google for a picture of 56303 hauling a Kirow crane but to no avail
  7. D'oh, not quick enough, anyhoo here is a crane.... Let's stick with one off paint job (The spooky thing is I was going to also suggest a crane for the next pic before deciding on a one off paint job)
  8. Caledonian sleeper in Carlisle with 66720 up front With that in mind, next pic, a one off paint job
  9. Box worked gates......... I think Barmouth were worked from the signal box All since long gone of course If it's allowed then the next picture will have a railway company road vehicle somewhere
  10. the led's are fed from a maplin supply that came with the circular plinth lights that are also on the ceiling ive ordered 2 more reels of LEDs from amazon that i'll add later in the week if i get a chance
  11. BR sector from the midlands 20s in bescot next up a fastline loco
  12. and the rest of the wall done, also added a course of raised bricks along the base of the platform too, 3 panels to finish though the other thing i bought from L-cut was some canopy supports, i replaced the plasticard supports with them and they look so much better not bad for £1.50 worth of supports! inspired by Marcus 37s LED lighting in his attic i added a strip of lights around the perimeter of the roof, i bought the light strip from the macclesfield show a couple of months back from a trader who unfortunately i didnt make a note who it was as i'd like to get another length of them to go round the other side of the shed, the 5 meter strip was only £5!! makes a nice difference above the layout
  13. rubbed down the paint and redid it with white primer and tried humbrol 99 and railcolour orange quite a good match on the yellow but i think i'll try the proper colas orange when it arrives also added handrails to the end and patch painted the headcode boxes
  14. I use the term avoiding line in the loose sense, as in I personally avoided Westbury! i wouldn't say he misled me as he knew where we were, as did i track layout wise but when I come to relay the info on here i just put what sounds about right, I don't take notes for my pics And yes east depot not yard for Bristol
  15. 67 again last night, not quite as picturesque as maiden newton, this time it was Wolverhampton, Rowley Regis and rugeley Wolves Rugeley Rowley Tyseley Moor st And back to derby
  16. I'm assuming that it's an electric pencil sharpener that's charging?
  17. A quick hour in the shed earlier, bit more of the wall done Put a column on one edge of the wall panel It overhangs the end by 1/2 of its width So when placed back in place and held in by the magnetic tape covers the join The little card pieces in front of the columns ensure the wall stays in line, they will be disguised when I add scenic And a double width column to go round the curved part of the wall Looking quite good now Hopefully get a bit more done tomorrow afternoon
  18. Cheers for that, i couldn't find those when I looked! As it happens I found the humbrol I used for the yellow in the 70 and have brush painted it on the 37 earlier but I dropped a ball by using grey primer which is showing through after the first coat, I think I'll have a go at getting it back off with a little bit of thinners and redo with the proper Phoenix paints
  19. done anyone do tinlets of colas rail orange and yellow paint, cant see anything listed on phoenix or railmatch sites? if not which humbrol colour is the closest to them, when i did my class 70 i just used humbrol paint (iirc) but i cant remember which numbers i used, the orange i used is a bit too bright but the yellow is pretty close to Bachmann's colour rendition, im looking to patch paint a modified 37421, just the grille area both ends
  20. thats the through siding at LNWR, 5mph track and used all day every day by stuff coming into and out of the carriage sidings, probably 20+ units a day over it, 150s, 158, 350, voyager, 67s and wag, test trains etc
  21. We haven't had any stupidity for a while..... https://twitter.com/laughingcow4/status/862713873958416385
  22. thanks for that post MRDBLUE i was puzzling how to fit the bass reflex i got with my 68 chip, i think i'll retire to the shed in a min and have a go at that (its currenly installed with the standard speaker)
  23. couple of days of pics 73s round cheshire biomass near northwich chester and off at warrington and down to westbury the day after for 67s to weymouth 159 in westbury 66s and away to weymouth, stopped at mayden newton to let a unit pass into weymouth back to maiden newton to let another unit pass before we could get the token to veovil pen mill chinnok station building, listed as its a fine example of brunel rural station architecture unit arriving in the bridgehole to the left used to be the branch to bridport and west bay, according to the info plaque on the station there used to be a gravity siding for trains coming in from the branch, the train would come in, propel into the siding, detatch the loco and move out of the way before the coaches were left to drop back by gravity into the platform under control of the guard before the loco reattached to the outbound train another helicopter into bristol east yard back to westbury but this time onto a chord avoiding the station from the trowbridge direction and out onto the avoider to change ends the white horse and that was that
