  1. Started something different this evening, excuse the bed sheet 'workbench' but I decided to disassemble an mpv to see about converting it into the single car network rail s+c recording unit The unit in pieces, one part is powered and the other is a dummy unit with just lights fed from the motorised unit The inner and outer ends have different pick up and lighting arrangements so I needed to adapt them slightly but nothing too major Basically remove the powered coupling leaving the wires attached to the look for now The 4 black wires from the loom will attach to the wires from the dummy car cab lighting (that cab of course will be at the opposite end of the powered chassis!) Reattached the bogie and tackled the next issue..... The massive decoder housing and what to do with it! On the real thing the floor is practically flat so the decoder sitting up as designed would look very wrong if I had to build a cabinet for it to go in, I removed the bracket from the chassis and basically folded the pcb out of the way, also removed the underfloor motor housing moulding which revealed a load of room for me to basically bin the whole pcb and hardware an 8 pin wired decoder in place instead, luckily all the lighting wires feed down that way too There will still be a slight step up where the motor sits proud of the floor but once I build the frame over the centre part it shouldn't be too noticeable, I'll carefully cut out the motor shape from the existing removable module floor and build it up with a plasticard frame Reuse some of the genny modules and make up some more and it will start to come together nicely Really should get some of my other projects finished first though!!
  2. nice to see it in its current condition, only a few years back it was looking sorry for itself awaiting its fate, passed it hundreds of times with work so should try and get in for a look if im ever lodging down there out of interest though isnt shrewsbury severn bridge the largest gwr box the country?
  3. Although there isn't much smiling going in in the picture I'm so happy with myself to actually do what I did this afternoon, held a spider, been scared of them all my life (well since I was 3, can pin point the moment) There is a travelling zoo that visits the holiday camp i DJ at and last week my wife held the tarantula having also been scared of them all her life so I thought well if she can do it then so can I! Took me a lot of courage to finally do it, held a shed skin first to break me in then braced myself for the real thing which sat on my hand for a couple of minutes
  4. personally im a bit bored with the next number element of the game now, thing is people are lining up a suitable photo numbers in advance, the only fun is being the first to get their pre chosen picture up first! much more fun when something completly random/obscure came up
  5. yeah, spotted that on flickr earlier, interesting combo for sure coming into my last week off now, back in friday night with a UTU to start off with, might try and get a road learning day in around oxford if i can
  6. Just spotted this picture, one thing that I know about that loco on that particualr day is there was one of those modelu "big jim" 3D print figures in the driving seat, extra points for realism!
  7. one week of my holiday gone and HAD to go in for the day (for a bit of peace and quiet!) assessing someone on a route, crewe to derby via stafford, rugeley, nuneaton and leicester, should have gone via walsall but due to a schedule clash we had to go direct up the wcml at rugeley or block the slows for 40 mins while the passenger sat in the platform basford hall firing up the locos and into derby and back to my holiday!

  18. Sorry to come back to this post but for clarification the feather will have been off as the points onto the single track at navigation road are broken and are clipped and scotched therefore anything heading towards Stockport uses the crossover just beyond the platform instead, been like that for a good 8-12 months now!
  19. Inverness TMD Anybody notice we've missed out 'G'? So Let's go for that a loco name beginning with G
